I have read a fair number of romance novels in my time, but this one is by far the funniest and most entertaining!

This adult choose-your-own-adventure book will keep you occupied for ages as you star in your own story and make choice after choice to determine your literary future. Will you end up living in the Highlands, taking care of wartime orphans? Ruling society as a very rich widow? Or maybe running around the Egyptian desert with your lady love? Only you can decide!

With a choice to make at the end of every scene, there are lots of options for where the story can take you. This not only makes "My Lady's Choosing" perfect for multiple reads, but it means that every time you start from the beginning again, you could be reading a completely different story. Tongue-in-cheek romance or not though, somewhere along the way you can always count on stumbling into adventure, danger, and love (or lust) - some of the staples of any self-respecting romance novel.

So, does an unpredictable novel full of twists and turns, tough decisions, and enough secrets and intrigues to satisfy even the most gossipy of debutants appeal to you? If so, turn to Page 1.

Recently, a friend of mine and I were talking about how much fun choose your own adventure novels were when we were kids and we wondered why they weren't written for adults. When I saw a romance choose your own adventure, or interactive novel, was being published I was intrigued and more than a little curious. I am pleased to say that "My Lady's Choosing" delivered in every possible way. I had so much fun reading this and I can’t wait to go back and explore every possible storyline.
You, the reader star as the impoverished and downtrodden heroine who is forced by impecunious circumstances to act as companion to the suitably vile, Lady Craven. She forces you to attend her at a ball in a perfectly horrid mustard yellow frock at least 20 years out of date. At the ball, you meet a handful of perfectly intriguing gentleman and then your choices direct your adventures. From the slums of London to the Yorkshire moors, you choose where in the world you will travel for romance and adventure.
The heroes are wonderful caricatures of characters like Mr. Darcy, Heathcliffe and Jamie Frasier. The drama is broad and the humor is very, very tongue in cheek. I laughed quarts. If you want an authentic period piece with overtones of Austen, this might not be your cup of tea. However, if you want a delightful romp, check out “My Lady’s Choosing.” It’s absolutely delicious!

My Lady’s Choosing is a very unique reading experience and should be your next read. Overall, I really enjoyed reading My Lady’s Choosing – there were so many elements that I loved from it. I would describe this book as an entertaining read. I thought the language, historical time period, and satirical elements were a lot of fun.

I really liked the flow and length of each story. I especially loved that you can change your fate at any point in your journey. The individual storylines are quick and to the point, but that’s what I expected from a book with a Choose Your Own Adventure format. Although, there were some plot twists in each story that I didn’t see coming. I know I only skimmed the surface with the possible plots, so I’m looking forward to reading more.

My Lady’s Choosing has a diverse group of love matches to choose from. I love that there are male love matches, as well as a female one. Whether you are straight or a part of the LGBTQ+ community, there is a love match for any reader, which is totally awesome! Depending on the choices you make, you might discover other possible love matches on your quest for romance. The characters aren’t super developed, but all of the love matches are very distinguishable from one another. Due to the pace of the novel, character development wasn’t super important to me.

My expectation for this book was entertainment, and Kitty, and Larissa truly delivered. I thought a Choose Your Own Adventure novel for adults was a fantastic idea. I really enjoyed reading it, and I know other romantic saps at heart will too! I give My Lady’s Choosing 4 out of 5 stars.

For fans of historical romance, classic romance, and whimsical humor look no further than "My Lady's Choosing." It's an adult choose your own adventure with all of the familiar trappings from your favorite romances: governesses, dastardly villains, charming scholars, brooding Englishman, heiresses, orphans, jolly Scots, and all of it told as a humorous homage to a lovely genre.

Choose-your-own-adventure kind of brings to mind Goosebumps. I distinctly remember those books as a kid. I think my brother got one from the library and we ended up both reading it because how could we not, really? I think they’re the only ones I’d heard of really and then I stumbled across My Lady’s Choosing on Netgalley on Monday and the rest, as they say, was history.



