"* received this book on NetGalley* This book has taken me a long time to get into. I'm usually a paranormal fan but as far as intrigue and plot development, this book feels so slow. I feel as though the first half of the novel was all filler.

The Hunt is the perfect finale to the The Veil series, although I am extremely sad that it's over and would to continue further with the both the wonderful story and the incredible characters that Chloe Neill created for this wonderful trilogy.

The book continues the story shortly after the events of the end of the previous book. Liam is missing and Claire is keeping herself to herself by keeping a low profile. After finding out that Liam is the number one suspect in the murder of Broussard (I'm NOT sad bout losing THAT particular character.... what a bloody git!) Claire and her little group of friends decide it's time to find Liam and warn him of what's been happening in his absence, to bring him home and to clear his name. Obviously things aren't as simple as that and it all adds up to a rip-roaring story and that grips you tightly and won't let you go until the very end of the tale. It's all incredibly riveting and is a fantastic finale to Claire and Liam's story.

Chloe Neill has created an amazingly visual series, with strong and intriguing characters caught in a war-torn world and fighting for both their own lives and the lives of everyone else in New Orleans, including all of those that they love from and evil that could rip everything to pieces all over again if it's let loose. The pacing of the book is quick and intense and the world-building as really visual as I've said, so well done that it's simple to see the world in your mind's eye and to understand what has happened and what's continuing to occur. The whole idea and the whole series has been just brilliant and it's been put together to so well, so cleanly, so strongly.

Would I recommend this book and this series....... hell YES! I just wish whole-heartedly that it wasn't over.......

As much as I have loved other Chloe Neill books in the past, I just couldn't get into this book. I've been trying to rack my brain to figure out what was missing, but it's really a combination of things. Where I normally instantly fall in love with characters, this story was a slow burn in that area. The plot is very good, but it just didn't hit the mark for me.

I would like to thank Orion Publishing Group for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book, via Netgalley, in exchange for an open and honest review.

Now, I finished reading ‘The Hunt’ a week ago and am only now getting to post my review. Firstly, it’s spring here, my whole family has been struggling through the last of the winter bugs as well as the last week of term three of school and, well, I was left with such a HUGE book hangover from ‘The Hunt’ that I needed a few days to lick my wounds, refocus on reality and get on with things.

Basically, I downloaded this book on September 21st, knew it was being released September 28th and only got to start reading it on the 23rd…. and finishing it ON the 28th. So, yeah, whirlwind read of a great book - and series - I love and so I needed recovery time. ;-)

Okay, now we know why I’ve been going on about how amazing ‘The Hunt’ is on social media while not leaving any review; let’s get on with the review!

‘The Hunt’ is the third book in ‘The Devil’s Isle Series’ by Ms Neill and I was hooked back on book one! I love the setting, the premise behind the story - the veil between our world and the beyond has been breached and magic now seeps through - and so on…. You want to know more? Go buy ‘The Veil’ and ‘The Sight’, read, enjoy and find out why I think it’s so amazing! :-D

Okay, back to my review of ‘The Hunt’. Well, I have to say I have been simply DYING to read this book as ‘The Sight’ ended in such a dramatic way. And so I found the beginning of ‘The Hunt’ a tad slow - but that can be put down to my impatience rather than Ms Neill’s writing ability.

The story begins about a month after ‘The Sight’ and a lot has happened. Claire has a new life, new duties and NOLA moves on around her as she (and the impatient reader) wonders what has happened to the man of her life.

Things then pick up well from there and the story then flows true to the first two books and before you know it you’re left with ANOTHER tremendous cliff hanger of an ending that leaves you groaning at having to wait for more and loving/ cursing Ms Neill for leaving yet another book in such a way.

Cryptic enough for you? Seriously, you want to now more - buy and read this series! It puts things like Ms Harrison’s ‘The Hollows’ into shadow with how good it is! ;-)

Unlike other series - by other authors - ‘The Hunt’ has not come across as less of a book, or as if the ideas of the series have wandered and lost their way. No, we are still going as strong as the first book, ‘The Veil’ and still keeping with the initial core principles and plot of the entire series. This is some seriously good writing! I do hate when a series starts well and blows your mind and then dwindles. That is NOT the case at all with any of the books in ‘The Devil’s Isle Series’ and that is SUCH a relief to fangirl me! ;-)

Would I recommend this book to others?

Yes I would. Though, if you haven’t guessed it, I would ensure they had read the rest of the series’ first. I mean, I suppose you COULD read each story as a stand-alone… but that would be such a waste of your time and Ms Neill’s talent. If they didn’t own ‘The Veil’ and ‘The Sight’ yet, I would recommend the person buy them while they are buying ‘The Hunt’ and then just lock themselves away for a weekend of fantastic reading.

Lovers of the true supernatural - the stuff without sparkles and/or porn on every other page - will love this book and series. Think Kim Harrison’s ‘The Hollows’, only better. Not so much a world within a world as two worlds colliding and fighting to see who wins.

Would I buy this book for myself?

Uh, I think I’ve given away my feelings on this matter already. As the answer is HECK YES! And I am already hanging out (impatiently) for the next book. Seriously Ms Neill - Write. Faster. :-D

In summary: Great book, excellent follow on to a great series, HUGE book hangover - highly recommend.

I am afraid I found this book quite hard to get into to.I really wish I had read the previous 2 books as I would have been more clued about about previous events and the characters, I found it to be very slow going as well and kept comparing it to the previous Chicagoland Series by the same author, I loved that series and didn't find I took to this one in the same way.I do think that this doesn't read so well as a stand alone book, but it is not meant to be read as one so that is my fault for jumping in on the 3rd book of the series.I don't think I can give this a fair review having not read the other books.I do wish I had connected with the characters more and liked them that would have made a difference to me.I will give this book 3 stars but hope that others will enjoy it more I do admire this authors imagination and would hope to read more books by her in the future. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I like the story. A tad slow in the beginning. Lots of worrying about Liam and what his frame of mind is and where he is. I read the first book of the series so I have an understanding of the world Claire lives in and how much she has grown since then, however I have not read the second book yet. This left me at a disadvantage because I was not familiar with what took place before between the first and third story. Lots of things I wasn’t aware of.

After the last Battle Liam was infected by 'magic' causing him into going into hiding........... he was now a prime bounty catch , if caught he would be incarcerated in Devils Isle with all the other 'paranormals'.
Claire , a sensitive , is left behind wondering where he has gone to ...... has he rejected her ?, what of their relationship ?
When a government agent is killed and Claire discovers Liam is the prime suspect, she races to find him before the government can. But proving his innocence is no simple matter. Their enemies are drawing closer, and time is running out ...............for others are also now at risk , a virus has been developed to kill 'paranormal' .
The Veil itself becomes a target ....... waiting on the other side are the Armies that have one aim -destruction of Humans .
It will take humans and paranormals working together to stand against the Armies and close the Veil once and for all .

I cannot wait for the next book in this series . The Author continues to keep me enthralled with her world building and complex characters .

This book is the third story in the devils isle series and although it resolves the majority it still leads the story open for more and you are left wondering what happens next. I will be disappointed if there is no more books in this series. I have loved reading about Claire and Liam as they fight the battle for their future and overcome the issues they are facing. The story moves along at a quick pace and is thoroughly enjoyable alongside some quirky characters makes this book a winner. I loved how everything was linked together and it gave some surprises that you didn't see coming. Chloe Neill has a fabulous way with words and has made me want to reread the series again from the beginning
