A cute book but could have done without that part about a cat eating too much and getting fat. Otherwise, good photos and very informative for toddlers.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Grow Stronger Readers with Discover Reading Leveled Titles (4 stars)

I teach reading at the elementary school level and very much enjoy doing so. Working with kindergarten and first-grade students of varying strengths I am always on the lookout for good reads to recommend for at home. While not without a few flaws, I found Discover Cats to be a good way to check out the imprint, and see if they would be digital reads worth a recommendation.

Most of my little readers love non-fiction and learning about animals. I work with mostly higher level readers so I don't think this Level 2 title would be challenging enough for my particular group but for a strong kindergartner or lower level first-grader I think it would be a good option.

I was impressed with the high-quality photos and simple typeface but found a couple of the word choices a bit odd. Potentially too challenging? Maybe, but not to the point I think it's a book to skip.

The text was simple, with clear and non-cluttered pictures. My almost-5yo enjoyed looking at the pictures as I read the text out. (If we weren't in the car, I wouldn't have been the one doing the reading.) The end was a little abrupt, which was my biggest issue with the content.

It didn't work well as an ebook, because too often the text was on a different page from the accompanying picture, resulting in a lot of flicking back and forth to read and say "And what is... THIS cat looking at?"

This is a cute, non-fiction early reader book. The pictures are large and simple, not a lot of extra unless it aids in the text. Simple facts are stated in simple language. A good book for early readers, especially those who love animals. It is nice to see non-fiction books in this range. A good addition to school, family and class libraries.

Discover Cats
Level 2 Reader
by Katrina Streza
This is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary.
I loved this easy reader book. The pictures of the cats and kittens are adorable and close up. It is easy to see what they are doing and there is just the kitten or cat with little to no other objects other that what is being discussed. No extra clutter. The words and sentences do not talk down to the reader. Boy or girl, man or woman, what kind of person doesn't want to see kittens playing? Am I right? Great little book to start building confidence.

Filled with adorable pictures of various breeds of cats and kittens, any child would love this book, especially if they love cats or animals in general. Very easy to read and the pictures that accompany the wording are simple but coordinating..

Princess Fuzzypants here:
I like any cat book and I especially like children's books that introduce them to the wonders that are us: felines.
This is a charming book for the young reader with easy sentences and adorable pictures of kitties. I mean kitties! Adorable is our middle name.
It might make a sweet gift for the young reader on your list or any young human who loves us soft and fuzzy purr machines.
I give it five purrs and two paws up

Bold text for easier reading. Beautiful pictures of cats

Photos of different types of cats—including the skeletal hairless ones that look like the feline version of a Chihuahua—are augmented by small sentences. Other than some factoids, like eye color and how cats don’t like to be alone, that’s it.
The first cat looks quite surprised.
Seems like something small kids would like, as in preschool age.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5

Colorful photographs of a variety of cat breeds (not identified) fill the pages of this simple, beginning reader. Very short sentences fill a page, opposite a photograph. More like a picture book. A few interesting cat facts can be found here but we'll pass on this one.

This is a great early-reader with nice clear pictures and easy-to-read text. As a cat-lover myself, I thought the pictures were adorable! With lots of simple adjectives, this is a great way to introduce to little ones some ways to describe something they may be familiar with, such as a family cat, in order to gradually improve they vocabulary.

Discover Cats is aimed at an Early Reader level for children who really love cats and kittens. It is laid out really well with a main photographic image and then a fact for them to read. It is nice, clean and bright with easy to read and manageable sentences - 4 stars
