I just love fantasy novels. I love everything about the characters, reading about Dragons, Druids, Fae and Mortals is just my cup of tea. After I started reading I saw that Heat was the 12th book in the series, I read it as a standalone and it did not disappoint, it did not feel as if I missed something. This was my first Donna Grant book and certainly not my last, I will have to start reading this series from the start at some time. I loved the characters and how they related to each other as well as the writing style.

Yes!! The pieces are falling into place. Things are going in the direction *I* want them going into. All is well in the world. But I sense much heartbreak coming up and that is not well. But it must happen. It’s darkest before the dawn, and all that.

So many discoveries. So many answers. BUT there’s still a few questions I have. So I’ll be waiting patiently.

I’m quite excited to see that Esther play a bigger roll than I ever thought she would. It should be interesting how she grows into that roll. I won’t say anything else. SPOILERS. *said in River Song’s voice*

Seeing Ulrick’s pov is rather exciting. There is definitely more to him than he was letting on. I can’t WAIT to read his book.

I was intrigued by the premise of the story, but found the world-building lacking any depth. The story is mostly conveyed by dialogues which I find not only unnerving, but dull at some point. There was really no easing into the topic or the before story and names were thrown around at random at the first couple of pages. I would have expected more, to be sure. On the other hand, I might be a bit harsh in my disappointment and I would recommend giving this book a try either way. One opinion is not what matters as a whole. GIve it a chance and see how YOU like it.

DNF. While I have enjoyed other novels by this author, this book did not resonate on any level with me. I found it slow and boring. While I truly tried to finish it as it was an ARC, I could not stay with the story of the Dragon Kings. The mystery of the druid, nor the non existent "heat" between them, could make me finish it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley.

What can you do when you can’t remember what’s happened to you, you seek help of course. Can Nikolai a dragon shifter help her solve her problems before it’s to late. Danger is near and are they going to solve the mystery that’s surrounding them. I have read Donna Grant books before and she is still one of my favorite author. heat keeps you want to read more from her dragon world. I hope she writes more about them.

This is the first book in this series I have read. That might have been a bit of a mistake as there are quite a few references to other characters and events that didn't make much sense to me. However, that said, I still enjoyed the book. The characters were well developed, the dialogue flowed and I felt the connection between the two characters. I enjoyed the book enough to now find the others!

12 books into the Dragon King series we are kind of in an action slump. We haven't seen much shifting or even fighting like we did in the way beginning. This one is no different but it seems to suit the Dragon King in this one.

Nikolai is what you might call an artsy man. He's quiet yet intuitive. Silent but of course strong. A lover more than a fighter maybe... So it's quite interesting to see a character who is so very different from the others but the same in his core. He wants what the others do. He is one of those stoic characters who wants to be a part of the world but his powers hold him back slightly. So when he sees Esther needs his help he jumps on it. Doesn't hurt that she is his mate but he sees something in her that he wants her to see as well.

Esther had a druid in her mind and it has been killing her to know that fact but not have any memories. She is driven to find the truth but she finds so much more than that. She grows so much as a person in this book that she just sort of blossoms into a newer version of herself. From being uncertain to someone who is ready to take on the world.

So while there might not be action on their part there is definitely some action among the Fae! We're nearing the end of this series so I'm glad to finally see some things being taken care of in the way of those nasty questions we readers like to spring up (still no word on Rhi's king). This was a pretty exciting book in the side stories more so than the main characters. They didn't pull me in like most others. But the way this ended!? Good God, there's going to be something wicked coming our way!!

This is not a standalone book. I would highly recommend reading this whole series. This is Nikolai and Esther's story. We do find out some interesting things in this book. We always find out answers to some of our questions whenever Donna comes out with a new book in this series. We also start asking many more questions but that's what makes reading this books so great. Someone who should have died awhile ago finally does. What is Con upto? It was great seeing some of the Warriors and Druids in this book (I miss them). It is always great to be able to read these books early but then it feels like I have to wait long for the next book, lol.

I am not familiar with this author but I really liked the story. Donna Grant has created a really unique world complete with Fae, Druids, and dragons. While I don't think I needed to read the series to enjoy this book, I am sure the experience would have been enhanced if I had. Esther is struggling to deal with the aftermath of having her mind violated by the Druid. She's strong, independent and more than capable of handling herself which makes her falling in love all the more sweet. Nikolai, a dragon king, has a very unique ability and he is more than Esther's match. I hope to start the series from the beginning so that I'm sure to not miss how all the characters are connected.

