This second chance romance was filled with laughter, tears and all kinds of feels. Seriously, my little heart was breaking all through this book.

Rachel brought us a fabulous group of characters that you can’t help but fall for. I wasn’t sure how I was going through feel about Brant but then she let us glimpse inside his heart and then I was hooked. Nikki was my favorite though. Her story gutted me. I can’t even explain how much. I wanted to reach in and hug her.

I was super happy to see all the past characters and a few new ones, along with a few surprises. I am totally looking forward to the next book!

The story line was a great one and it was sad. I didn’t cry while reading it.

I haven’t been a fan of this series. This was by far the best book in the series. I really had the feels in some parts of this book.

I loved how Cole was such an amazing friend to Nikki. I loved how he took such good care of her. My heart broke that she didn’t see him as more than a friend, but I understand why. While he wanted her I don’t think he tried hard enough to prove he wanted more than friends. But I would love to watch Cole fall.

This book was hard for me. I’m not big on some of the things that happen in this story. While I wasn’t a fan of certain things in this story it was worth the read and one I’d recommend to others!!

The third book in the Bachelors of Arizona though the first book I've read in the series. Brant and Nikki have spent the last years apart, after having been married, but were torn apart by grief. Nadine thrusts them together again when she encourages (orders?) Nikki to bid on him at a bachelor auction. Brant decides not to honor the bid so Nadine gives him an ultimatum: go on the date or work at their spa business. If Brant had known what awaited him at the spa he would've just gone on the damn date, or so he believes.

This book was not what I expected. I'd thought it would be like a fake girlfriend/marriage thing that (of course) turns real, with the leads not sure where their relationship will take them. This was not the case here. Nadine believes Nikki and Brant should be together so she make Nikki bid on him. Brant just wants to wallow in his grief rather than deal with it even though he can think of nothing but Nikki for the last four years. He decides not to go on the date so Nadine gives him an offer to work at the Wellington spa. Brant takes this deal, not realizing Nikki will be there and that this is all part of the master plan.

I didn't care for this book as much as I thought I would - though it is by no means bad, just not entirely to my liking. I'm sure I'll be in the vast minority that thought there were little redeeming character traits in the main characters and I found it hard to connect with them. However, there were some moments I found humorous though I thought some of those were out of place and ill-timed (in-story). I really liked Nikki's best friend and manager and Grandma Nadine is a delight. If were to pick one person in the story I'd want to be, it is Annie, the receptionist. I liked her a lot. I liked the story enough to go back and read The Bachelor Auction, which I own but accidentally missed reading before starting this one. I'd like to find out how the story starts. If anyone likes angst-filled romances and/or is a fan of Mrs. Van Dyken's other work, this is the one for you.

I received an ARC of this story via NetGalley and decided to voluntarily provide my honest opinion.

OMG what a great story! Emotional and angsty with doses of humor thrown in. Watching Brant and Nikki reconnect after their tragic breakup and divorce was amazing since they never stopped loving each other :)

I'll be going back and reading the previous books in this series.

I definitely didn't expect this from the author!!

Did that scare you? Well, I had to express my pent up emotion! I actually meant it in the best way. I have read the other books in the series, so I knew Brant had something serious in his past. But this is way beyond my expectations. Wow, the author had me pretty emotional in the end!

The author's writing is spot on, finding perfect targets for her words. All the scenes either had me laughing with the way the supporting cast was poking into the hero and heroine's lives or sad and angry with the way their past had played out. The author has portrayed the characters well and had the past and present so entwined that at times it felt overloaded.

Brant is such a guy! I understand his situation but I didn't like him in the beginning with his attitude and crass behaviour. But he too redeems himself because towards the end I could see what caused the change in him. And even the strongest person would be overwhelmed with the horror the author has put him through. Yeah I totally blame the author! (kidding!)

Nikki..Nikki.. What do I say about her? She is so strong and I can't imagine anyone in her plight. The way she deals with everything and her final capitulation to Brant's love had me favouring her throughout the book.

The story had me sniffling with the pair's trials while the family's meddling had me smiling in delight. I especially loved Cole and his surprise in relation to Nadine had me agog to see if there's a future book for him!

My one line review : Pretty heavy and emotional!

