My 6 year old is obsessed with his wiggly teeth. There aren't a lot of books about losing teeth and this book has a wild west twist.

The Tooth That's on the Loose is a somewhat comical, goofy story about TB Wiggly, a tooth on the loose, wanted by the authorities. Sheriff Tex tells the reader all about Wiggly, and what to do if they catch him. Turning him over to the authorities brings a reward!

The illustrations were cute. Paired with short, simple sentences, this western tale turns a childhood inevitability into an adventure. My cubs enjoyed the reading, though it applied to none of us anymore. Still, it's a great teaching tool, perfect for home reading, or part of a classroom.

***Many thanks to Netgalley and Xist Publishing for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This was a really enjoyable read. I love the Western take on having a loose tooth. Sheriff Tex tells us the story of a wanted tooth, T.B. Wiggly. He’s wanted because he’s going to leave a big ol’ hole in your mouth but there’s a reward for handing him over to the authorities.

As a kid most of my baby teeth refused to come out by themselves so I was trotted off to the dentist so they could treat me. My baby teeth were removed late so I would’ve been too old for this book by the time my teeth got their act together but for those whose teeth understand the concept of a timetable, this would be a great read to quell any anxieties. With quirky, fun illustrations this would be a good book for home, school and the dentist’s office.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley (thank you so much to NetGalley and Xist Publishing for the opportunity) in exchange for honest feedback.

If you can read this book without laughing out loud, then you must be missing something in the book! The story is just so cute and funny, and the illustrations only add to the fun!

This was just too cute. T.B. Wiggly (Tooth to his friends) is a wanted man. He’s guilty of leaving a hole in your mouth that you can drive cattle through. The good sheriff needs your help to catch the critter. But we have to make sure that he gets handed over to the Tooth Fairy if we want to capture the reward. This was just a fun romp. The sheriff of a western town needs help tracking down a tooth. I think this is a must read for anyone who still has some baby teeth.

Chris Robertson takes the ordinary activity of losing a tooth and turns it into a Wild West event. Sheriff Tex, a local sheriff of a small western town, needs to round up T. B. Wiggly. There are wanted posters scattered around town and he explains to the children why he is wanted and where he can be found. What fun to see everyone chasing T.B. Wiggly around and find out about the reward at the end.

The illustrations are cute and are sure to make children smile and laugh as this book is read. The sentences are short and match the illustrations with cowboy sayings and actions. This would be a wonderful book to have in an early elementary school classroom, school library as well as family libraries. Kids will love this book and the reader will too, especially if they get into the fun and try to read it as an old western sheriff.

I can see this book being a favourite for any little cowboy fans in particular! This fun book deals with the milestone of losing your first ever tooth by way of a western - its an easy to read story with some good images to take the scary edge away that some children feel. Four stars from me.

Netgalley ARC Review --For all of the younger readers suffering from the common problem of lost teeth - especially those that enjoy Wild West or cowboy stories. Robertson brings us his unique perspective on this interesting time in a child's development. This cute story will leave children entertained and delighted by the pictures but wanting to know...what else?

It has a funny approach to the concept of losing a tooth but quite difficult to get the humor at first read

With an Old West sheriff narrating, we get an allegory of a tooth that needs pulling. The tooth in question not only wears a cowboy hat, gloves, a gunbelt, and boots, it’s sporting a mustache and bushy eyebrows. That cannot be at all pleasant inside a mouth.
Would have been a tighter story if the sheriff and the tooth fairy were the same person.
That is the strangest-drawn sun I’ve laid tired eyes on in a month of Sundays. . . wow, that lingo is catching!

Cute, fun and funny . This book has it all...except for the tooth. It's missing...or is it?!

Howdy pardner. Let's catch that varmint tooth on the loose. This gimmicky picture book may lighten the mood and help children through the process of losing baby teeth. It's cute and the cowboy/western lingo that fills each page does work. Four stars for mission accomplished--although some parents may not want to teach children about the tooth fairy and not all children live with a "ma and pa" to present their lost teeth to.

This book is supposed to be a playful take on one of the much anticipated childhood experiences of losing a tooth, but in short I just did not find anything enjoyable in this book at all. The language was very hard to get my head round as an adult, and I'm sure children would find it similarly odd. With all the 'rootin' tootin'' cowboy talk it wasn't something a child can really relate to, the language was hard to make sense of, and the narrative was so far away from what children can come to expect from losing a tooth that it doesn't really strike a chord with anyone. I can see that it's supposed to be fun, but for me it just did nothing.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read this ARC and give an honest review.

My 5 year old daughter just lost her first tooth, so I thought this would be a perfect choice to read to her. I was right! This fun picture book has an Old West theme and I couldn't love it more. It lends itself to reading it with the accent that is used in every Western film and my daughter was so excited to see them chase that loose tooth all over.

I have a feeling this is going to be a book that is in heavy rotation at my house.

One of my sons is currently going through a wobbly teeth phase so this book is ideally pitched at our family.
As a bed-time read this was great. Both my sons with wobbly and non-wobbly teeth alike enjoyed this book, aged 6 and 4.
My one criticism would be some of the difficult words used - ornery, bicuspidy - in particular. I wouldn't expect words like this included for the target age group.
However, I'm sure they'd love to read this again and equally a follow-up if there is one. I'd certainly pick up this author again.
Thank you very much.