This was a ridiculous book in the best kind of way. You get to star in your very own romance and you get to decide what kind of romantic adventure you’ll be going on. There's the traditional historical romance with you as the poor unassuming woman with hidden charms (everyone seems to be totally into you… I mean everyone) and you can catch the eye of the most eligible bachelor in society. Or you can travel off to the wilds of Scotland to solve a mystery and charm a brooding Scotsman. Or maybe an adventure as a ladies companion in Egypt is more your style? And let’s not forget the epic Jane Eyre style gothic romance with the dark brooding misunderstand gent living in wild Yorkshire. You really get it all and that is brilliant.



I think you can tell that both Kitty Curran and Larissa Zageris love romance. Sure, the book is a bit of a parody of romance books themselves, but it’s also a love letter to them. In a number of short stories they capture the tropes and the ridiculous story elements we all see repeatedly and roll our eyes at but also include all the thing we love. We love seeing the poor girl who is an underdog and would in reality be left with few options to choose from for her future become the master of her destiny and go off on an adventure (or several, as the case maybe).



I admit, I tried to read through as many of the adventures as I could, although I am certain I missed a few, and I found there were some I enjoyed more than others. There were some, like the gothic adventure with Lord Craven, which seemed to end far too abruptly for my liking. it felt rushed through and underdeveloped, and there were others which felt so well developed and and really showed that a well written can appear in a book which is just 300 odd pages long, you know? I think maybe that was partially me and my own romance preferences shining through, though. Sure, some of the endings were not my jam (look, that gothic story just didn’t work for me, and although there was another ending I liked I didn’t like the character I ended up with).



This is a book with an ending for (almost) anybody. like the witty banter in romance? Then Benedict Granville is for you. Like the scary misunderstood rich man? Lord Craven might be for you. Want a sexy highland romp with a Scotsman with secrets? Definitely follow Angus MacTaggart. There is even a few unexpected romances too. I quite enjoyed my adventure to Egypt with Lady Evangaline which had a couple of unexpected romances. Really, it’s a laugh and this light and fun book is a great read. Definitely the kind of book you can gift a friend who loves romance you can laugh over as you each find different endings. I am so glad I got a chance to read as I might never have found this otherwise.

A really cute and fun interactive story for romance readers. There's enough knowledge of the genre that when the book pokes fun of some of the tropes and cliches of the genre, they're amusing. It isn't a fully immersive romance, which no one should be expecting as a choose-your-own-adventure style of book, but it's fun and playful.

I originally looked up this book because of the gorgeous cover, and when I found out that it was an adult choose-your-own-adventure, I thought I was going to break my mouse requesting it. I loved choose-your-own-adventure books as a kid, and would literally spend hours going through trying to make sure I got every single possible ending. While I know I didn’t actually accomplish that with this book, I spent several hilarity-filled hours cackling my way through different plot lines.

“You arrive at Seven Dials in London, near the notorious slums of St. Giles Rookery. All around you are thieves, murderers, murderous thieves, and at least eight different people exclaiming ‘Lawks!'”

If you’re not familiar with how CYOA books work, you’re presented with a dilemma and then given a few choices at the bottom of the page, including things like “If you are now fully involved with Mac and his drenched abs of intrigue – er, his orphans – and there is no way you are leaving them, turn to page 25.” While each read-through is relatively short, the fun from these books comes from the ability to start back at the beginning and experience a completely different story. Don’t feel like helping out with war orphans? OK, let’s go to Egypt! Feeling less like Outlander and more like a gothic romance? It’s got you covered!

If you’re a fan of romance novels, especially regency romance, this is a ridiculously fun romp, with lots of tongue-in-cheek lampooning of common tropes. There’s all the familiar characters, including a Darcy-ish aristocrat, a cinnamon-roll Scottish war vet, a Byronesque madman, a spunky adventuress and a villain named Fabien de Mangepoussey. You navigate your character through various events including a ball, caber tossing, shower sex (don’t ask), birthing a foal, a house party in the country, unearthing an ancient Egyptian temple, and ever so much more. In various run throughs, I finished up the story as a English spy, the new proprietess of a classy male brothel, and the wife of an Egyptian museum curator (it was pointed out quite hilariously in this ending, that I became the friendly reoccurring side character in an series of adventure novels). For the most part, when given a choice, I went with the most ridiculous option every time (at one point, the authors called me a hussy!). Boink the dude kidnapping me as a distraction? Sure! Make love while covered in newborn horse goo? Let’s get it on!

