This was okay. Not the most exciting read. I did like the characters, though. Will try the author in the future.

I struggled to get into the book it kept jumping all over the place so I didn't find it to be an enjoyable read.

Am going back through my TBR list and was surprised that I had not reviewed this sooner. It seemed right up my street with a missing person story line.

Unfortunately I found this predictable - I worked it all out before she went missing and then I was wishing that Billy would go missing with her.

Unfortunately this was just not for me.

When Billy Orr returns home to spend time with his dying sister, he bumps into his ex-girlfriend Aimi, the love of his life. He might not have seen her in eleven years, but Billy's never forgotten her. He'd do anything for her then, and he'd do anything for her now.

When Aimi tells him that she wants to escape her abusive husband, Billy agrees to help her fake her own death. But is she still the Aimi that Billy remembers from all those years ago?

A brilliant psychological thriller with plenty of twists and turns, and I thoroughly enjoyed working out what was going on.

As much as I love thrillers, I couldn't get into this one. It jumps back and forth in time and even though the chapters were labeled with the dates it took me a while to get it straight -- and then another time and place were added. In the end, none of the characters intrigued me enough for me to really care what happened to them and the final twists did nothing to change my mind.

The plot of this sounded so promising, but for me it just didn't meet my expectations. The timeline was a bit all over the place and I found the ending quite unrealistic although predictable. Not my favourite, but not horrendous.

I am in charge of our Senior School library and now during this time of lockdown, I am looking for a diverse array of new books to furnish their shelves with and inspire our young people to read a wider and more diverse range of books as they move through the senior school. It is hard sometimes to find books that will grab the attention of young people as their time is short and we are competing against technology and online entertainments.
This was a thought-provoking and well-written read that will appeal to readers across the board. It had a really strong voice and a compelling narrative that I think would capture their attention and draw them in. It kept me engrossed and I think that it's so important that the books that we purchase for both our young people and our staff are appealing to as broad a range of readers as possible - as well as providing them with something a little 'different' that they might not have come across in school libraries before.
This was a really enjoyable read and I will definitely be purchasing a copy for school so that our young people can enjoy it for themselves. A satisfying and well-crafted read that I keep thinking about long after closing its final page - and that definitely makes it a must-buy for me!

This book was a great read! It started out with a prologue that reeled me in and got me speculating, so that’s a great start!

Billy Orr and his sister Mia have a strong relationship. They grew up very close, despite a tragic childhood trauma situation. Mia is now married and dying, so Billy goes back home to assist. And though he has a purpose for being there, he soon becomes distracted by an old love interest with an urgent need.

Things get weird pretty fast, and I liked the pace of the book. It does skip back and forth from now to a few years earlier, so much is revealed in the flashbacks.

After “Gone Girl”, I’m getting used to the time jumps in stories. And with this style of writing, G. J. Minett nails it. So much comes out! Very suspenseful book and a great twist at the end gave this book the boost to 4 stars.

Anything for Her had twists and turns and I genuinely enjoyed reading it. I felt it had the right amount of suspense, however, I didn't really find myself rooting for any of the characters.

Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

ANYTHING FOR HER a crime thriller is the third novel by G.J.Minett. His previous novels include:
THE HIDDEN LEGACY -Debut
LIE IN WAIT
ANYTHING FOR HER

This is the second novel I have read by this author, having enjoyed Lie in Wait. I plan to read his debut novel shortly.

But what was the real reason for Aimi’s disappearance?

Sometimes trusting the one you love is the wrong thing to do.
I have to say that I found it a little confusing to follow the beginning of the story, based on the author’s writing style and an abundance of characters with a shifting POV which made it difficult to follow who was who. It requires that the reader focus as the storyline switches back and forth between various time periods.

Many thanks to Bonnier Zaffre via Net Galley for providing me with a digital copy.

Thankyou to NetGalley, Bonnier Zaffre and G J Minett for the opportunity to read a copy of Anything For Her in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this book offered a good read but seemed to be lacking something.
2.5 stars from me.

Thank you to Netgalley, the Publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.

I was looking forward to this book, it sounded really suspenseful and exciting, it kind of fell flat for me. I liked the storyline idea more than the actual story. I did not find it was that suspenseful and suspected a lot of the storyline as I went along. Not a bad summer read, but kind of predictable.

