Wow I honestly think this book is going to leave me with a book hangover. It's sick and twisted with sprinkles of genius. When you think you have willed the underdog fight their way to another comeback the rug gets pulled back from under their feet. I honestly couldn't decide if I loved or despised the main character . It is so hard to review this book without adding spoilers so I shall just say that it is absolutely brilliant and so cleverly written. A must read

John Marrs - WOW!

If you are looking for a disturbing, fast paced psychological thriller with damaged characters, that will send shivers down your spine and make your heart beat just that little bit faster then look no further.

Highly recommended and an easy 5 stars!

Having read an earlier book by the author, When You Disappeared, I had high hopes for this one. And I wasn't disappointed. John Marrs has written another taut, twisting tale centring on Laura, a staff member at a charity to support people on the brink of suicide. Except, Laura has her own special agenda and nothing and no-one will get in the way of her plans. Or is the master manipulator destined to meet her match?
In many ways, I preferred The Good Samaritan. The plot is complex but relies much less on credulity-stretching plot devices than his previous novel. The narrative flows easily and there are plenty of jaw-dropping moments to keep you engaged until the final page. A first-rate read.

John Marrs has done it again! He never ceases to amaze me with his writing style. After reading so many thrillers , you know what’s coming but this book just blows you away. It actually frightened me and I have never hated a character as much as I hate ‘Laura’. Well done Mr Marrs.. I only wish it had continued for a little longer!

This is the 4th book I’ve read by John Marrs and those eagle eyed readers will notice that it’s the 3rd book I have a cameo part in and a lovely mention in the acknowledgements. I was asked to read this book months ago before the editing and proof readers had been through it, but I declined because if I’m honest I love John’s stories so much I wanted to wait for the final version and enjoy it like any other reader would.

Boy am I glad I waited. The Good Samaritan has all the trademarks of a “Marrs Novel”, disturbed psychopaths, intricately woven plotlines, clever character development and twists by the bucket load.

It takes a talented author to bring such damaged characters to life and then to get the reader to feel empathy towards them and this is something John Marrs has a knack for. My sympathy and emotions for the two main characters were alternating back and forth so much I actually felt giddy.

In my opinion this is another superb 5 star book written by a truly talented author who I also have the honour of calling my friend.
