The spider Webb charmer by Lawrence R Deering.
Michael, suffers from night terrors in which he sees glimpses of the future. He is a self-professed smart ass with a chip on his shoulder. Michelle has "intuitions" and is more comfortable around animals than most people. They try to balance the demands of building a new business, and their lives as a married couple, with the constant threat of violence that comes with their line of work.
Really enjoyed this book. I liked Michelle and Michael from the start. I do hope there is more to come. 5*.

I received an advance copy of this novel through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

My first impression of this book is that the author uses a different take on narration. It's not from your typical character's first and third point of view. It read a bit like a script, falling flat in the emotion department even though the attempt was there. It just didn't seem realistic and came off as a bit forced. I didn't become attached to any of the characters and some of the more emotional portions of the book came off as a bit cheesy. That being said, I get what the author was trying to do and how he was trying to portray Michael with his quirks and humour and with the rest of the characters. I know it all sounds like a bad thing, but I found it somewhat refreshing. I liked it.
I also enjoyed how there were sooooooo many, I repeat, sooooo many cases that were being worked on at the same time as the serial killer case. The reader had an opportunity to get to know a bit about each of the characters working at the agency and how they fit into the overall picture. It was cool to see all of the puzzle pieces come together. I did feel like the most important case, the serial killer case, was a bit drawn out; a few of the killings could have been skipped over and you'd still have the same effect.
One other thing that I noticed were some of the spelling mistakes through the novel. I had a chuckle when Michael was in a Russian vodka bar eating baby Canadian "muscles." There were a few errors to the same effect.
It was a good, quick read. It was different and I think that's why I enjoyed it. I'd read a sequel if the author ever decided to write one.

4.5-This was a book that had me wondering from the start. There were some twists and turns found throughout this book that had be so shocked and surprised that I loved it. When I read a book like this I hate when things are so easy to figure out or guess at, and this wasn't one of them. The elements in this book that made it so intriguing to me were the abilities that the characters had. This added another neat development for the story line. Thank you for allowing me to read this and write about it.

This book is a really good twist on serial killer crime, it certainly had a few twists and turns that kept the book interesting.
Michael and Michelle Crawford are a married couple that run their own detective agency, and they have several cases on the go. .Most of their time spent trying to discover and apprehend a killer know as "The Mathematician" who inscribes insightful "equations" unto the bodies of his victims. As the body count mounts the FBI calls them in to help, and now the serial killer has a fixation on Michelle.
As well as that Michael is trying to track down his blood parents or gave him up for adoption when he was young.
Even though there are several different story lines interwind through the book it is written really well and it is easy to follow.
I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for more Lawrence R Deering books.

A good premise poorly executed. The book lacked emotion, a believable storyline and was way to linear to hold my interest. A little more character development and weaving their backstory into the plot line would have made a more interesting book. Not recommended.

DNF - the storyline and characters just didn't resonate enough for me to continue reading

I liked the fact that the book had many cases being worked on at the same time, like any agency would. And they did not keep the flow away from the main story. The pace of the story was good, and I enjoyed reading the book.

Michael and Michelle Crawford could best be described as an entrepreneurial and adventurous couple who run their own detective agency. Work is fast and furious with most of their time spent trying to discover and apprehend a killer know as "The Mathematician" who inscribes insightful "equations" unto the bodies of his victims. As the body count mounts the FBI is contacted to assist especially when it becomes clear that the serial killer has acquired an unwarranted interest in Michelle Crawford. In addition to managing the busy day to day workload of the agency, and chasing The Mathematician, Michael is also eager to discover the whereabouts of his birth parents who abandoned him to adoptive parents at a young age.

This book is best described as a novel with "cool temperament" told in a rather brassy and mocking writing style. It failed to have any impression on me, I found all the characters devoid of any emotion (which may have well been the author's intention) and after only a few chapters I was hoping that The Mathematician would be successful in his attempts to wipe out the Crawfords and rid me of the need to read any further! Many thanks to netgalley for a gratis copy in exchange for and honest and truthful review and that is what I have written.

Michael Crawford and Michelle Crawford have a "gift". Michael dreams about events happening to others and Michelle has intuitions. Together they make up the Crawford detective agency and are consultants to the FBI. When a serial killer who leaves strange equations on dead bodies targets Michelle they all team up to try and bait and catch the killer. Inter-weaved into this plot are the many other mysteries that the pair solve along with their associates. Lots of suspense, and at times very humorous the novel is a fun and quick read.

In Native America the dream catcher is a renowned symbol. It is believed that the dream catcher also known as the Spider Web Charm, goes back to the Anishinabe that are known as the Chippewa (Ojibwe) tribe in America whereas this symbol’s literal translation is “dream snare”.

Michael Crawford is known as the Spider Web Charmer because suffers nightly from sometimes horrible night-terror dreams in which he sees brief looks into the future .. mostly concerning his cases as a Private Detective who sometimes is asked to join the FBI in some of the hardest cases to solve.

His partner and wife, Michelle, is a great match for Michael. She not only understands Michael, she also has what she calls intuitions. Much to Michael's chagrin, she can sometimes read his mind. Together, their business is growing by leaps and bounds.

There are several different story lines to follow, but the author has done a fine job in keeping things simple enough to follow, without losing any sizzle.

On one hand, Michael is hunting down the people responsible for his parents' deaths when he was an infant. Finding out they were CIA came as a shocker, and when he learns who was behind those deaths and why, he becomes obsessed.

On the other, The Mathematician is on the loose. Responsible for the murders of many men, women and children, he has taken a personal interest in Michelle. The FBI invite the pair to join their task force ... but with an agenda to use Michelle as bait.

Interspersed between these major cases, are smaller cases that their associates are following while the bosses are away.

This is a bit different from the crime thrillers I have read, but I enjoyed it immensely. I liked the different cases that were easy to follow and quite entertaining. Michael and Michelle are extremely likable, and they bring a bit of humor to a somewhat somber subject.

OCD plays a huge part in this story ... a subject I don't find often in crime thrillers. The writing shows the author spent his time researching, which leads to a credible storyline.

Many thanks to the author / Dog Ear Publishing / Netgalley for the digital copy of this most interesting book. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