My rating : 4.5/5

My reread factor : 3.5/5

The Bachelor Contract by Rachel Van Dyken is an enjoyable, heartfelt second chance romance.

I enjoyed the storyline and I found it easy to follow.
Brant and Nikki shared a deep love and married at a young age against their families wishes. But after losing their baby their love wasn't enough to help them get through the hard emotional times.
Both took their grief out on each other which leads to the breakdown of their marriage.

After they separated Brant drowns his sorrows by drinking and bedding anything in a skirt. [I was not a fan of Brant's manwhore ways and this did bring my overall rating down. I felt that it was sufficient to show his hurt/anger/pain with his drinking. The sleeping around and then rubbing it in Nikki's face? yeah total turnoff. (hide spoiler)]

I liked Nikki, she took steps to move on with her life. She had a job she enjoyed, she had good friends and she had her independence. She didn't let her blindness stop her from living the best life she could. There was just one thing missing, Brant. Nikki's heart still longed for Brant and would always beat for him. He was the "one" sigh...

It was heartbreaking watching Brant and Nikki relive their pain, what they went through is a parents worse nightmare and I truly felt for them.
When they finally open their hearts and communicate with honesty and actually listen to each other it brings forgiveness and closure to that painful part of their life allowing them to love each other and look forward to a happy life together.

The Bachelor Contract is a good second chance read, it will bring out the feels and leave you with a heart full of love.

The Bachelors of Arizona series has been a fun, entertaining and heartwarming read. Each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them.

My 3.5/4 star is up on Goodreads and will be posted on release blitz 11/28/17 on blog and social media. and links will be updated. UPDATED 11/28/17

3.5 to 4 stars
This is the third Bachelors of Arizona book and is Brant's story. Now Brant is a hot mess. He is numbing his pain and loss in unhealthy ways and is angry, lost, guilt-ridden, and broken. His self worth took a major hit and he is just not happy in life.

His ex-wife Nikki's life also changed in the course rapidly and her life was never the same either. Four years later, she is still hurt, angry, and trying to deal with the fall-out from the past. She has made a new life with new friends, but she is not truly fulfilled.

When Grandma Nadine and his Grandfather and family get involved it can only mean trouble. He should have guessed that his new job was going to have a catch. But he never dreamed it would be seeing the woman he lost years ago everyday at work. And neither of them are really ready for that.

There is antagonism, avoidance, fear, longing, sexual tension, and a ton of unresolved feelings going on. There is a thin line between love and hate and they are riding it. They really had no closure and made mistakes in a time that they were both suffering and did not know how to deal with it. Decisions were made in haste without all of the information and they both have suffered the consequences and could not forget.

But as they begin to spend more time together, some engineered by the nosy family surrounding them, they start to look at their lives both past and present. There is good, bad, and really bad, but they are also opening up to more of a promise of hope that things could change for the better.

But Brant is skilled at fight or flight and sometimes says the wrong things. And when he is confused, it seems to be worse. But as he starts to really look at what he left behind, the picture gets clearer. And he could also actually be sweet, thoughtful, and swoony if he put his mind to it.

Nikki is strong and independent minded, but she has to be. Her life has not been easy and required her to make changes. And now that Brant is back, she has to figure out if she can open herself up to him and risk being hurt again. Life in her own little place is safe and predictable, but Brant is definitely not either of those things.

They still have the same physical and emotional connection from before that was never really extinguished. But they have built up guards around their hearts for self protection. And in order to move on, they will have to face their demons and decide whether they will let the pain sweep them away alone again or if they can hold hands and get through it together. Although they had a foundation built when they were younger, they will have to learn the new people that they have become.

This was fun, emotional, heartbreaking, sexy, and sweet. This has Rachel Van Dyken's trademark humor and comedy, but there are also some heavy and emotional topics. Sometimes it is a bit all over the place with the fast pace and swinging emotions, but it kind of fit with Brant's personality. He was a bit hard to warm up to when he was in his angry a-hole stage. Nikki was easy to like, but I also felt bad for her since she had been through so much.

