This is the sixth and last book in the Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery series by Christina Freeburn.

In this book Faith has been hired by the city council to create a town historical scrapbook. While in the midst of finding fodder for her pages, a skeleton is found on the grounds of the founding family’s estate and this discovery uncovers a whole can of worms. Even Steve, Faith’s ex-boyfriend, gets in on the act.

I didn’t quite understand why Steve quit his previous job. I got the impression during the book that he was a bit shady in his business and he hadn’t previously in other books displayed this tendency. I thought since he and Faith were still friends he would be more open about what was going on.

I enjoyed getting to see more townspeople in this installment. The mystery was compelling and I was laughing as Faith got stuck on the root mere feet from where her soon to be groom was standing. Funny stuff.

At the end of the book five, Ted proposed to Faith, and I am sort of annoyed that whole scene took place off camera, so to speak. I would have loved to see the proposal in the pages of the book. I think we, the fans, deserved to see that precious moment since it was one of the milestone things that happened in the series.

I am totally going to miss this series since this crafting type mystery is one of my favorite genres in the cozy mystery realm.

Great series start. Loving this scrapbooking/crafting cozy atmosphere.

If you love a good cozy mystery, you have to check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

Would love to see this series added to and revived. Such a great cozy for the genre.

Faith Hunter, scrap-booker extraordinaire and bride with a wedding to plan is up to her elbows in the town scrapbook history project. A historic mystery surrounding the well to do Everton family, the first family as it was of her town, Eden. A secret plea, an old diary, a sudden claim, and a shallow grave make for a more interesting project for Faith than the Historical Society project, but just maybe they are connected. A multitude of characters and an age old mystery that Faith is ready to take on.

ALTERED TO DEATH; A Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery by Christina Freeburn is the 6th in the series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Faith tried to solve the mystery surrounding the town’s founding family. Now there’s a bigger mystery to wrap up. Cute series that cozy fans will love.

Altered to Death is another one of the Scrap This murder mysteries.  When I started this book back in December I realized that I had missed out on 2 of the books in the series and considered going back to read the other two before this one.  When I realized I was never going to find the time to catch up, I decided to skip them.  I don't think that I missed out on any major details by skipping those 2 books in the series and maybe eventually I will be able to go back to them.  I think this is the first one that I read where the murder mystery didn't revolve around the scrapbook store.

Faith was hired by the town to put together a historical scrapbook of its history and it uncovered a body and a mystery that of course gets Faith into all sorts of crazy predicaments and situations.  There is a diary and no one really knows what is going on with the heir and of course, small town, everyone is all up in everyone else's business.  Faith tries to solve the mystery and get the information she needs from other people in town without revealing too much of what she has found, or thinks she has found.

This was another fun read like the others in this series that I have read and I love that there is such a niche genre of scrapbook murder mysteries out there for me to enjoy.

Altered to Death is the sixth book in the Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery series, but it can easily stand alone. I have read the first book in the series, Cropped to Death, but none of the others in between. From remarks made in this book, I can tell that Faith has had some hair-raising experiences as she continues to investigate crimes in Eden, West Virginia, and consequently, I am looking forward to reading the "in-between" books. Faith is a sometimes vulnerable, but often headstrong character. She is not afraid of asking the difficult questions when conducting an investigation, sometimes risking her own personal safety. In Altered to Death, she takes on a complex mystery regarding the ownership of Eden's historic Everton Mansion with the help of boxes of memorabilia she has been given by the townspeople to help her make a scrapbook of Eden's history. In this story, she is greatly helped by brothers Wayne and Wyatt Buford, characters I really enjoyed. There are many twists and turns in Faith's search for the truth, and it seems that nothing will deter her from her quest to find all the answers.

I really enjoyed this mystery, with characters past and present, and am glad Faith has supporters who watch her back! There is not as much about scrapbooking as there was in the first book, although a scrapbooking job ignited Faith's investigation into Eden's mysterious past.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are solely my own.

Even though Altered to Death is the sixth book in this series, it is the first I have read. The description intrigued me, loved the cover so I requested it from netgalley. A fun, fast-paced, smartly written book.
Faith Hunter, the protagonist, assists her grandmothers, Hope and Cheryl, in their scrapbooking store, Scrap This. The story takes place in Eden, West Virginia. The historical society commissions them to create a scrapbook documenting the town’s history. During the research, Faith discovers a wealth of secrets that people have worked hard to hide.
Lots of twists and turns to keep you engaged. Read and see what happens and how it’s resolved.

Altered to Death by Christina Freeburn is the sixth book in the Faith Hunter Scrap This series. This series is always a enjoyable read with many interesting elements to each story. I highly recommend this series .
In this next in series Faith our protagonist is planning her wedding and looking int o research of the towns history. She becomes involved in making a scrapbook and soon finds the clues to a old mystery. The appearance of her old boyfriend with a claim on the town history gives her reason to delve further into the mystery. Soon she is head first into the history of the town and the center of a mystery she cannot seem to solve easily.
I enjoy how the author incorporates different stories in each book. The reader has the pleasure of different story lines, characters and mysteries . The series is always exciting and fun to read. I look forward to the next in series. Thank you for the ARC which did not influence my review.

