If you are in the mood for a stressful, wild good chase crime story, this one is for you. The title of this novel ties in cleverly as the story takes place in the winter snow and the main crime also revolves around a plane filled with … cocaine.
This book was a quick read for me, the first from this author. I plan to read more from him.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy for review.

Normal people that make a bad decision leads to a high octane thriller that will keep you reading right up to the very end. You can see the appeal of their decision. If you were facing financial difficulties, stumbling across something that could make your problems disappear would seem like a gift from heaven. However, how would you even sell the drugs? AND.... the cartels and drug dealers NEVER forget. They would come after their missing stash in a big way. Yet, those rational decisions are forgotten when looking at the answers to your prayers. Thus begins the chase. Will the DEA, FBI, their friend or the cartel catch them first?

This story is fast paced and one that many will get sucked into and not be able to put down. It is a story that may be a bit out there, but certainly one that keeps pages turning. Grab this and it give it a read for yourself. It was not one of my top reads, but I’m sure it will be for others.

A pair of friends finding a downed plane loaded with cocooned and their attempt to keep and sell it and make huge amounts of money that they’re desperate for for various reasons. Seems far fetched, but relatively fast moving.

I did not realize this was a 2017 release, but it fits perfectly into my post on Chilling Winter Thrillers, so thanks to the publisher for sending it.

Snow reads like a screenplay with a quick set-up that is designed to set up all the twists. You can almost see how it's all going to play out.

I also found it a little similar to A Simple Plan, which also has a plot about a trio of people who find a crashed plane with bags of money (in the case of Snow, it's bricks of cocaine, which gives the title a nice double meaning.)

Thank you Netgalley for providing a copy of Snow by Mike Bond in exchange for my honest review.

The novel follows the experiences of an American journalist, Ian, who finds himself caught in the midst of a dangerous conflict as he tries to uncover the truth behind a series of brutal killings. Bond skilfully weaves together political intrigue, cultural insights, and personal struggles, making Snow a multi-layered and immersive read.

The characters in the book are well-developed and relatable, each with their own motivations and complexities. As Ian navigates the challenges of reporting in a war-torn country, readers are taken on a roller-coaster ride of emotions, ranging from tension and fear to empathy and hope.
Mike Bond's masterful storytelling and insightful commentary make this novel a must-read for fans of thrillers and those interested in the complexities of global conflicts.

This is like a nightmare story that reminds me a bit of the movie with Russell Crowe, Unhinged. Different plotlines, but in both, relatively regular people make a misguided decision that eventually leads to violence and mayhem. In this story, it's two friends--a retired NFL player and his financial manager--who find a crashed plane full of coke on an elk hunting trip in Montana. Between some bad investments and a bit of a gambling problem, both men realize that won't be able to continue their lavish lifestyles and decide to steal and sell the coke. Things go from bad to worse as chaos ensues.

It's a novel full of action from page one. I was engrossed but was a bit thrown out of the story with some unbelievable moments like one character lifting a woman out of a car after leaving the hospital with a broken arm, both radius and ulnar. I also felt the way certain characters spoke felt contrived. Overall, I'd recommend it for action- or horror-lovers as a quick and entertaining read that brings you into a part of the country you might not often see or experience.

Snow is like a cocaine fueled modern western. It all pops off when some friends out on a hunting expedition discover a crashed plane with tons and tons of Coke in it. They take the powder hoping that they could solve all their life problems with the money they could make from selling it...but is anything involving drugs ever that simple?

This is a fun one! I like that the POV shifts between characters and the writing was engaging and it moved at a good pace. I feel like this is a book that I would enjoy, but also my husband too. Great for bookclub.

3.5/5 rounded up to 4

In the heart-stopping pages of "Snow" by Mike Bond, a thrilling and enigmatic tale unfurls, shrouded in the chilling beauty of the Rocky Mountains. A serpentine manhunt ensues, starting innocently enough with the discovery of a crashed plane laden with a treacherous cargo of cocaine hidden away in the unforgiving Montana wilderness.

Amidst this frigid backdrop, three souls stand at the epicenter of the storm, each burdened with their own desperate motives. Zack, once an illustrious NFL star turned TV sports icon, teeters on the precipice of ruin, indebted to shadowy figures lurking in the glitzy enclaves of Las Vegas. On the other hand, Steve, a once successful Wall Street broker, grapples with the aftermath of a cataclysmic securities crash that swallowed both his and Zack's fortunes.

The guiding force behind this perilous escapade is Curt, a half-Cheyenne mountain man, who seeks to protect his imperiled ranch from a voracious energy company's clutches. Their paths converge at the fateful discovery, and from there, fate spins its web as they vie for control over the cocaine.

But beyond the snow-capped peaks and hidden valleys, a cast of ruthless characters enters the fray. Diego, the cold-blooded executioner, wields the cartel's deadly justice under the command of María Christina, an enigmatic mastermind hailing from Harvard and Yale. And then there's Whitney Castro, a brilliant DEA agent with a gritty past in the slums of Denver, determined to bring down the cartel and its empire.

Bounded by the unrelenting pursuit of love and freedom, the narrative thrusts us into a kaleidoscope of emotions as alliances form and shatter like ice beneath the weight of secrecy and ambition. The world of "Snow" stretches from the icy embrace of Montana to the ivory towers of Wall Street and the opulence of Vegas, an electrifying tableau of modern American culture where the ethereal line between good and evil blurs.

Amidst the flurry of action and intrigue, the characters' inner demons rise to the fore. Zack grapples with his feelings for two women, one a relic of his cocaine-fueled past, and the other a beacon of hope for redemption. Steve, on the other hand, juggles his love for his family, imprisoned by debts and desperation. Curt guides this fragile trio towards the mirage of wealth, but his heart yearns for a simple life with his wife and the salvation of his imperiled ranch.

As the forces of the drug cartel, DEA, and relentless law enforcement descend upon them like a merciless avalanche, the stakes escalate to a heart-pounding crescendo. And at the helm of this snowstorm stands Kenny Stauffenberg, the unyielding Montana sheriff, steadfast in his pursuit of justice.

With every page turned, "Snow" beckons readers into an abyss of uncertainty, where the human spirit is tested, alliances crumble, and destinies intertwine. The allure of wealth, the hunger for love, and the fight for survival collide, casting an unshakable spell that lingers.

Intrigue, passion, and suspense dance in tandem as Mike Bond masterfully paints an unforgettable portrait of a world where shadows of light and darkness merge, and the thin line between right and wrong becomes indistinguishable. Prepare to be entangled in the storm, for once you enter the world of "Snow," escape is futile.

This was a fascinating study about how two people who seemingly "had it all" could make a bad decision - followed by other bad decisions because it seemed easier than correcting course - and end up in such a mess. They are a great example of clearly flawed but basically good people doing all the wrong things. Who among us hasn't made a bad decision, resulting in negative consequences? This is that idea taken to an extreme, although it is developed in a way that makes it believable. Sometimes I read an interesting book, but it is hard to remember a week later. This one is sticking with me. Overall I found it well written and I would highly recommend it. I will be looking for more by this author.
