This is a serious tome on the art of the rhetoric!

While it is an oldie, it still contains many useful information and techniques.
Yet, I would not recommend it as a quick reference material for someone trying to enhance his performance before this week's important presentation! (For this event my advice would be: practice before friends/mirror!). This book is for the serious users with the long-time goals.
Also, it is useful to remembet that the book was written in 1915, thus not all the informations are relevant for today's needs.
But the main points are still valid: confidence and practice. The ways to these skills may differ in the modern world, yet the basics are still the same.

Bonus: some very interesting and enriching speeches are included in the book!

A jewel to have in any library from personal to workplace. Excellent book!

Written as a course book, with step-by-step and thorough instructions. Though not the best one I've read on the subject. (That was long ago, a short book by Don Aslett, written in simple English, using humor and real situations).

This book was god awful. What century are we in and what language do we speak? I did not finish this book because the writing was so horrible. I skimmed it after the first chapter and found that although some of the content was good, the writing was as if were were living in the middle ages. The author was very condescending to the reader. I did not publish a review on my blog since I did not finish this book.

Step by step instructions to build your public speaking. It is a must read anyone who is beginning their journey or someone who wants to improve their public speaking skills! I enjoyed it, As you read, you also get to practice some of the speeches (great practice).

Last year I signed up for Toastmasters International to work on my fear of public speaking. I had no idea that the famous author Dale Carnegie had written this book until I perused NetGalley. I'm glad I found it. "The Art of Public Speaking" has a different tone than the Toastmasters manuals and other books I've read on the topic—one I found interesting because it was written during an earlier time— and it's basic and down-to-earth. I like Carnegie's writing style and his book is a useful addition to other public speaking guides.