The meddling side characters really bring the humor, teasing, and support when needed. His brothers, Brock and Bentley are back along with their new loves. Grandma Nadine and Grandfather Charles are still scene stealers with their overbearing need to control their family's lives. Nikki's best friend Cole was awesome. He was charming, witty, and sharp and really kept Brant on his toes. But I loved how he treated Nikki. I wonder if he might pop up sometime in a future story as Nadine has her eye on him and when Nadine gets a wild hair to be a matchmaker....

The Bachelor Contract by Rachel Van Dyken is the third book in The Bachelors of Arizona Series. Every book is about another couple and can easily be read as a standalone. The other books are The Bachelor Auction, Jane and Brock´s story; and The Playboy Bachelor, Margot and Bentley´s story.
The Bachelor Contract is Nikki and Brant´s book.

Nikki and Brant were married. But they suffered a terrible loss and a big tragedy. They are separated and everyone lives his own life. Nikki is better acclimated than Brant. She has a good job, great friends and is content. He drinks his days and his sorrow away. He´s eaten by guilt and full of self-pity. ´til these two are put in each others paths again.
Let me tell you, The Bachelor Contract did a number on me. The book is raw and gritty and sometimes painful. This story has it all—tension, angst, suspense and heartbreak. I've smiled, laughed, cried and was angry at some point. It is not often I feel so connected to the characters, but Rachel Van Dyken has accomplished just that. I love the story, the characters and the words.
I recommend The Bachelor Contract and give 5 stars. Thank you, Rachel Van Dyken !

I was not expecting to cry when I went into this book. The other two books were pretty light-hearted and fun so I assumed we’d be getting the same with Brant’s story. I was wrong.

While I thoroughly enjoyed this book it almost feels like it was two different stories to me. Initially Brant was all anger and refusal to face anything from his past, especially Nikki. He was out of control with his partying and seemed to be hitting rock bottom with no signs of taking control of his life.
Cole was protective and wouldn’t let anything or anyone, especially Brant get close enough to hurt Nikki. Then suddenly it was like Brant was all about facing Nikki and, although he was still angry and rude, he faced her pretty easily. How being forced into facing her didn’t send him into even a tiny bit of a spiral is beyond me and kind of seemed to go against everything we knew about him. Then there was Cole who, out of nowhere, just left Nikki alone with Brant. I struggled with the whole shift in behavior from pretty much everyone besides Nikki.

That being said, once the shift happened I couldn’t stop reading. And crying. And laughing. Somehow through all the heartbreak and pain that had to surface in order for Nikki and Brant to even begin to try again, there was light-hearted funny moments that kept the story from feeling too heavy. Cole, Nadine and the rest of the secondary characters lent the perfect touch of humor that kept this feeling like the rest of the series. We’re getting a Cole book, right?

As usual with RVD, the writing was awesome, the character development was on point and the comedic tones were perfection. Definitely recommend.

This was my first read from Rachel Van Dyken, and I have heard good things about her books. Unfortunately this one just didn't work for me. But I'm not giving up yet, I will try another one and see if it's a better fit.

I should mention that this is the third book in the Bachelors of Arizona series, and I have not read the earlier books. I didn't feel like I was lost or missing too much information, but after reading some other reviews I understand that this story may have been playing out in earlier books. Regardless, I didn't feel like I was missing anything vital.

Brant and Nikki married very young without a blessing from either of their families and they attempted to make a go of it on their own. Unfortunately a horrible tragedy struck the couple and they were just too young and naive to deal with it. We meet them again four years living apart and tortured by the past. Brant has become an alcoholic asshole, and Nikki is blind and struggling through life as a masseuse. Determined to drag Brant out of his misery, his family orchestrates a situation where the two won't be able to avoid one another.

Nikki was a tortured heroine, who I found to be somewhat sympathetic. I liked that our heroine had a disability... well not that she had a disability, but that she wasn't perfect. It provided some nice diversity, and I thought she managed her life quite well for her blindness. In totality, Nikki's situation was heartwrenching, and my heart went out to her for what she has suffered. However, she cried All. The. Time. Seriously, even before she encountered Brant again, she was tearing up left and right. It was just a bit too much for me.

In contrast, Brant held his emotions in check until they exploded out of him in a rage. He was an angry alcoholic asshole, though he did seem to stop drinking cold turkey without any pesky withdrawal problems. I didn't get why he was so determined to be a jerk to everyone around him... but it seemed like being a hardass with his employees was a reputation he earned from a young age in the company business. I understood that he was supposed to be depressed and angry and sad and guilty, but I didn't find that his motivation matched his behavior.

