The author's own deep love for the Anne books shines through in this nonfiction voyage into the role of the Prince Edward Island landscape in both the books and in L.M. Montgomery's own life. Well-researched but never boring, with Montgomery's and Reid's prose alike alit with wonder and reverence for the natural world. A must-read for any lover of the Anne of Green Gables books.

This beautiful book is a balm for the soul. Gorgeous, lush, stunning landscapes from the island that inspired the L.M. Montgomery story. The digital version is not enough. The hardcover is a must for any library.

An interesting look at the landscapes which inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery‘s Anne of Green Gables series. Especially useful if you’re planning a trip to Canada, but also a great prompt for the armchair traveller.

Prince Edward Island is one of my favorite places on the planet.

The fictional tales of "Anne of Green Gables" have made this tiny Canadian province famous worldwide.

Many people visit the island because they fell in love with it through the writings of Lucy Maud Montgomery, but it is the beautiful landscape itself that solidifies that love.

This book contains stunningly beautiful photographs of the island and it's beautiful scenery. This is a must have for everyone who has ever visited, or dreamed of visiting, this unique and glorious island.

I rate this book as 5 OUT OF 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I adore the Anne books and have read them many times through the years, along with many other writings of LMM. I was excited to get this book and see in pictures what my mind had conjured for all those years. I enjoyed reading more about LMM's life and the area. The descriptions were well written. But I was disappointed by some of the repeated pictures. And for a photography book, I expected the pictures to be sharper and with better lighting.

I've always been a huge fan of not just Anne, but Prince Edward Island as a whole. I was delighted to find that there was a book celebrating both! This is a beautiful coffee table book that combines knowledge on Anne, beautiful photographs and facts about the Island, and the most stunning photographs.

To be honest, when I picked this book up it wasn't what I was expecting. If I was more of a plant lover I know that I would have appreciated this a whole lot more than I did because I love all things Green Gables. It still was a wonderfully informative book that wasn't just about landscapes and had lots of other information about the author and Anne Shirley. It certainly won't disappoint Anne of Green Gables fans.

As a big Anne of Green Gables’ fan, I became interested in The Landscapes of Anne of Green Gables because it provides full-color photos of the area where Anne lived. The beauty of Prince Edward Island certainly would inspire writers of all types and visual artists as well. Looking at the photos in the book make readers think about Anne and her life there found on the pages of L.M. Montgomery’s books.
Anne has long lived in my memory despite the fact that she is fiction. The pictures in The Landscapes of Anne of Green Gables only cement that memory more firmly. To add to the beauty of the book, readers will also find Montgomery’s photos and illustrations from the original publications of Anne of Green Gables.
While fans of L.M. Montgomery and Anne will enjoy The Landscapes of Anne of Green Gables, others, even those unfamiliar with the books, can enjoy the sheer beauty of the photographs.

As a childhood fan of Anne of Green Gables, this title added extra context and info that, as an adult, made me appreciate the books and their creator and locale even more.

Gorgeous book with a wonderful insight into LM Montgomery and her relationships with the landscapes of Canada and how that reflects in her works and in the historical site of Green Gables today.

So much of the beloved Anne books is centered upon the land, the scenic landscapes described. These descriptions add poetry and romanticism to the stories. When you read the Anne books yourself, tell me, weren't you inspired by the beauty of Prince Edward Island? It creates the very atmosphere of the story, and if you read between the lines, the elements of nature express and emphasize the plot and emotions therein. Some of this, I subconsciously knew before. After reading this book though, I have keener insight in the lay of Montgomery's land.

Reading this book brings out areas of Anne's character too, which I never thought about before, myself... and yet it rings true nonetheless. Her passions (and Montgomery's) are expressed through the moods of the outside world. So many nuances are there in Montgomery's writings, when it comes to her island, but you have to search the pages for it.

"It's to the natural world, then, that each girl turns when her soul is beginning to despair. The inspiration found there not only shifts her mood, it changes the very caliber of the writing, the sentences seemingly possessed of a new vitality, bringing readers into a brighter, better place."
- Catherine Reid

Such a remarkable and stunning collection of pictures are included; some from Montgomery's private collection (even taken by her own hand); some modern day shots of the bright and colorful landscapes. The red cliffs of P.E.I. just steal the show for me, so beautiful they are in photos. But I think my heart stopped beating, and I may have stopped breathing air for a moment, when I saw an actual picture of Lover's Lane in the 1920s. I think you'll feel the same way.

This book feels magical. I think it could be a balm for a hurting heart. You're seeing fictional places out in the real world (they never were "fictional" anyway). Lover's Lane, the Lake of Shining Waters, the White Lady... and it all increases my desire to visit these landmarks myself. There is so much good-feeling nostalgia locked away in this volume. You must get it for yourself!

I'm so glad to have gone on a tour via the vehicle of a book -- armchair travel. It will suffice until I go to P.E.I. to take it all in myself in person, some blissful distant day.

"I had... then as now, two great refuges and consolations -- the world of nature and the world of books. They kept life in my soul; they made me love my home because of my dreams and rambles and the deep joy and delight they gave me -- because of the halo they threw over what was otherwise bare and savorless."
- L.M. Montgomery

Lovely photos and stories about LM Montgomery's life and the landscapes & nature that influenced her Anne of Green Gables books. I delighted a fellow Anne-fan friend with a copy of this!

Wonderful! Part landscape and garden pictorial; part literary background; part engrossing travel companion (named a Smithsonian Best Travel Book of 2018); and totally inspiring. Those who haven't visited Prince Edward Island or become immersed in L.M. Montgomery's Anne books will certainly wish to do so after enjoying this lovely volume.

A gorgeous book that should be on every shelf that houses the Anne books! I'm so happy to see such a book as I think this was needed for some time.

I loved this book. The book is beautifully presented. The author explores Prince Edward Island as seen by L. M. Montgomery. It is part travel book and part biography. Anyone who has enjoyed the Anne books will enjoy seeing many of the places described in the books. The photographs are wonderful. The text is well written and really captures the island. Any fan of the Anne books will want to add this to their library. I do think this book would be better appreciated as a book and not as an ebook. Enjoy

I love anything "Anne" with an e. It never disappoints. Living in her world even for a short time is always fun and educational. I wish other authors would write similar books.