Four stars from me. I enjoyed it but as others have mentioned it was, at times, a little difficult/slow. I usually enjoy a good thriller and I wouldn't class this as that - it's more of an intriguing mystery. I never really felt Billy was in danger and it didn't consequently get the heart rate going as I might have expected. Nevertheless it was written in a slightly unusual style chopping and changing between periods of time and in terms of dialogue too which was refreshing. I can see why this one has split opinion and would recommend people try it. Some will lap this up and others will be left wanting a little more, hence the 4 stars from me. I fell into the latter camp but am still very grateful for the preview copy. Thanks.

Too many story lines, plots, and roads that do not come together. I felt disconnected and had to force myself to read to the end hoping that there would be some magic moment when all came together. There was no moment.

Have you ever bumped into an old ex-flame, and wondered what if?

G. J Minett breathes fresh life into that idea with his new thriller Anything for Her. And he definitely amps it up to new heights: what if that ex-flame wanted you to stage her death? And what happens when you start to suspect that all is not as it seems- that she might, just, have tricked you?

That’s what happens to Billy Orr, who returns to his old hometown to visit his dying sister and bumps into Aimi, his old girlfriend. She’s being abused by her husband, and wants to escape. But as secrets begin to unfold, things start to get complicated- and I had to reread several pages several times in order to get everything straight in my head!

The central story itself is a good one: I loved the ambiguity of Aimi, and how cleverly Minett plays on the idea of nostalgia and the femme fatale. Their story is tightly plotted, and as things start to unfold, the sense of danger that Billy finds himself in feels very real- especially when it comes to the Vedra family, the head of whom- Jack- is written in a wonderfully menacing way.

In this way, the stakes are slowly raised, and the screw slowly turned- so that by the end you’re wondering how Billy is possibly going to find his way out. But the characters are all painted in shades of grey, too: Minett takes the time to give everybody their own voice, and that makes the story a lot more interesting, as you get to hop into the mind of everybody from the Vedras to Aimi- despite the sometimes vague language which had me confused at times.

What I was a little less keen on were all the different interlocking stories that accompanied the main one. The subplot about Billy and Mia (his sister’s) upbringing was woven through the story, but I didn’t find it relevant- and at times, it veered into the outright strange and grotesque. Similarly, I found the ending a little too melodramatic- and a little too hard to swallow, especially when it came to one particular character- for my liking, which ended the book on a slightly off note.

These are just quibbles, though. Overall, this book is an exciting, fresh look at the tangled world of ex-flames, family and even the mafia.

In three words: twisting, fast-paced, betrayal

Billy returns home from London to see his Mia, who tells her the tragic news that she is dying. Whilst on his visit he sees his first love Aimi who turns to him for help – she needs to get away from her abusive husband. She sets up a clandestine meeting and asks for his help in aiding her ‘disappearance’. Billy doesn’t need any convincing, and immediately acquiesces.

Once Aimi has fled, the real story begins. It appears that Aimi has not been entirely truthful about why she needed to leave. And also who she has enlisted to help her stay gone...

I have to admit this book was a slow burner for me. It took me a while to get into, but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Minett really fleshes out his characters, making you either love or hate them (either way be invested in their outcome!)

I loved Mia, she really brought heart to the book and her terminal prognosis saddened me. Billy was a complex guy...his childhood messed him up in a big way which has continued into his adult life.

The ending builds up to a big climax that won’t disappoint. That ending though!

The only question I have is: why would so many people do so much for a person like Aimi? She isn’t likeable, she didn’t have many redeeming features and wasn’t kind. Yet she had several men willing to risk anything for her!

I would like to thank Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.

Anything For Her by G.J. Minett was given to me by the publisher via Netgalley. Thank you to all parties involved for my arc. I am not a new comer to thrillers in fact they seem to be my book of choice lately and that might be the reason I didn’t connect well with this book. A sold 3 star it was an awesome concept. The story is simple Billy meets ex-girlfriend, Aimi after 11 years, she wants his help to disappear, away from an abusive husband. He helps and then discovers nothing is as it seems.  The pacing isn’t bad and I loved the supporting character Mia. I just needed a little something more. A big twist a bit more of an edge of my seat moment. I give this a 3 stars because I like to give new authors a chance to surprise me with the next one.
