As a huge Harry Potter fan, I was happy to receive this book for a review. I like knowing random trivia. This book has some interesting facts in it that I liked learning about. It really was a lot of fun learning about some of the items. It's astonishing to see what these items are worth (though it is subjective really). I can't say I loved this book, but I did like reading it.

We go from the first editions of the books (and how to pick them out), posters, jewelry, Funkos, and movie props. The "Did You Know" Facts were a good addition to the book and many of them I didn't actually know. I enjoyed seeing items that I have seen before and then the other items I never have.

The most interesting part was probably how the books have changed from their first editions.

When I noticed there's a book on Harry Potter collectibles in the NetGalley, I really didn't need to think twice to download it for a review. And I wasn't disappointed. Eric Bradley: The Unofficial Guide to the Collectibles of Our Favourite Wizard, Harry Potter is a profound and interesting read to anyone interested in the Potter phenomenon.

For potterheads there are no limits to what they will pay for the memorabilia connected to the wizarding world of Harry Potter. At least that’s how it seems after reading Eric Bradley’s book on the topic. He presents impressive statistics of the sums that different Harry Potter items have collected in auctions around the world.
Bradley goes through very thoroughly all the different collectibles from books to posters, from movie props to merchandise and doesn’t even forget the DIY and crafts by the fandom. The latter phenomenon has exploded within the Potterworld and presents perhaps the most interesting part of the collectibles.

I know it’s hard to break away from the stories, movies, and additional add-on books, but most Potter fans will find this book extremely interesting. Magazine editor and author of multiple antique books Eric Bradley has put together an awesome book.

The pictures alone should be enough to sell this book. They are striking, and big enough for all the small details to be seen. The text is there when you are done admiring the art, and it has plenty of fun facts about the items (both the ones you can buy and the ones you can’t). The collectibles are sorted by chapters, ranging from books and merchandise to movie props and posters, as well as a few extra chapters most of us wouldn’t have thought of. Auction prices, both the realistic and the magical, are listed, as well as the places where one could go to view the items that aren’t for sale.

I found it amazing that many of the items are not that expensive, and if the $13, 450 to purchase a set of the seven (signed by Rowling) U.K. Potter titles isn’t handy, there are plenty of things you can order right now (My favorite: A T-shirt that says “On a scale of 1 to 10, how obsessed am I with Harry Potter? 9-3/4” with the Second Favorite being the 31-disc Unofficial Guide to the Collectibles of Our Favorite Wizard that comes in a box with additional items hidden away in different compartments).

Definitely a book that will interest pickers, traders, and all those die-hard Harry Potter fans out there. Five stars.

My thanks to NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book.

I'm not quite sure who this book was written for. A serious Potterhead might know most of its content already and a casual HP reader, if there is someone like that, might not be interested in this information.

Sorry to say, I found it boring.

This was a great book, thoroughly enjoyed the trip down HP memory lane. The author did a wonderful job going through the merchandise and books, showing many different items and what they are worth. He showcased everything from movie posters to first edition books to the chair J.K. Rowling sat in to write the books. Lots of little insider items that were fun to see and know about.
FYI's about items, movies, props and characters made each section fun to go through. Great book for Potter fans to have on hand.

Harry Potter - The Unofficial Guide to the Collectibles of Our Favorite Wizard from F + W Media and written/curated by Heritage Auctions' Eric Bradley, is an in-depth very well photographed collectible price and ID book covering most everything associated with 'Harry Pottery' (all things Potter).

The guide, at 208 pages is well packed with items which are assembled into chapters. The table of contents lists an introduction, including what is (and isn't) 'Harry Pottery', 8 chapters divided into ephemera and props from the books, movie posters, actual movie props, other items (for example the signed, author decorated chair where she wrote the books - $394,000), retail collectible merchandise, limited edition collectibles, fandom and Potter-inspired collectibles.

The books have a special place in most readers' memories and world. Actually owning a piece of gear which was used in the movies has the capacity to turn otherwise rational people into squealing fangirls/boys. To be absolutely honest, I started a review of this book and got distracted several times just looking at the items over and over again. The chances of me ever actually plonking down $1.9 miiiillion dollars (please insert Dr. Evil voice) are nil, but darn it, that is one FINE book!

