Everything changes when young Charlie goes missing, especially for Liz. She's got a secret she's hidden from everyone and now it's got to come out. A fast paced read.

Interesting psychological play about the selfishness and darkness what hides in the most of the hearts.
Yet, the execution is very slow and concentrates too much on the "emotional" state of the characters - but what starts as a realistical pain of the weak heart becomes unpleasant and too much repeated whining at the end. Also, the last chapters feel unnatural and unrealistic, as if its aim is to lessen the burden of one of the characters.
And I should think much to find such an atrocious collection of ugly characters! They are all selfish and self-absorbed and no amount of explanation can portray these egos in more favourable light. Carole comes off as the most sympathetic of them, but this is because of her suffering (otherwise she is as shallow of the others).
All in all - interesting premise, weak execution.

Talented, best-selling author Gregg Olsen focuses on two neighbor couples and their relationships after a small boy goes missing. Liz and Owen look at Carole and David and see a couple who has everything, including Charlie. Liz has an accident, Charlie vanishes, and Liz chooses to lie about it. Her lies blossom into something much bigger, and several lives are ruined.

While Olsen is a master story-teller, and is able to add building suspense to his novels, the subject matter and storyline here made me uncomfortable, and I didn’t want to continue reading after putting myself in the characters’ places. It just wasn’t enjoyable to read, and I kept putting it aside meaning to get back to it when I was in the mood. However, it seems I was never in the mood to read something that I wasn’t enjoying.

Olsen does an excellent job of developing his characters, and as they were developed, I found I wanted to put down the book and not finish. Rarely do I not finish a book that I’ve started, but this is one that put me on edge, and not in a good way. I didn’t like the characters, nor did I care what happened to them. Usually Olsen’s characters are fascinating, but in this case they are not.

Although the novel is well-written, full of suspense, and has plenty of ups and downs that keep most readers on the edge of their seats, this one didn’t do it for me. Usually a Gregg Olsen fan, I understand that everything he writes can’t all be wonderful, and this is that one. I know that the scenarios may be interesting for other thriller fans, and having read Olsen several times before and enjoyed them, I will try his next book and hope it is better than this one.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Liz and Owen seem to have it all, that is until one fateful morning. When Liz has a severe lack of judgment after a horrific accident, will her mistake cost her everything she loves?

I am usually a fan of Gregg Olsen, for his characterization and great plot lines, but I just could not get into The Last Thing She Ever Did. Mainly, it was because the characters are completely unlikable, but it was also because I found the entire story to be implausible. The level of animosity from Owen to Liz was off the charts and not in a believable way. By the end of the novel, I no longer cared about the outcome. For the reasons listed above, I would be hesitant to recommend The Last Thing She Ever Did to other readers.

I was given an opportunity by NetGalley and by Thomas & Mercer to read The Last Thing She Ever Did. It was my choice to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

The Last Thing She Ever DId by Gregg Olsen is an intriguing and frightening novel.. A young boy disappears and is thought to be killed. The family that lives next to them feels responsible and tells her husband. The work together to make certain the child is never found Suspense builds up up until the very end of the book.
Though I enjoyed the book it was difficult and painfu to read.. I felt the fear, pain and guilt ot the childd's mother and her best friend who felt responsible for the child's loss.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a review copy! I feel awful it took me so long to get through this, but the story line, as a mother, was difficult. On top of that, none of the characters were overly likable, yet I found myself wanting to see their outcomes. Overall, I enjoyed it, and the author did a great job creating unlikable participants!

Well written, suspenseful & believable! Gregg Olsen had another winner! Could not put it down- one bad decision unravels a community & makes us all question how our lives have been changed by one decision (good or bad). 100% recommendation for this book!

Thank you to Netgalley, the Publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my review based on my honest opinion.

I have read a few of this author's books and have always enjoyed them but I just could not get into this book. I found the characters were not only unlikeable but I just didn't care about them. As the story went on, I liked them even less, and found it hard to finish this book. I did finish the book, but would not recommend it. I will though read more of this author's works as I have liked all that I have read but this one so far

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC of this book. I haven't read any of Gregg's books lately, so I was pleasantly surprised that his books are still as addictive and thrilling as always.
The book grips you from the first page and doesn't let go until the very end. Recommended.