“‘You are the charmer, and I am the snake,’ he says before filling your mouth with a kiss that makes you staring against your bindings for more. ‘But let this snake dance . . . for you.'”

I’d like to believe that the authors wrote most of this in an adult slumber party atmosphere fueled of lots of sugar and alcohol, because that’s the level of silliness you’re getting. Now, that’s not a bad thing, in my opinion – I laughed so hard I cried at various spots. The sex scenes are especially purple-prosey (“you play the most beautiful song on the bagpipes of your joined bodies”), and the dialog is witty, if flowery. And then, just when you think the puns can’t possibly get any worse, they do. Also, there’s illustrations to go along with certain pivotal scenes. While, unfortunately, the eARC I received didn’t contain all of them, the ones that were there matched the book’s tone well.

I don’t usually make recommendations as to what format you should read this book in, but at least for the eARC I read, navigating to the various choices was clunky, so I would highly recommend this as a paperback. While I think this could work very well as an ebook – I’m thinking specifically of linking each choice selection to a page, so you just have to click on it rather than laboriously finding the page, though maybe that’s just an iBooks feature and not available on other platforms – the ARC isn’t quite there, so I’d be interested in seeing how it’s handled in the final version.

I was originally going to give this 4 stars, but while editing my review I went back and read another story line, and gosh, this is probably the most fun I’ve had while reading in a while. Maybe it’s just my childhood nostalgia for this type of book, or maybe it’s just that I really needed something light and hilarious at this particular point in time, but this concept is gold and I would happily read more of them. So, five stars. If you love regency romances, you’ll almost certainly enjoy this book!

The diverse characters, humorous plot twists, and versatile story settings were undoubtably creative, and offered readers several stories within one book as it is the reader who gets to decide what happens next. Luckily, I seemed to always find a happy ending.

This choose-your-own-adventure incorporates your wildest fantasy of joining the cast of a Jane Austen book and your nagging sense of mystery and adventure. You get to be your own heroine, making your own choices and dealing with the consequences. This book is great for those who find themselves yelling at their romance novel heroines for picking the wrong guy or ending up in an unfortunate circumstance.

The journey begins in a second-person perspective walk-through of your characters and your desires. You are given the chance to get into character before making any big decisions on behalf of your new persona. This introduction was handled very well and piqued my excitement to continue through the book. You are also first introduced to several of the main characters, who may become love interests to you, should you choose them and their adventures. When first reading the book, I thought that these were the only love interests available, but going through my first read-through that proved not to be true, as I ended up somewhere completely different and with someone completely different than I had first thought I would.

I loved that the choices were made with a wit and hilarity that made the book so much more enjoyable to read. I found myself laughing and giggling at the choices and the way they were presented. The only pit-fall for me in this book was that there was no way to back-track. Losing your page is not an option because there is no “came from page so and so” at the top if you wanted to reread a section. Other than that I found it very readable and the page flipping grew my anticipation to further the story.

Another thing I was overjoyed about was the possibility of a LGBTQA+ relationship in the mix. So many stories blatantly disregard minorities and this book allows for your own sense of choice, taking into consideration that not everyone falls into the mould that victorian life perpetuates.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for something a little different as a way to spice up their reading and make their romantic hearts flutter (giggling along the way). It is a fun read that can take you 45 minutes or several days to complete. I, for one, will be going back in to see who I may end up with next time… a handsome rouge perhaps? a wealthy and witty lord?

My Lady’s Choosing is a “Choose Your Own Adventure” Regency romance for adults.