Yes, the book includes pics of a handmade morocco leather bound hand written and drawn (by J.K. Rowling herself) copy of Beedle the Bard. The backstory has never been published (as far as I know). A prop version of this book in the movie was given to Hermione by Dumbledore. Afterward, the author handwrote and illustrated the story for a select number of friends. The cover furnishings are sterling silver encrusted with semiprecious stones.

Back to the collectibles book. It's unofficial but very well written, no-nonsense text by a professional who writes collectible and valuation catalogs as his day job. He knows what he's talking about.

This book is what it is; a well curated valuation guide and photographic encyclopedia. I was actually quite surprised at how affordable a lot of the collectibles are. A first edition authentic movie poster can be had for $40-200.

Four stars, although now I really want to go find an original movie poster to go with my Creature from the Black Lagoon and Plan 9 From Outer Space posters!

I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, so I was very excited to receive this book for a review. This book is filled with information on different Potter collectibles, as well as how much they're being sold for at auctions and such. Throughout the book, there are little "Did you know?" snippets. What I found most interesting were some of the changes made in later reprints of the books!
Definitely an interesting book for any HP fan!

I consider myself a Harry Potter fan, and in fact gradually converted my muggle of a husband into a closeted Slytherin (not my first choice, but at least he’s sorted now).

As much of a fan as I am, I don’t really have much in the way of Harry Pottery. According to this book Harry Pottery is the term for all things that are collected by fans of Harry Potter. I have a wand and some metal house bookmarks, but this book made me realize what a wide variety of items there are out there. And I pretty much want them all. Except the posters. Someone else can collect those. But seriously if someone can give me The Monster Book of Monsters for Christmas I would be greatly appreciative.

This book was really informative and opened my eyes up to all the different things that could be collected, even though the chapter on posters bored me some, I was interested to know that some of the bigger movie posters are fairly cheap because it costs so much to frame them. I hadn’t thought of that before, and I would probably be someone that would buy a huge poster without giving thought to the cost of framing (and then never get it framed due to the cost). I still might do it… but at least I’m informed now. My favorite pieces throughout the book were actually the one of a kind items. The work that went into most of those pieces is incredible but its also inspiring to know that Harry Potter fans can use their talents and their love of the fandom to create valuable art. I’m a collector by nature, and while Harry Pottery wasn’t one of my collections this book has made me want to get started.

As a Harry Potter memorabilia collector I found this book very informative. It will help readers identify first editions of both US and UK books. Definitely worth reading.

This book makes for an interesting read, as a Harry Potter fan since the first edition books appeared on shop shelves, I was amazed by the information I gained knowledge of from this guide.

From our books to the movie props and cinema given poster stock, art work and other various rare merchandise from the film set, we learn of auctions taken place for items and the guide prices for others too. Even rare Lego and popular new Funko Pops of the franchise are featured with astonishing prices.

If you have merch yourself or love the series and want ton learn more, this is a great book for you to get your hands on.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

This was an interesting read, although I wish there had been more content focused on the items, rather than the price they sold for. The last two chapters were the strongest of the book, it was great to hear from a selection of fans about why they collected Harry Potter items, and how it affected their everyday life. There were some Harry Potter mistakes though--Sirius Black is Harry's godfather, not his uncle. Overall, an okay read, but I wasn't blown away.

*thank you to F+W Media and Netgalley foor a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

3 stars.
I consider myself to be an average fan of the Harry Potter series, having out off reading the books for 20 years because I was wanting to save them (im weird, I know), but this year, the 20th Anniversary, I pickee up the first book and read and read. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It made me feel that warmth you get from something truly special. So when I started reading this book, I was going back into that wonderful world and I once again felt that warm love feeling. This book is a must for all fans who can never ever get enough of Harry Potter. The 'Did You Know' facts were interesting and I really enjoyed seeing all those pictures, most I have seen, some I havent. My favourite is one I have not seen before, which I think is on page 20. The movie poster with the owl carrying the letter address to Harry with the date, November 16 2001 underneath.
So yes, while most of it is about the costs these books are all going for and other facts and figures (understandably as it is called, 'Harry Potter - The Unofficial Guide to the Collectibles of Our Favorite Wizard') and all related to that, it is a good decent book.