Liz was running late to take her bar exam and the unthinkable happened. She hit her best friends son with her truck and hides his body. Her husband Owen helps with the cover up. Watching Carole fall apart not knowing where her three year old is was tearing Liz apart. She wasnt the only person keeping secrets.
As things unfolded I sympathized with Carole. Not knowing what happened to Charlie on her watch and blaming herself. As mothers we can't keep a constant eye on toddlers. Liz was a weak woman in my opinion. She made me upset over and over. I didn't know for sure what she was going to do but I was tired of her pity party. The investigation wasn't as important as the rest of the story but it worked anyway.

Gregg Olsen always writes complex mysteries, usually set in the Pacific Northwest! This one was no exception. You find yourself at times sympathizing with the main character and at other times hating her. This one's set in Bend, Oregon, and reflects on other topics, such as the noveau-riche invading a humble neighborhood along a river and homophobia. It was definitely a page-turner!

The Last thing She Ever Did is an intriguing story that caught my attention right from the start. I felt a little sympathy to one of our main characters right from the start but that did not last long. In one moment things changed for our characters and it sets off a chain of such awful behavior it was hard to find any sympathy for these unlikable characters. Of course, except for Charlie.

Gregg Olsen does a great job here creating some very unlikable characters who react very badly when things start to go tragically wrong. It made for an entertaining and intriguing read. Just when you think they couldn’t react any worst .. well you need to read this one to find out.

Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and Gregg Olsen for a copy to read and review.

The bad:Horrible characters and a story that is very far-fetched. The good:You will not be able to stop reading until the very end because you must know how this crazy story ends.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer, and Gregg Olsen for the opportunity to read his latest work - I couldn't put this one down! Full of unlikeable characters, this book will grip you until its final pages.

Liz and Owen live next door to a wealthy couple, Carole & David, who moved into the Bend, Oregon, riverside community, tore down the small house, and built a huge mansion in its place. The two couples become friends and Liz loves their small boy, Charlie. When a horrible accident happens, Liz makes the beginning of many mistakes that lead to the explosion of both couples' lives.

This is a twisty tale and I don't want to say too much about it to ruin the ride. Suffice it to say that it will keep you glued to the pages. I've always been a fan of Gregg Olsen's work - both fiction and non-fiction - and this latest is wonderful!

This one wasn't exactly what I expected and I'm not sure if that turned out to be a good thing or not. It was entertaining, but the characters were not easy to relate to, which pulls me out of a story too easily. The story was a bit anxiety inducing - which was both good and bad. I didn't love it, but at the same time I enjoyed it. Very torn on this one.

This was my first book by this author and i look forward to reading more. Great page turner even though guessed how it was going to end part way through.

While I can't say I found the story to be unique and original, Olsen's use of pace and arc made this an engaging and entertaining read. The predictability was there but somehow Olsen still managed to capture my attention with his character development and execution.

I didn't like anyone in this story. I didn't like the split-second and life-altering decisions that were made. I didn't like such a simple premise.

I read this in one sitting.

I didn't look for any opportunity to do laundry or dust picture frames. I planted my backside on the sofa and with the exception of a few bathroom and coffee breaks, I read the whole thing. The writing is that good.

Not only did I not connect with anyone, I didn't like them. There was one person that I was somewhat sympathetic towards until they opened their mouth later in the story.

The split-second decision that was made, while wrong on so many levels, was believable. The author painted a situation where I could see it happening. Same for the life-altering decisions - I could totally see it happening IRL. In the hands of a lesser author, the decisions would come off as nothing more than stupid mistakes to keep the story moving.

The simple premise kept the pages turning until there were no more. Again, excellent writing.

The ending is what I have a problem with. What would I have preferred? No sé, sen̄or :) Just not what I got.

Highly recommended!

Thanks to Netgalley, Thomas & Mercer and Gregg Olsen for an electronic copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was so disappointed in this book. I’ve read books kind of like this but they could keep my interest way more. It was just not that real to me. I didn’t like anyone and had no feelings about anyone. It was to long and kept repeating things to much. Very disappointed sorry.

Received a copy from NetGalley for my honest review.

I am so over books with this plot: person accidentally kills someone, decides not to go to the police, then spends the rest of the book furtively sneaking around, acting suspiciously. I realize that if the character went to the police then there would be no story, but come on! The suspension of disbelief is just too much to bear.

Give this one a pass.
