I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, secrets, suspense, and heartbreak.

I recommend reading the below before this story
Atonement (McIntire County #1)
Born to Die (McIntire County #2)
Sins of the Father (McIntire County #3)

This is Liza and Shane’s story. Shane has a ton of secrets that he wants hidden. When there is yet another murder he wonders if he is just getting to old for all this activity in his town. When Liza comes strolling back into his town he wonders what for. He is not fond of the FBI since Boyce stirred up so much trouble. Liza has her own issues. She has secrets she does not want out and she needs to solve this case, so she can leave her job. When the case gets crazier by the day they have to wonder if they will ever solve it. But when she thinks she has it figured out the event turn, and the suspects change. There is a time when all the truths and secrets come out, but will she live to have justice? Or will one wrong move cost her everything? Do Shane and Liza have a future or will he walk away from her because he thinks she needs it?

I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

This is the fourth book in the series and after reading it I am sorry that I missed the first three. It opens with the sheriff Shane dealing with turning fifty and an anniversary of a life altering event in his life. This is explained throughout the story. His reflection is interrupted because of a murder and his presence is needed. And so begins this suspense, and mystery story. When FBI agent Liza Bartholomew arrives at his office he feels his case being pulled away. Instead they work together and Liza finds herself attracted to a fifty year old pop tart eating sheriff who has secrets she wants to know. He finds himself jealous at least he thinks that is what that feeling is because he has not had that feeling in decades. Now putting those feelings aside they must work the case and find out who are killing these people before the next person is killed. A story of twists and turns and one I must say had me up until the end. A very good story that will keep you at the edge of your seat until the end. As for the story between the two lead characters, you have to get to the end of the book to find out what happens. Overall a wonderful book, with very good characters.

It's been awhile where I've across a really could murder/mystery/romance. Not having read the first three books in the series I had a bit of trepidation about coming into it so late in the game. As I found out quite quickly, once I started reading, my hesitations were unfounded. The author made it quite easy to get up to speed on all the players in the series.

The story itself was masterful in taking you on a twisting, turning roller coaster of a ride from the onset. With all the surprises along the way, I still did not see the ending coming. Gotta love an author who can completely blindside you with the totally unexpected.

I truly enjoyed the characters, each in their own flawed way made for a much more interesting storyline. Having the backgrounds that Shane and Liza did, brought more believability to their driven personalities. As the story unfolded, their growing relationship was the perfect foil to the intenseness of the intrigue and tension of the murders and subsequent fallout. The story ending was perfect in tying up loose ends, yet leaving the door open for more from the characters and the series.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