In this book, Faith Hunter is busy planning her wedding, putting together a scrapbook of the town of Eden’s history and looking into some of the mysteries that surround the town’s first family who left mysteriously with no idea where they went and who had no further contact with the town—until a mysterious heir to the family fortunes comes into play. Faith also helps out at her grandmothers’ scrapbook store, Scrap This. As she becomes involved in the disappearance of the town’s founding family, the Evertons, and the mysterious heir, Faith begins to uncover and unravel mysteries and events that many in the town would prefer to be left alone and hidden. Still, Faith persists in her quest for answers and explanations, though the list of what she seeks and finds in her search grows quickly as the story unfolds.

This is a well written mystery, with well developed characters. I have not read any of the other books in the series, and I wish the author had provided more back story about the characters, so I could better understand who they are and the role they played in this mystery. The book can be read as a stand-alone, but some knowledge of the many and varied characters and their relationships would have helped me understand better what was going on. The ending was not unexpected, though it was well done, with a lot leading up to it, and believable. Finally, I enjoyed the book and the plot, but I am not sure I found the main character sleuth, Faith, as enjoyable as I have other character sleuths in other stories/series. I think I was a bit overcome so many events and surprises, almost too much, that were going on in her life, so it took some effort to keep track of just who was who and what was going on and how it all played together in the story. If you enjoyed the other books in the series, you will probably enjoy this one. For other readers, this is definitely a good one to read. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

Altered to Death by Christina Freeburn is the sixth book in the Faith Hunter Scrap This series. Faith is busy planning her wedding and putting together a scrapbook of the town's history. The mystery of what happened to the founding family is puzzling enough, but then a body is unearthed at the family's abandoned mansion. I read this book in less than a day. The story moved quickly, and the book was hard to put down. The mystery and sub-plots had several twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. While this is the first book I have read in this series, it will not be the last.

I hadn't read any of the previous books in this series so struggled only in the respect that I had to figure out who everyone was and how they were related. It was easy to 'catch up' in most respects, however, and that left a lot of time to enjoy the rest of the book. I don't have any interest in scrapbooking and fortunately, there wasn't a lot of time spent on aspects of that, although there was enough to show that Faith's interest in her business wasn't just cursory, as some characters' have the unfortunate habit of. Faith loved her shop and her business and it was nice to see her spending a good amount of time there, but not being beaten over the head by day-to-day details of retail work.

Her relationships with her grandmas seemed solid and warm, her fiancee (albeit a bit of a cliche as a cop) seemed sincere and she has a good rapport with people around her, even if she doesn't like them. The mystery was good and I liked that she shared her information with the cops, rather than keeping it to herself.

This was an easy and enjoyable read, although I'm not sure I would read any others in the series, simply because - as stated above - I don't have any interest in scrapbooking. The characters, however, could be enough for me to change my mind if I found one at the library.

Altered to Death

by Christina Freeburn

Altered to Death is an enjoyable cozy mystery with a good plot and likable characters. I had lots of interruptions, but was always eager to return to the story. I did have to remind myself of various characters but that is more of a reflection on my memory than on the book itself.

I had read one other book in this series and I liked it, but I think Christina Freeburn’s writing has improved with this one. The plot was intricate with many possible pathways, but none seemed invented just to be deceptive; they were all realistic and tied in with other plot threads. There were surprises even after the mystery of an unidentified skeleton uncovered during a renovation was resolved. Tying the present mystery into the sudden disappearance of one of the town’s founding families made the tale even more interesting. If a decaying mansion, old diaries, secrets long hidden in an attic, and a possible secret passageway are intriguing to you, then you will enjoy Altered to Death.

I would like to extend my thanks to netgalley.com and to Henery Press for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: 5/5

Category: General Fiction (Adult), Mystery

Notes: #6 in the Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery Series, but works well as a standalone

Publication: November 28, 2017—Henery Press

Memorable Lines:

Some believed that a spouse had to have known the evil the other one did. I hadn’t. I had no clue my then husband had murdered someone until I was arrested for it.

Attractive people were considered nice, smart, and good while unattractive people were often seen as mean, stupid, and evil.

Tonight had a bad memory attached to, but it was only a night, one moment in time and tomorrow would be different.

Faith Hunter should be enmeshed in all things wedding but she can't move beyond the scrapbook she's been comissioned to make for the town. When mysterious bones are found she becomes further distracted. Fun characters, great cozy!

Faith has been commissioned by the local historical society to create a scrapbook to be displayed in the newly refurbished Everton House. As the renovations begin to pick up steam, skeletons and secrets begin to be uncovered, literally. Unfortunately for the town of Eden, not all the secrets uncovered remain within the grounds of the Everton House.

Freeburn’s scrapbooking mystery is a cozy, satisfying book to jump into while kicking back on a winter’s afternoon. It may be cozy but don’t let your guard down. There are violent perpetrators and shady characters lurking about. Faith finds herself in dangerous circumstances more than once. This is a highly enjoyable installment to the series.