The story has four main characters in addition to “you”, a poor if relatively well-born young woman who is working as a companion to an unpleasant older woman as the novel opens. There’s Lady Evangeline Youngblood, a rather scandalous woman with a past; Sir Benedict Granville, a wealthy relative of Evangeline’s with a bit of an attitude; Captain Angus MacTaggart, an earnest and good-hearted Scottish former soldier; and Lord Garroway Craven, who can out-Byron Lord Byron himself. “Your” adventures revolve around relationships with these four characters.

The concept is clever, and I liked the idea of the book. In recent years, several adult interactive novels have been published in various genres, so why not a Regency romance? The authors draw on a number of tropes that will be familiar to readers of Regencies to construct the reader’s various paths through the novel. It also includes some amusing illustrations that add to the fun. The language is groaningly, if sometimes hilariously, over the top, but that’s probably to be expected in what is clearly meant to be a spoof of the genre.

I guess I hadn’t expected the humor to be quite so broad, though. I mean, the authors include the phrase “piercing the night like a member would a sex”. That line made me both laugh and wince, it’s so deliberately, horribly bad, and some of the scenes are a bit much as well. I wish the authors had played it just a little straighter; I think I would have enjoyed the book more.

Still, readers who loved those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books and are up for poking fun at Regency romances should give this book a try.

I was the BIGGEST fan of choose your own adventure books when I was growing up, so I was super excited about reading My Lady's Choosing! It was so much fun to be able to choose which character to fall in love with and how to handle each task at hand. The writing was fun an quirky and the characters were likable. The plot was a little short and to the point, but I think I expected that because of the nature of the book.

I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoyed choose your own adventure books growing up. Its a quick little read and one that I wouldn't mind reading again and choosing new adventures each time. Thank you for sharing this fun read with me!

I love the whole concept of this book. You get to make choices about how the story will progress and who the love interest will be. There are countless ways the story can go, with numerous decisions. On my first read through, I chose a steamy romance with the Darcy-esque Sir Benedict Granville and it did not disappoint. The second time, I chose the rugged highlander with a heart of gold. This one was good too. Then I chose the dangerous Lord Craven. And finally, I ended with Lady Evangeline. Each story is unique, and sometimes went unexpected places. It was fun to see how I could either speed up the romantic plotline, or slow it down if I wanted to tackle the mysteries. I admit that being able to choose, with numerous options, made the book feel fresh, fun, and interactive.

But what I noticed about the book is that it very much makes fun of its own genre: bodice rippers, if you will. At times I found this very entertaining, but it did get to a point where the jokes were a little too silly. It felt like the writers wanted the book to be ridiculous, and that made each decision and outcome feel a little less rewarding sometimes. I would’ve liked to see the actual prose include some better showing descriptions to really make you feel like you’re in the novel (and yes, I say that despite being able to choose your own path). It got to the point where the steamy love scenes just became silly jokes. Sadly, with each read through I did, my enjoyment dwindled.

"My Lady’s Choosing" is an fun book, no doubt about that. I enjoyed that we get to choose our own paths, and there are so many outcomes! I also appreciated the one lady love interest. But sometimes the jokes about the romance genre became a little too silly, and the writing itself leaves something to be desired. If nothing else, go into this book expecting fun and exaggerated romance.

I love the concept of this book so much. I have very fond memories of the Choose Your Own Adventure books from childhood and I love the idea of it for adults.

If you are unfamiliar with the choose your own adventure concept, it is set up so that at the end of every scene you are given a choice of how you would like to proceed (which potential suitor you’d like to meet, whether to continue a conversation or walk away, whether to stay in a situation or leave it for a new adventure, etc.) and the corresponding page number to turn to. I read through the book several times choosing different scenarios to follow and I feel like I only scratched the surface on the different possibilities.

While the concept was really fun, the plots were all pretty “trashy romance novel”-ish, which isn’t really my cup of tea. The tone was pretty tongue-in-cheek, though, which I enjoyed. I didn’t particularly like the main character, which is kind of ironic because it’s supposed to be me. Even though I got to always choose “my” path, I didn’t always like how she handled the choices.