Speaking of, all of the emotions just felt forced to me. I didn't buy anyone's motivations, feelings didn't feel authentic, and behavior seemed erratic. The writing was disjointed at times where I had to go back and read to see if I missed a section. And all of the comedic attempts fell flat. To have such a heavy subject between the H/h, Nadine and Grandfather's antics seemed more inappropriate and awkward than comedic relief.

So while this one did not work for me, I am in the minority of reviewers as of the date I wrote this review. So don't let my feelings dissuade you from giving the story a shot. I'd love to discuss your thoughts!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher, Forever Romance.

The Bachelor Contract is slated as a Romantic Comedy by Author Rachel Van Dyken.  I don't think you'll find it full on comedy as there are some pretty good realities that needed to be learned in this story with these characters.

Brant Wellington is a wealthy man determined to drown himself in a bottle.  He lost something precious to him and he's found the best way to deal with the pain is to drink to blackout.

Nikki lost something precious to her and instead of dealing with the issue she pushed people away - even the one who meant the world to her.  Her husband, Brant Wellington.

Now the two of them find themselves working together in the same hotel.  Well...not really together.  Brant is now her boss!  How ever will this pan out?  Neither expected to end up in the same hotel together.  Leave it to their meddling family to intervene on their behalf.

This story is a sweet romance.  Once they get past themselves, Brant and Nikki, have a love story that's pretty perfect.  Sure there's some black times included in their overall fairy tale but nothing they shouldn't be able to work together to overcome.  This is where they went wrong.

Thankfully they get a second chance at their forever love.  You just have to hope that neither of them will screw it up!

This is the third book in The Bachelors of Arizona series. It is a standalone, but all three are great reads. Each book is about one of the brothers.

We finally get Brant’s book! I’ve been so excited to get this one.

Brant has a drinking problem. Hell, he is an alcoholic. We do get the catalyst for it. He had some pretty major blows take him down. He drinks to forget what happened, and the guilt he has.

He walked away. He didn’t fight.

Nikki is his ex-wife. She went through all of those blows with him. They happened to her too. But, she didn’t fight for him either.

They were young. Everyone was against them.

Now thanks to Nadine’s meddling ways, they may just get their second chance.

I have to say that I absolutely love Nadine!

I love how Rachel’s stories just suck me right in, and I can’t put them down.

I hope Cole gets tricked by Nadine next! I really hope he gets a story also.

Brant Wellington has been living life in a drunken stupor since he walked out on the love of his life. Filling the void with woman and a playboy lifestyle, he knows he will never be happy again... and nothing will stop his self destruction.

Nikki lost everything when Brant left her. To add insult to injury, the accident where she lost her vision was the catalyst which drove them apart. Nikki not only lost her husband, but the one person she could rely on in one swoop...

One bachelor auction later, Nikki and Brant realize that they may never be able to let the other go, but life must go on without them... until a certain calculating grandma and grandpa duo start their manipulations once again...

This was a great read! Nikki is a strong woman who has been living the past 4 years blind and completely on her own. With one fantastic friend and co-workers whom she loves, she is content with the life she has built herself... but something will always be missing. Brant made the biggest mistakes of his life when it came to Nikki, and he spends his life drinking and having sex with random women all in the pursuit of forgetting his past.

This book was a second chance romance, and the finale to the Bachelors of Arizona series. This story dealt with some hard situations people deal with in life, and the cold reality of what happens when it all gets to be too much. Featuring two people who have grown emotionally and have realized the love they are missing, all wrapped up in Rachel Van Dyken's signature brand of humor and a close knit family of characters.

I receive a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

Let me describe this book in two words...GRANDMA NADINE! Seriously, I cannot deal with the hilarity that ensues this woman's saucy, unfiltered, unforgiving mouth, bless her. I found myself grinning and giggling at her antics, she truly makes the story. Now let me move onto the actual story, I usually am not a fan of second chance romance but their is just something magical about Rachel Van Dyken that has me following her into any genre and story line. This story was silly and endearing; even while tackling tough topics, I managed to close the last page with my heart in tack.