I will admit that I had only read a few children’s books that dealt with the theme of children losing their baby teeth (mainly Marc Brown’s “Arthur’s Tooth”). So, when NetGalley offered a children’s book called “The Tooth that’s on the Loose!” by Chris Robertson that has a creative take on children losing their baby teeth, I knew that I had to get this book as soon as possible!

Who is that toothy and wiggly varmint who is running around town, causing mayhem wherever he goes? Tooth Be Wiggly (T.B. Wiggly, for short) that’s who! This outlaw goes around leaving holes in people’s mouths (in other words, taking people’s teeth and causing a hole in their mouths where the teeth used to be) and Sheriff Tex is trying to recruit some kids to help him bring down this outlaw!

Can the kids bring down T.B. Wiggly?

Read this book to find out!

I must admit that I was quite impressed with this creative and odd little book! Chris Robertson has done a great job at making a dilemma that kids would have, which is losing their baby teeth at a young age and turn that dilemma into an outlaw villain named T.B. Wiggly, which made this book truly creative and interesting to read! I also liked the fact that Sheriff Tex was the one narrating the story and telling the audience who T.B. Wiggly is and why he has to be stopped as it allows us to explore the world through the characters’ point of view. I really like the way that Chris Robertson is able to incorporate so much humor in this book as I cannot help but laugh at the idea about a living tooth going around causing mayhem wherever he goes! Chris Robertson’s artwork is hilarious and exaggerated to look at, especially of the image of T.B. Wiggly himself as he is a tooth that has a large black mustache and tiny beady eyes that portrays his rugged personality. I also loved the mischievous looks that T.B. Wiggly gives to the audience as it helps lets the audience know that T.B. Wiggly is up to no good!

The reason why I took off half a point from the rating was because I felt that more could have been done with T. B. Wiggly himself as he felt like a one-sided villain of the story whose only purpose of being in this story is to be the generic bad guy who steals people’s teeth. While I understand that T.B. Wiggly is representing the dilemma that young children go through, which is losing their baby teeth, I sort of wished that there was more development to his character besides being the bad guy that would make him stand out more in the story.

Overall, “The Tooth that’s on the Loose!” is a truly creative story for children who are going through losing their baby teeth and want to read a story that tackles this issue in a humorous and creative way! I would recommend this book to children ages four and up since there is nothing inappropriate in this book.

I love this book. It's short and sweet. It made me laugh and would be a good book for a child that is about to lose their teeth or have lost some teeth. I read this book on Netgalley.

Thank you to NetGalley, Xist Publishing and Chris Robertson for providing this ebook in return for a fair review.

The Tooth That’s on the Loose! is the story of the wild West outlaw T.B. Wiggly as told by Sheriff Tex. This book is absolutely adorable. It is an original take on a childhood rite of passage. The illustrations are amazing. The writing is silly.

I love, love, LOVE this book! Recommended for young children and very early readers.

This fun book will delight kids on the verge of that big milestone in their life... loosing a tooth. This is the perfect book to cuddle-up and read to them to take the scariness out of the whole experience.

Chris Robertson takes the occasion and wraps it in a western spin making it an exciting and yes even an enjoyable event. A local sheriff of a small western town rounds up T. B. Wiggly, whose face hangs on wanted posters scattered everywhere, and turns him over to the proper authorities to rid the pest from his jurisdiction permanently.

The illustrations are truly hilarious and are sure to generate smiles and giggles as the text is shared together. The sentences are short and peppered with cowboy quips that make the book such a delight to read. This would be a wonderful book to have in an early elementary school classroom or library too. Kids will love the whole vibe of the book... 'sure as shooting'! I highly, highly recommend it.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Haha, I am definitely happy I clicked on request when I spotted this book over on Netgalley. This was such a fun read, and I have to give bonus points for making something that happens to all of us, namely having a loose tooth, into a cowboy/western story that is sure to delight kids all over the world.

The story is about a wild tooth known as T.B. Wiggly! Yep, the dangerous villain who will be leaving a hole in your mouth! Oh noes! You can find him at any place in your mouth. He might be a tooth in the back or in the front, or just somewhere in between. We see several scenes taking place in the Wild West, from the evil tooth galloping off in the sunset, to him in jail (where he belongs!).

I loved the expressions on the faces of the kids. They just fitted so well with the story. :P

The ending was really fun, bringing in the Tooth Fairy and talking about rewards. I did think it was funny that the kid woke up in full clothes instead of his pyjamas, I guess he was so excited he transformed into his Wild West clothes.

That last page was brilliant. Ah yes, tell kids in a subtle way that they may see T.B. Wiggly again. Many times actually, but shhh. :P

Only one little thing, there are some difficult words used. I highly doubt that a kid at that age (when one starts losing their teeth) would know what the word means, let alone be able to pronounce it. Even I had to look up words (since I had no clue what bicuspid or epiglottis were), but then again, that is because English isn't my first language. :)

The art is also pretty great. I do love the style + it was great that most pages also had backgrounds. Yes, this sounds like a weird thing to be happy about, but I have read many picture books were the illustrator/author didn't care to add backgrounds.
One thing that I didn't entirely like was the circle of colour that was found over many pictures. It just seemed a bit silly (and lazy).

But all in all, I did quite enjoy this one, and I would recommend it to everyone.
