The second in the Bone Field series, The Hanged Man is a brutal, fast paced thriller. Detective Ray Mason continues his hunt for the Bone Field murderers whilst putting his life and career on the line. Violent language and imagery mean that this is not an easy novel and readers are advised to read the first book in the series in order to make sense of the story.

A very good book and a worthy follow up to the first in the series. Simon Kernick remains one of my favourite British Authors. I wish he would bring back Dennis Milne.

I've read nearly every book from Simon Kernick, so when I saw this book, I knew what I was in for. I didn't know this book was part of a series when I started reading the book, but I have read books with the characters in previously and I have read some of his previous books out of order, so some parts of the book didn't make sense, but there is enough of the story there to make the plot make sense and it is explained well.

DI Ray Mason is working with the police force on a case referred to as The Bone Field case, he's not a very well respected member of the forced because of the methods he uses, but he produces results. PI Tina Boyd works alongside him outside of the force and is his partner. In the previous books, Tina is like a broken woman, so seeing her now in a relationship was very different!

The story keeps you guessing and hooked to find out how Ray and Tina will work together to find out the killers as the killers have both made appearances in their pasts trying to kill them as well. There are many characters in the book and they are all woven into the story well, the ending of the book wasn't how I expected it to end and left me wanting more! I am guessing that there will be another part to the series because of how the book ended.

A must read if you're a fan of thrillers and this author!

Wow - couldn’t put this one down. Enjoyed The Bone Field but this follow up is even better. Ray Mason is still trying to track down the men who were grooming and killing young women at the remote farmhouse in mid Wales. He’s back on the force but struggling not to break the rules again. Fast paced and gripping from the start - absolutely loved it.

Thanks to Netgalley, Random House and Simon Kernick for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

The Hanged Man is part two of Simon Kernicks latest series, a rather clever cross over of two of his best characters, Ray Mason and Tina Boyd. At the end of the last novel The Bone Field had been discovered, Rays attempts at saving a potential new resident of the had failed and he only just escaped a devastating fire that nearly robbed him of his own life and also destroyed evidence that could have brought the murderers to justice. Because the thing is Tina and Ray know who did this. They just can't prove it. But one man, Hugh Manning could be the key to changing that. The only problem with that is his hands are far from clean so he's on the run from both the police and the killers. Ray needs to find him and fast because he has a promise to the parents of a murdered girl to keep - and he'll do anything to keep it.

Enjoyable as always, Simon Kernick has written a fine sequel to The Bone Field. It's a little less frenetic than his previous offerings, in fact compared to something like Severed for instance it's downright slow. But slow for a Kernick book is like comparing the speed of sound to the speed of light - it's still pretty darn pacy. The ending is fantastic and left me wanting more (and wanting it now god damn it!). Simon Kernick has been a favourite of mine for a long time and this has only compounded my love and respect for his novels - simply put it's great stuff.

Action packed, fast paced thriller that left me wanting more. This book was soooo good. It gripped me from the start with its fast moving storyline and believable characters. Having worked for many years in a police force I am normally very sceptical of crime thrillers but in this case I found it did stay quite close to how things are run with of course some exaggerated parts to make the story more thrilling and more enjoyable. Certainly an author I will be reading more of.

SImon Kernick knows how to tell a tale!
this is so instantly gripping that I pretty much guaranteed you'll read it in one sitting! It carries on from The Bone Field almost seamlessly integrating into that initial story.
Fantastic!

Maverick couple Ray Mason and Tina Boyd are back in the second thrilling Bone Field trilogy. On the trial of a crucial witness who can blow open a murderous conspiracy. The story races along from a dramatic opening to a cliff-hanger conclusion with a lot of gruesome killing in-between.

I'm so grateful to Netgalley for providing me a copy with no obligation to review because otherwise I would never have discovered this fantastic series. Although I haven't read the first, there are enough details provided in the Hanged Man for this not to matter while not spoiling it so I can go back and read the first and still enjoy it.

This is one of those books that make you forget about the things you have to do because you need to read it all in one sitting. Taut and full of twists, it opens with the attempted murder/suicide of a lawyer (and his wife) who was working for a criminal gang and gets in too deep. This sets up a gripping thriller as the police race to find enough evidence to finally convict the criminals of some truly horrific murders while the criminals work to stay one step ahead - as they have done for years.

This one's in a class of its own and I can't wait to read more of Kernick's work - if it's as good as this, he's on my list of must-read authors in the future.

Another pacy page turner from Simon Kernick. The remains of unidentified women are discovered at a country house. There is a witness in hiding but a powerful network behind the murders has ears everywhere. Can Ray Mason and Tina Boyd outwit the powerful and expose the killers to justice? Kernick builds tension skillfully and drives the plot at speed. A satisfying read.

To be honest I wasn’t sure wether I would get on with this book as I’d heard it was the second book in a series, but to be honest it can be read as a stand-alone as what happens in book one is told in this novel.
Fast paced and very gripping once you start reading you will not want to put it down.
Fantastic novel.

Fantastic follow up to the The Bone Field, great continuation of the story with great characters, always feel a bit wrung out after reading a Simon Kernick as the excitement and anticipation builds up at the beginning and doesn't let go until the very end, I'm hoping there's goIng to be more with this character too, a really great read

Very good read. Great storyline and I found the characters very likeable. Despite some of the things Ray did it didn’t really make me dislike him. I did get through this quickly and found it was easy to get lost in. This is absolutely worth the read and I would recommend this to anyone.

I'm now going to read the first in this series as although I thoroughly enjoyed the book I think I would have benefited from reading the earlier novel which set the scene for what happens in this book. I think anyone who enjoys British thrillers will enjoy the book as it's fast paced with a rather unconventional policeman as the main character. His fellow investigating officer's girlfriend, a former police officer who is now a Private Investigator gives the book an edge that adds to the story. I'm waiting for the next in the series now as the ending's a real cliffhanger!

The Hanged Man had me gripped. The main character particularly is engaging. He has a traumatic history, he's a bit of a bad boy and has a precarious new relationship, all of which make him a sympathetic lead to the reader. I particularly enjoyed the partnership with Dan, more focussed and likely to do things by the book.
The plot followed the characters of Ray, the detective, his partner Tina, his detective partner Dan and the fugitive on the run, Manning. the story had a good plot, with many characters, however Kernick never lost the reader in the telling.
The ending had me thinking for a while, wondering how it could be done differently, it wasn't all happy ever after.