Brant, well he was your typical, tortured alpha but fear not for his rock hard body makes up for it. Nik was sweet and brave, I loved her and Grandma Nadine's relationship from the very start. The secondary characters and the banter made this story. Rachel has a talent for making conversations relate-able, I felt like I was a member of the staff or a guest who was at the hotel watching this all unfold. And while I certainly fell for Nik and Brant...can I get a book for Cole please? Where did this little slice of man candy come from? Yes, he absolutely deserves a book.

But for real, I am going to need more of Grandma Nadine stat, I will accept her intoxicated or sober for both versions bring me no greater joy...and I am not going to lie, Grandfather wasn't all the bad either.

*Five LOVE IS BLIND stars*

Wow, just wow! This book was totally different (in all the best ways) then I thought it would be!  We've been teased with snippets of Brant in Bentley & Brock's stories, but he has SO many more emotional layers!

When the story begins, we learn of the past that Brant and Nikki share, and their sweet, young & innocent start.  Plagued by unruly and nonsupporting families, their love still persevered.  They are torn apart as they face loss, hardships & heartache on a multitude of levels.

Rachel's writing in this novel is flawless, and I felt every emotion with the characters, the good and the bad -- I may have even thrown the old kindle during this one!  The side characters in this series are some of my favorites <cough> Nadine Titus <cough> so it's always nice to reconnect with them.

With a little of her creative help --stemming from the bachelor auction--these two are forced back into close proximity where the sparks fly.  Is that enough to bring them back together?  With an epic ending that only the sly RVD can cook up, i suggest picking up this emotional second chance romance today!!

3.5 Stars This is the first book by Rachel Van Dyken that I have read and although it is the third book in The Bachelor’s of Arizona series it can be read as a standalone.
I had a hard time liking Brant through most of the book. How could he walk away from Nikki all those years ago when she needed him the most? They were both hurt and broken but to say you love her and walk away? At least he does finally come around and figures out how to work things out and win her back.
I did enjoy the actual writing of the book mixed with some good one-liners and humor from the characters, especially Cole!

This book is the third in the Bachelors of Arizona series but absolutely can be read as a standalone book. Brant and Nikki met and married when they were very young. They didn’t have blessings from either of their families, but that was OK in the beginning. They had each other. But when tragedy struck, they were both too hurt by each other and by circumstances to be able to make it through and they went their separate ways. Both hurt beyond what they could handle. Brant turned to drinking and women. Nikki turned to her career and her best friend. Now they are thrown together… can they get beyond the hurt, or will the hate be too great to overcome?

Yes, I’m a pretty big (OK huge!) fan of this author. But I have to say, this wasn’t my favorite of her romcom series books. Don’t get me wrong. This is a great story. And really angsty for a romcom. (Apparently, I really like angst because her mafia series is my current favorite. Who knew?! So maybe I am a bit biased….) It also covers a really hard topic, so there were also some tears. But for some reason, I just wasn’t able to get into these two characters like I was able to in the first two books. But that’s all me. The writing is great, as you’d expect from her. And since it had been quite a while since I read book 2, I felt she did a great job giving the reader enough background of the minor characters as they appeared from the first 2 books so that if you haven’t read the first two, you aren’t going to be lost at all. There’s also the sarcastic wit we’ve come to expect and love from this author, even amidst the heavy stuff. It truly does read like an extended episode of “Friends” in the later seasons, so if you loved that show, you’ll want to read this book.

NICUnurse’s Rating: I’m going to give this story 4.5 stars. While it had all the elements of a 5 star read, I didn’t leave the story unable to stop thinking about it. However, I will still highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic comedies, with the added bonus of angst.

Second chance romances have been all the rave lately and I love them. I love seeing couples find their way back together when you know they are meant to be together. But sometimes that journey is a hard one for readers. The Bachelor Contract by Rachel Van Dyken was one of those hard journeys I devoured!

The Bachelor Contract is the third book in the series and though each story can be read as a standalone, they are interconnected stories about brothers. Here we get Brant Wellington’s story. We know from the other books that he lost his wife after tragic events tore them apart. Since then Brant has been down a very disruptive path. So, his family devises a plan to set him back on the right path.

