This was a page turning read that kept me riveted. I will be recommending this title to customers at the store who love thrillers. Great book!! Strong characters, dialog and plot. Loved!

If you are expecting this story to be anything like the Original Sinners series, you would be wrong. It's not even close. What it is is a mystery. Family secrets, history, trauma, and some love. It was not what I was expecting at all, and after I finished, I had to sit with it for a while to digest it.

The synopsis does the story justice. It has some slow parts, some sweet parts, and lots of secrets that come out of the closet. I wasn't all that thrilled with the ending, but I'm still happy I read it. It is unique in its storyline. And being that I read the ARC, some things may have changed for the final draft, so I would happily read it again.

I really enjoyed this book. Engaging characters and well written mystery. Really did not know what to think about his ultimate goal but it was an interesting way of dealing with the problems

Oh The mind is such a wonderful thing to play with.
Ms. Reisz she knows just how to push and pull . You really don’t know what to expect , you start with thinking one way and BOOM another little Discovery . Well buckle up it’s a rocky road to uncover ones past sometimes things are better left buried? This is twisty and the revelations that are coming are not what you think. Mind BLOWN. This is what you want when reading . Feed me the mystery I love it , devour it. I’m not going to repeat the plot , I won’t tell you all the details you can read the blurb. Angst, mystery and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.

This is my first book by author Tiffany Reisz, but our blog is a HUGE fan of her writing and has reviewed almost all of her books.

Unfortunately this book just wasn't for me and I ended up skimming through most of it to get to the end.

The Lucky Ones is a really great read. It tells the lives of children no one wanted, but Dr. Capello, a brain surgeon, and a philanthropist who adopted 7 children after he performed surgery on them. The youngest girl Allison was chosen by him, as her mother had died and she was sent to a home that had teenage girls that were mean to her, so Dr. Capello took one look at her and brought her home with him to his house along the Oregon coast which was named The Dragon. She was only 7 years old.

When she was 12, something happened to her and she could not remember, just that her Aunt came to the hospital and picked her up to go home with her, as she was forewarned by someone that Dr. Capello's house had someone in it that was trying to kill Allison.

Allison dearly loved Dr. Capella for the five years she was there along with Roland, his son who took care of Allison and loved her as much as brothers and sisters can love each other. There were also other children that came and went but Roland, Allison, and the twins as they were called were always there.

Fast forward to 13 years and there have been a lot of changes and Roland sends her a letter to let her know their Dad is dying. Roland wants her to come to see him as he has weeks left, if that. So she decides to go. When she gets there the only one there is Roland, who is chopping wood. In recent years he had gone into a monastery and took his vows there. Roland has come home to care for his Dr. Capello, as he does not want to die in the hospital. They took one look at each other and time falls away and it's like they never parted.

This book is almost gothic like in the mystery and secrets that are being kept in the houses by everyone, everything is not as it seems, and it causes Allison to try to piece together what had happened to her personally all those years ago. As she enlarges her search to what happened to four of the children other than Roland and Deacon and Thora- the twins, as they look alike but really are not related at all, she will find out something that will shock her, make her sad, and ultimately she will confront Dr. Capello about what she finds out.

This book had a lot of angst, secrets, mysteries and even love, but bad secrets have a way of coming out and this book was brilliantly written.

I gave this book 5***** stars and it really deserves more- it is a really good book and I am so glad I was able to get an advanced reader's copy from NetGalley!

This was my first book by this author. There were a few things that made me uncomfortable - (view spoiler). I was engaged in the story and had to discover if I was correct. It really brought new ideas to what it means to be a family. What exactly constitutes a family? Do bonds go beyond blood, time and location? It also looked at the origin of evil that resides in a human. I love books that probe for deeper truths. This book offered a lot of brain feed for me.

Holy heck!!!! The Lucky Ones could quite possible be my favorite Tiffany Reisz book to date and believe that is huge because ALL her books have been 5 star reads for me! From the amazing book cover and intriguing synopsis, I knew I had to dive into this novel ASAP and once I started, I truly did’t stop until it was finished. Ooooh my, this book had everything from romance to nail biting suspense (and everything in between). I love reading Tiffany Reisz novels because she always has a fantastic way of intricately unfolding the storyline and totally immersing the reader into the characters lives. The twists and turns had my jaw dropping which is the reason I found this book so addictive. I don’t want to give any details about the plot, but trust me when I say The Lucky Ones is a 5++++ star read that you will not want to miss!!! The Lucky Ones is absolutely at the top of my 2018 favorites list! Go check it out (you will definitely thank me later 😉)!

The children were orphaned or just unwanted when they were adopted by brain surgeon Vincent Capello. They considered themselves the luckiest kids on the planet, all seven of them, living in Capello’s otherworldly beach house on the coast of Oregon. Allison was the last to be adopted, and she lived a fairy tale life until she nearly died. That was the last she saw of Capello and the rest of her new “family” until thirteen years later, when she gets a call from Capello’s son, who tells her his father is dying. Allison wants to say goodbye, and also try to figure out what really happened to her the night she nearly died – even if she dreads the answers. Reisz builds the tension in this story with such skill that I couldn’t put the book down.
