I've been reading this author for years now. Her devotions feel like she's sitting beside me, offering words of wisdom and encouragement. I see she has a new book coming soon on being a grandmother. I can't wait to read that as well. I purchased this book for many friends.

I have been a huge fan of Shellie Rushing Tomlinson ever since I read her book Heart Wide Open several years ago, and I discovered her Love for Jesus sprinkled in with her Southern hospitality & humor! So, when I was offered a copy of Devotions For The Hungry Heart to review I literally jumped for joy at the opportunity!

Once again Miss Shellie - AKA "Belle of All Things Southern" nails it! She combines her funny true stories with her passionate desire to be Christlike in her Hungry Heart every day walk with Jesus.

I love how the devotion for every day of the week is something different: Surrendered, Intentional, Praying, Celebrating, Needy, & Sharing, and of course because of Shellie's Southern Hospitality she has shared some of her wonderful, scrumptious, Southern recipes right from one of her other books Hungry Is A Mighty Fine Sauce.

I absolutely adored this book, and I look forward to seeing what Shellie will be cooking up next!

Shellie Rushing Tomlinson’s book. Devotions for the Hungry Heart: Chasing Jesus Six Days from Sunday, is a delightful devotional.

The book features 20 weeks running Monday through Saturday. Each week has a personal anecdote to illustrate each of the days with Monday being titled-A Hungry Heart Is Surrendered, Tuesday-A Hungry Heart Is Intentional, Wednesday-A Hungry Heart Is Praying, Thursday-A Hungry Heart Is Celebrating, Friday-A Hungry Heart Is Needy and Saturday-A Hungry Heart Is Sharing. Every devotional is short, only 1 to 1 ½ pages and ends with a Bible verse. Also, included in the middle section is a short, colorfully illustrated set of recipes.

I enjoyed reading Devotions for the Hungry Heart. However, there are 4 caveats: 1) the pages are not a pure white, but more of a dusky color, 2) the color of the text is a blue-green color (almost a turquoise or teal), 3) the verse at the end the day’s devotion is a golden or gilded color and 4) this is not an in-depth study, but more of an ending for your daily devotional. The first three things make it a little difficult to read. Nonetheless, it is well worth the effort.

Tomlinson writes in a folksy, sharing a cup of coffee kind of way that I enjoyed. I am sure she would attribute it to her Southern roots, as she does for many aspects of the book. Her stories made me wish I knew her or that she was a neighbor of mine.

I received this book from Barbour Publishing and NetGalley. However, I was under no obligation to post a review.

Shellie Rushing Tomlinson shares an engaging devotional with readers in Devotions for the Hungry Heart. Her hope in writing these daily devotional passages is that the reader would find the Christian experience to be fulfilling--an experience that God offers to all. Each of the twenty weeks covers six (Monday through Saturday) different subjects regarding the hungry (for God) heart--one that is surrendered, intentional, praying, celebrating, needy, and sharing. Each day has a Bible verse that relates to the daily devotional and occasionally there are pictures with encouraging sayings placed through the book. The book itself is beautiful with teal and gold coloring on the hardback cover and inside as well with the typeface and pictures being printed in those colors. As a special treat, in the center of the book are several full-color glossy pages with some of Shellie's personal recipes. These quick to read devotionals come from Shellie's heart and reading them seems like a face to face chat with a friend. It is a lovely book for personal use or for giving as a gift to a friend.

Delighted with Hungry is a Mighty Fine Sauce, I was very excited to learn of Shellie Rushing Tomlinson’s upcoming release, Devotions for the Hungry Heart. In fact, I loved the cookbook so much, I gave away 3 copies as gifts!

Devotions for the Hungry Heart is true to Shellie’s warm and comforting southern style; a style that makes one feel as if she is sitting at your kitchen table, with a cup of hot tea, lovingly encouraging you to be hungry, hungry for God.

Sharing anecdotes from her own life, sometimes humorous, that encourages me to direct my hunger for Him through prayer; intentionality; surrender, and celebration. I found myself eagerly reading day after day of devotions, feeling loved and encouraged by the author, and most importantly, wrapped in the love of my Heavenly Father.

Devotionals are a must have for any Christian and I believe non-Christians should even own a devotional or two. This is a thought provoking devotional that really focuses on your heart and relationship with Jesus (and God). I enjoyed using this propel me into my Bible studies.

What is your heart hungry for?
I sat down thinking I would read through a few of these devotionals and skim through the book. Before I knew it I had read about 75 percent of the book.
If you are on the hunt for a gentle, sweet devotional this is for you. This will give you a heartwarming story, related to what a Hungry heart is. Like A Hungry Heart is Sharing, A Hungry Heart is Needy, or A Hungry Heart is Surrendered.
The beauty of this devotional is in the art of a good Southern Storyteller. You get a lesson each day hidden in the middle of a story that draws you in and you just want to keep reading.

I really enjoy that it is laid out based on days of the week but not dated so you can start anytime. Really good book and certainly a great devotional to keep with your Bible. Some days I just don't want to dive into a Bible study. Some days my heart is hungry for something gentle that will entertain me in a way but still leave me with scripture and truth to ponder as I go about my day. This devotional is perfect for that!