I love this fun cozy series that's set around a scrapbook shop Faith Hunter's grandmother's shop "Scrap this." Faith who manages the shop who is also notorious for doing a bit of sleuthing on the side has taken on the challenge of putting together a scrapbook regarding the town of Eden. The town has decided to preserve the Everton's house which belongs to the Everton's who at one time owned most of Eden. Faith finds herself drawn into a murder mystery when a body is uncovered while they are restoring the property.
There is a lot of speculation about the possibility of secret heirs of the Everton's who if proven will come into a windfall of money. The mysterious Everton's left the town of Eden under secretive circumstances, so anything is possible. Faith finds herself in some trouble while trying to find out if these people who claim to be heirs are just that or is something more sinister going on?
I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this e-galley for my unbiased review.

A fun, fast-paced, smartly written book that kept me entertained and intrigued from the first word to the last. I really liked Faith Hunter, who assists her grandmothers, Hope and Cheryl, in their scrapbooking store, Scrap This, in Eden, West Virginia, and her dynamic with the other characters, especially Detective Ted Roget. This book quickly became a page turner with a good mystery, secrets, a vintage dead body, twists and turns.

Even though Altered to Death is the sixth book in this series, it is the first I have read and enjoyed it so much, I purchased all of the Faith Hunter Scrap This Mysteries that are published. I look forward to see what happens next with Faith and the residents of Eden.

I received a free advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my unbiased review.

Place:  Eden, West Virginia

People:  Faith Hunter, narrator and fiance of Eden police detective Ted Roget. The Buford family - mom Gussie and her sons Wayne and Wyatt. The Brodart family - matriarch Georgia and her sons Hank and Matthew.

Plot:  Faith has been hired by the Eden Historical Society to create a set of scrapbooks documenting the history of the town. As she works, people from around town have been dropped off documents and photos that Faith may use in her layouts. Georgia Brodart, recently widowed, invites Faith over to pick up some items she might use. During the visit, Georgia lets slip that she thinks her husband was murdered because he knew a valuable secret - that Georgia herself is actually a descendant of the town founders, the Everton family. When a body is dug up where pipes are supposed to be at the Everton mansion where Wayne and Wyatt are making substantial renovations, Faith begins to wonder if there may be truth to Georgia's claims.

Pacing:  Steady-quick

Predictability:  Mild

Perspective:  Oh, the perils of greed. Altered to Death is the sixth book in Christina Freeburn's Faith Hunter Scrap This mystery series and could be considered a classic case study in what greed gets you. The story centers on the story of how Eden was founded - and what allegedly happened to the family who did the finding. As legend has it, the two youngest daughters ran off with robbers and the rest of the family snuck off in the middle of the night in disgrace. Regardless of where the full truth of the story lies, the Everton family was quite wealthy. The estate they left behind was, over the years, claimed by the town and used as retail property, with the exception of the family mansion, which was being renovated. If an heir were to be discovered, he or she would be able to reclaim a lot of valuable property, and that is a very alluring prospect in the hands of some dangerous - and desperate - townspeople. The story is an intriguing mix of small town history and big city crime with a few twists that I did not see coming. And, just when you think you've solved the mystery, keep reading - Christina Freeburn lays out one more plot turn to keep her readers hooked!

This is a great book; this is the sixth book in the Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery Series written by Christina Freeburn. This book can be read as a standalone, but once you read it you will defiantly want to go back and catch up with the other book in this series. Even knee-deep in planning her wedding, Faith Hunter finds herself distracted by the town scrapbook she was commissioned to create. Eden’s oldest mystery, the founding family’s exodus nearly a hundred years ago, remains unsolved. When a search through the family’s abandoned mansion leads to the uncovering of bones on the property and ex-boyfriend Steve Davis announces a surprise heir has staked a claim, Faith is determined to dig up the truth left behind. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

“Altered to Death” earns 5/5 Books of Memories, Secrets, and…Murder?

I am new to Christina Freeburn’s Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery series and eager to join in on all the rave reviews with book six, “Altered to Death.” I had a bit of a newbie handicap, but after reading a few of the synopses and reviews for the previous books, I was set! I learned that after a disaster (I’ll find out about that soon), Faith Hunter had resigned from her JAG specialist career and returned to her West Virginia home to help her grandmother with her scrapbooking shop, Scrap This, and finds herself piecing together clues in several interesting murder investigations (I’m eager to read about those adventures, too). So, needless to say, this ‘newbie’ is prepared and excited.

In this well-written, engaging sixth book, I leapt forward to find Faith Hunter is set to get married, but in between planning her wedding and managing the shop, she has been commissioned to create a scrapbook about the history of the town of Eden which is turning out to be a much more time-consuming task than originally thought. But this all leads her to a frantic widow, a skeleton key, and an attic full of photos and personal papers. From there Christina weaves a very intriguing tale with lots of clues, secrets, and connections: a mystery surrounding the unexplained disappearance ninety-five years ago of the Evertons, a widow’s fear her husband’s heart attack was murder, a missing Everton diary, a previously unknown Everton relative, and the discovery of a skeleton. Wow! A great story with very entertaining characters…I loved it!
