I have loved the Brides of Beadwell series. Ms. Portman has done a great job of linking the books in the series without making them alike. Juliana’s fear of her father following her and taking her back home is real. She is right to hide from him. Juliana seems to have a photographic memory in being able to recall letters, books and items she has seen. Juliana has lived a horrific life with an abused father after being left by her mother at a young age.

Along comes Michael, the illegitimate son of the Marquess of Rosevear, on his way to London summoned by his father to marry so as to bring funds into the family coffers. Juliana, basically, hitches a ride from Michael. All Michael wants is to have the deed to Rose Hall, the estate where he has been living while he heals following the war. Michael has greatly improved the estate and the living of the village dependent on the estate. He realizes what is expected of him and shares his father’s expectations with his new traveling companion, Juliana.

Their journey begins with a lack of trust as the first words spoken by Juliana are a lie. Michael allows her to travel with him and his loyal dog, Gelert, anyway. Their beginning is somewhat stilted but appropriate with each of them being cautious not completely trusting the other. It definitely takes longer to get to London than originally expected allowing them a few days to get to know each other. Juliana really knows nothing of the world, nor what to expect from Michael and his servant.

Juliana and Michael’s seems to happen quickly with Juliana believing she will never marry. When Michael leaves her at her solicitor, he battles with himself wondering if he is doing the right thing. What follows is a bit of self-discovery with help from his step-mother.

This is a great book and can be read as a stand alone, but I found it enjoyable to be read in sequence. Both Julaina and Michael are strong characters and extremely likeable.

I really hate seeing this series end because I have loved every book. It is difficult to choose but I think that this is my favorite. I loved both characters and their chemistry was incredible. I cannot wait to see what Sara Portman does next and, whatever it is, I will be first in line to buy it.

Julianna must get away, time is running out, she must get to London, but how? She is hiding at a posting house, watching carriages pull in, and out, trying to decide on who looks the safest.
Michael Rosevear, is tired, in pain from being cooped up in his father's carriage, as nice as it is, his war wound is only getting worse from being cramped inside. He, and the man who saved his life, now his coach man, have stopped at this very Inn, to stretch his leg. From the back, Julianna believes that he is an older man, stopped over, with a cane, she has her help!
This begins a great story, of her unknown fear, however, Michael has seen enough to know it, when he sees it. Yet his friend, Albert, believes the young Miss, could be trying to compromise him. Thus, begins a truly good story of ups, downs, happy, then tears. I loved this story, loved both main characters, absolutely loved the dog! Gelert the brave! This is now my 17 out of 20 for the year!
I highly recommend Today! Thanks! Enjoy!

Overall I found "The Chase" to be interesting. Unique plot.

I have loved all of Sara Portman’s series “Brides of Beadwell” and from the first chapter, I found myself reflecting on the previous books, trying to pick on the subtle links to the characters in “The Chase”. Juliana Crawford is trying to escape her abusive father and convinces Michael Rosevear, to help her reach London. Michael is the illegitimate son of the Marquess of Rosevear, who has summoned him to London, to fulfil his duty to the family. However, the journey is destined to throw the couple together but not in the way either could imagine.
What sets this series apart from many is the slow unravelling of each character and their many complexities. Both characters are multifaceted and their insecurities are explored very subtly. It was also interesting to see the links between the earlier two novels which was well integrated without leaving the reader uncertain as to the characters and their connections.
I finished this book, hoping that another link to the story can be made or another series of similar calibre soon hits the shelves.

Juliana Crawford ran from her abusive father. She needed to get her inheritance so she could live independent. but she needed a ride to London. Michael Rosevear was sent to Rose Hall by his father. His father had sent for him, he wanted Michael to marry, even though he was a bastard.
The descriptions were very good and helped you feel part of the story. The characters, at least some of them, were warm, kind and Caring. She approached Michael for a ride at an inn. The plot has so many strings and the author has taken them all and made it into a well written tale. It is even paced, smooth and very hard to put down. I loved this book the two main characters were so devoted to each other, Michael wanted to protect her and she wanted him to have his dream.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

There were things I liked and disliked about this book. I liked that the h took control,of her life and tried to change her future. There was chemistry and passion between the h and H, which was another plus in the story. What I disliked was Michael's, the H, early complacency in the romance. Although he was worried about the h when they got to London and went their separate ways, I would have liked to see him be more protective of her and look out for her more. Also, I felt like they went from acquaintances to more way too quickly. The jump for me was not believable. This read was not bad, but it was not a page turner for me either.

Ms. Portman is one of my favorite new authors. This was as good as all three of her novels. Can't say which I liked best , because they were all wonderful. Loved all the characters! Great story and great reading.