Brant is desperately trying to forget his ex-wife, but she happens to be the love of his life as well. In attempt to put everything behind him he lets his family talk him into going back to work. He is going to spend a week observing a new hotel to ensure it is running as needed. But what he did not expect? Was that she would be there.

Nikki was devastated after all she lost and has been working on turning her life around and putting him behind her. But forgetting the love of your life is never easy. Especially when you had a front row seat to all the destruction in his path. But her heart has always been his. Even now.

I found The Bachelor Contract to be a bit on the sadder side from Rachel Van Dyken, though she also gives us the humor we are accustomed from her as well. Nikki and Brant are fighting so hard to deny what they feel, but true love is not easily pushed aside. Can they find a way to overcome their past and find a way together?

I absolutely loved Brant’s family and Nikki’s’ co-workers. Each are faithful friends and family to the very end, even as they dish out humor and honesty. I devoured this story in one sitting. There was so much push and pull between Nikki and Brant, but the chemistry and history was so much stronger. Another great story from this author.

The Bachelor Contract is a second chance story of Brant and Nikki Wellington. To say that the Bachelor Contract took me on an emotional rollercoaster is an understatement. I laughed, I cried (literally), I was frustrated by Brant and Nikki’s stubbornness, and I was writhing with anticipation waiting to find the answers to all my questions.

The story starts off with legally blind Nikki at a bachelor auction bidding on date with her ex-husband Brant at the behest of her new boss Nadine Titus. Nikki wins Brant with Nadine’s money but the date never happens. Brant refuses to meet with Nikki and keeps sending her the $25,000 she spent at the auction but Nikki just sends the check right back to him. Later Brant accepts a new job from Nadine which sends him to Azul, a resort that caters to the rich and famous, to get his take on how to make improvements. Once Brant is at Azul he discovers that his ex-wife Nikki is working there as a masseuse. Both Brant and Nikki keep telling themselves that they can remain professional, do their jobs, and move on but their powerful and passionate love, along with their painful past keeps pulling them towards each other. Can they forgive each other and themselves for not fighting for each other all those years ago?

I was so surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. This is a third person storytelling, which I don’t usually enjoy but after the first few pages it didn’t matter at all. I was so engrossed in the story and so emotionally invested into finding out the rest of the story that it felt like a first-person account. Van Dyken did a phenomenal job of making me feel what the characters were feeling, the attention to detail was superb. I absolutely loved that every chapter brought on new questions and once questions were answered there was a new question right around the corner. Each mystery of the story was solved with so much care and at the appropriate time.

While I loved the book there a couple things that didn’t jive well for me. The scene leading up to when Brant and Nikki finally meet at Azul was tense and comical (in a good way), but when it finally happened, when they finally realize they are in the same room it fell flat, it was anticlimactic. They hadn’t seen each other in 4 years and when they finally meet neither of them seem all that surprised each other is there. I would have like more of an emotional realization. Both of them should have seemed more surprised. The only other part I did not like was that the question of why Nadine Titus was so invested in Brant and Nikki reuniting was never really answered. This is the 3rd book in the series but since this can be read as a standalone then I would have expected to find out what the connection is.

One of the most impressive aspects of this novel are the sex scenes. There are a few over the course of the book, the first one was steamy, while the others that followed were more sensual and not very descriptive in the usual sense. Now, I usually do not like books with few sex scenes, short sex scenes, or mild scenes. I like them down right erotic. HOWEVER, the sex scenes in this book were written with so much emotion that I didn’t even care about the lack of eroticism.

I really enjoyed this book. The emotion, the flow, the humor, it all came together so well that I couldn’t put it down.

This is an emotional book second chance romance novel. If you are a fan of the Hit Television Show, <i>This is Us</i>, then you will most likely love this book. For me, I read to escape and do not watch <i>This is Us</i> for that emotional reason. With that said, I still enjoyed the book and my heart broke for Brant and Nikki. I just prefer my stories and main characters not to be so debilitating...

This second chance romance leaves you breathless searching for what originally ended Brant and Nikki's picture perfect happily ever after leading them to their sad present day. If you have enjoyed this thee part book series of the Wellington boys then you will really enjoy Brant's story. I am a major fan of Rachel Van Dyken's books, especially her Eagle Elite Series, and will continue to read whatever she publishes!