Overall, I did enjoy My Lady’s Choosing. While the plot lines left a little to be desired, I loved the concept. I feel like I only read a few of the many possible scenarios and plan on picking it up again to try some of the other untraveled paths.

This NetGalley selection seems like an interesting twist on the traditional Regency Romance that harkens back to Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books. That is exactly what this is, short declarative 1-2 page tidbits of story and then leaps back and forth through the book depending upon your choice of actions. This could be a fun little jaunt into history that allows the reader to take daring chances and possibly end up not only ostracized by the ton, but perhaps completely ruined. The possibilities are almost endless with potentially surprising, non-traditional endings. Highly campy with hilarious naming conventions the characters are stock on steroids and much of the byplay is eye-rollingly silly. Lighthearted fun for the right mood; this book will appeal to those full of Regencies and a sense of humor.

This is fun and a little silly just like I want my romance novels to be. I definitely think it's one worth keeping, just so you can have many, many different adventures.

This is a book that is filled with twists and turns. You need to go to the bottom of the page in order to choose which story to read. If you ever wished you could change a romance this the chance.

This book brought me back to my youth and my love for the Choose Your Own Adventure books, but it was even better, because this was a regency romance and I was the main character.

From the very first page, I was totally delighted with the tone of this book. It was humorous and you could tell the author was having fun with the regency romance genre. After the adorable introduction, I got to meet all the other characters, who could pop up in the story. Curran assembled quite the cast of regency tropes, and I for one, couldn't wait to meet them.

Then it was on to decision making! At the end of the short section, there would be a set of instructions, which were quite funny. They either told me which page to go to or let me choose a path. Who doesn't like having options? I had started out sticking with one hero, but then I picked a path, which I knew would lead to meeting a different hero. I sort of love that I could change my mind and take the story in a different direction.

I went through two readings, and found both my stories quite charming. This was such a fun way to spend the afternoon. I am always up for a little silly fun, romance, and laughter.

Overall: An utterly humorous historical romp filled with possibilities.

When I first read the synopsis of this book, I was desperate to read it. I used to love choose your own adventure stories when I was a kid, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. So the fact that this book was combining an old love with a newer one I've developed for regency romance, how could I not read it? It sounded fantastic.

Well...I liked it, but I didn't love it.

One of my issues with the book--the thing that stopped me loving it--really boils down to the reason I love regency romance books. They are addictive, they sweep you up into their (usually) predicable little worlds and distract you for a few hours from anything that's going on in yours.

But this book...it didn't really have many of the qualities that makes me love regency romance. The choices and the flipping back and forth throughout the book was actually distracting and pulled me out of the story. It wasn't the kind of book I could relax and lose myself in.

The other issue I had was the writing. It wasn't my style at all. Partly because it was trying really hard to be witty and that's just not the kind of writing I like in a regency romance, but the main issue was mostly that it was written in second person.

I know that it's a choose YOUR own adventure story, but I didn't like that element. I would've rather it felt like the book version of the sims...where I'm making choices for another character and seeing how it plays out for them, but the you thing didn't allow any distance and I didn't like that (again, it kind of took me out of the story a bit -- which was odd considering the point was to place me into the story).

As for the stories themselves, the one I read was fun. Others less so (I appreciated that it included the option of a F/F romance) -- I found the Mac scenes totally grating, I couldn't finish that plot line because it irritated me (I'm Scottish, his dialogue should have felt natural for me to read but it just felt cliche and clumsy -- and it got to the point where I probably would've screamed if he said "lass" one more time).

Basically, the story did hook me in the end and there was definitely a lot to love about it, it really just was a case of the book not being my kind of thing even though in theory it should have been.

Overall, I'd rate it 3.5 stars out of 5 and I'd recommend it if you're just looking for something fun and a new way of reading regency romance.

My Lady's Choosing is a fun, romantic "choose your own adventure" read. I actually laughed at a few of the situations my heroine encountered. Because the story evolves based on the reader's choices, there are so many story options. This a book you definitely reread. I really enjoyed the book and its concept.
