Bruno McKendrick knows that he can win the attention of any woman he pleases. The well-to-do son of a Scottish-born father and Italian mother, Bruno is one of the most eligible bachelors in Australian high-society. But on this night, finding love is the last thing on his mind as he makes his way through the usual crowd of movers, shakers, and hob-nobbers . . . until he lays eyes on an incomparable beauty whose face Bruno is sure he’s seen before. Her name is Isabelle Martin—and she says she’s not who Bruno thinks she is. Still, he’s determined to prove that Isabelle is the living image of someone his late private-investigator father spent his life trying to find. Solving this twenty-year-old mystery is one challenge; the burning attraction between Bruno and Isabelle is another. As he closes in on the case and discovers a dark truth from Isabelle’s past, Bruno risks tearing her whole world apart . . . unless she will allow him to help pick up the pieces.
This was a pretty decent read. It flowed easily and I read it pretty quickly. I liked both main characters and the plot. I recommend.

Just couldn't do it. The biggest turn off was the entire first chapters was all internal dialogue...no conversation, no introduction of another character, just paragraph after paragraph of internal dialogue.

2.5 Stars. This book was okay. A little annoying how often we were told that the main characters are just super gorgeous and super smart. I got it already! So just kinda skimmed through. Story still was interesting. Thank you netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent romance and mystery...This is a wonderful book that kept me captivated and guessing until the end of the book. When Isabelle is introduced to Bruno, a sophisticated man, she didn’t realize that everything that she believed about her life would be turned on its head. At first, Isabelle dismisses that she could be related to Helena, the woman that Bruno’s father searched for. Her parents’ reactions to her questions have her flying with Bruno to the outback to find answers. What they find there at the Hartmann ranch there is a family with dark secrets about the past. I enjoyed unraveling the mystery of Helena and Isabelle’s background. There is also a sweet romance built between Bruno and Isabelle. . I received an ARC from Net Gallery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I highly recommend this book. It is well written and set in the beauty of the Australian outback.

I decided to give ‘The Road Home’ by Margaret Way a try, as she was a new Australian Romance author to me. I didn’t realise until I started reading that she has written a prolific number of books under the Mills and Boon/Harlequin Romance banner.
Successful, rich businessman Bruno McKendrick, suddenly comes face to face with someone who he recognises as being imprinted in his memory. It seems the young woman in question Isabelle Martin, is the spitting image of a woman in a photograph, whose disappearance Bruno’s father was investigating at the time of his death from a hit and run accident. Bruno convinces Isabelle to question her identity and together they unravel a twenty year old mystery.

While I found this an extremely easy read, I’m not a big fan of this type of romance. It did hold my attention while I read it on a lazy afternoon but for me it was ‘too sweet’ and I also found it was all conversation....just a bit too busy for me.
The storyline itself was enjoyable, romance, mystery and family secrets if a little unrealistic at times but I enjoy suspending belief sometimes. A light read that I’m sure will appeal to many readers who like that type of romance/book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for a copy to read and review.

The disappearance of Helena Hartman from the Hartman outback station is a case that haunted Bruno McKendrick's father until he died.  Twenty years later Bruno walks into a party to find a woman who has an uncanny resemblance to the missing woman playing the cello as a part of the musical ensemble entertaining the party goers. Isabelle Martin's life is never going to be the same again as Bruno makes her question everything she's believed about herself.

Isabelle Martin as it turns out is English, daughter of scientists who immigrated to Australia with her as a young woman.  Her mother definitely has secrets to hide but there's no getting around the fact that unless she was switched at birth in the hospital she is her parent's daughter.
Bruno is determined to find answers and persuades the Hartmann's to invite him and Isabelle to their Australian outback station.  Isabelle is an identical twin (twenty years younger) to Helena. Her arrival with Bruno sets the brooding station agog as long hidden secrets are dragged into the open.   Relationships are complicated but none more complicated and convoluted than the Hartmann's.  Someone definitely helped Helena get away so long ago. Who has the most to hide.
This story is not a typical outback romance from the author. The suspense is really well developed. Each answer that Bruno and Isabelle find leads to more questions until they expose a long hidden conspiracy and cover up for multiple murders.  Is Isabelle Helena's daughter? then how did she come to with the people she's believed to be her parents all her life.
This is an excellent romantic suspense which kept me turning pages well into the night.

I am a long time fan of Margaret Way's. One of the things I love best about her books is the ability to sneak in some seriously snarky, witty character observations. You have to be on the look out for them, since they are often subtle.

Bruno is a jaded character and Isabelle is full of awe and wonder at most things. Bruno suspects she is a missing heiress, presumed to be dead and is determined to solve this mystery. I thought this one dragged a bit, and lacked chemistry between the H and the h. Decent read though.
