This book mainly focuses on blogging and websites: how to choose a host for your blog, what to write on your website, how to back up your blog etc. It touches very briefly on the subjects of Facebook and Twitter, but more in a technical kind of way.

I'm very sorry to say that I knew all the information provided already and that I haven't learned anything new. One of the reasons is, I think, that the book focusses on the more technical/basic side of things. I know how Facebook and blogs work, but was looking for tips on how to expand your fan base.

The Author's On-Line Presence: How to Find Readers by Barb Drozdowich provides some very good information for authors. The book alone was worth the list of online video tutorials she has created and almost all of them are free.
The section on websites was interesting for me as she shares information about 3 of the most used hosing providers. She also validated what I had been hearing about simple and straight forward is the new design.
The information she provides about what to have on your website was pretty basic but if you are new it would be helpful. The media page is the one most of us forget but is necessary to give people permission to share your book images to help promote them. She shares very tactical information such as font sizes, permission sentences, bio lengths, etc.
She points out that most people focus on getting comments on their blog but what you really should be aiming for is shares. You want people to share your content for increased exposure.
She got me to thinking when she mentioned backing up your blog. Many of us never think we could lose all of our content but it has happened to some authors, especially if they may consider your content questionable.

The social media platforms were interesting as she shared the quantity of users and the demographics. She shares which of them are linked to google and will help your ranking.

The book is definitely worth the money. In addition to the free content she gives you access to.

A nice basic understanding of various social media is covered by the author. The disappointing part of is almost half of the book is advertisements for other books written by the author.