Heat by Donna Grant is the twelfth book in the Dark King series.

Before I go into my review, I highly recommend reading the other books in the series before reading Heat. It will give a better understanding of the world Grant has built.

In the beginning I did struggle to see just how Nikolai and Esther's story would unfold, thinking these two were incompatible..... and boy I WAS WRONG! Nik kept to himself most of the time, quite, broody, and alpha to the very core. It is always the quite one's you have to watch out for.

Nik's fierce protectiveness over Esther, doing what ever he can to keep her safe by any means necessary. Heat is filled with action, suspense, and a whirl wind romance that will blow your mind.

I'm always so excited to get the next Dragon Kings book and Heat was no exception. Truth be told, I am always excited to get any Donna Grant book. I loved Nikolai and Esther, just like I've loved all the couples. I love the over-arching storyline and always enjoy seeing Rhi! Can't wait to see what happens next in Grant's Dark World.

This one is the latest in the Dragon Kings series and has plenty of action and romance.  Donna Grant integrates the story of her main couple, spinning steamy scenes and battles with equal skill and continues to build on the multiple crossover series of the world she created while still keeping all the characters interesting and integral to the overall mysteries.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my ow

This story is about Dragon King Nicolai and Esther, a human. Esther is an agent for MI5 and she and her brother Henry live and work with the Dragon Kings. They are one of the few humans who know of their existence.

Out on a mission, a part of Esther's memories was taken by a Druid. What did she see? What does she know? Esther feels she must look for the Druid and try to get her memories back. She feels lost and un-whole. She isn't even sure if the memories she has are in the correct sequence...

There has always been an attraction between Nik and Esther but Esther feels she cannot even think about it until she has her memories back and Nik understands her feelings. They embark to London to try and piece together Esther's last days to see if they can find the druid. Nikolai has a special talent as a Dragon King. He can sketch memories and dreams that come to him and that could really help Esther. Plus Nikolai won't leave her safety to anyone else. Questions also come up about Esther and her brother's parentage.

The Druid is basically being blackmailed to do as she has done by a man who wants to be the King of Dragon Kings, an evil, evil man.

Can Nikolai and Esther find the Druid and her memories? Can they truly find out who is the one spreading all the turmoil?

After I started reading the book, I remembered I had read another book or 2 from the series and I do enjoy the author's writing. A time or 2 I was a bit confused but it did clear up for me. At first I felt like there was a lot going on but now I feel like I just had to adjust to the characters and their heritage. Not only do you have the Dragon Kings and the humans, you also have the Dark (evil) and Light (not evil) Fae nd the Druids of course.

I think I need to start getting caught up on this series...oh, without giving anything away...I hope that Pub owner in London got some answers on his lost love...

Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to enjoy Donna Grant's book # 12 - Heat. I'm definitely giving this book five stars. I loved the interactions between the all the characters and there are a lot of characters at this point. We first got a glimpse of Nikolai in Blaze and I'm glad he has his own story and HEA with Esther. (Now I'm hoping that her brother will also get his own HEA even if it's not in his own book..and maybe with a Fae..) The plot thickens now with Dragons, Faes, Druids, Warriors, TruthSeeker & JusticeBringer. Now I want to know more about the last two and did they really wipe out the entire family.
I'm still crossing my fingers that Rhi's Dragon King is Con but deep in my mind it's telling me that that is probably not true. Although Ms. Grant is very slick in her wording and I really thought Con was her man for about a good two seconds lol. I need more clues as to who this King is!

Having read all the books in Donna Grant’s Dark World to date, I was thrilled to get an ARC copy from NetGalley of "Heat", the next upcoming book in her Dragon Kings series.

"Heat" continues the story of Nikolai and Esther whose attraction first began in "Blaze". Together they are determined to locate the Druid who infiltrated Esther’s mind and stole some of her memories. As the story progresses, we learn a lot more about Ulrik through Nikolai’s memories about his past relationship with Ulrik. From those memories as well as Nikolai’s present-day interactions with Ulrik, there are many unsettling questions about what the Dragon Kings can expect from Ulrik, both good and bad. While all this is going on, Rhi and Balladyn’s relationship is tested by some unexpected events and this may well alter the dynamics between the Dragon Kings and the Fae.

Tensions among all the parties keep building. Asher sums up the situation very nicely when he says,

“MI5 has been taken care of for the moment…But that still leaves our spy, (view spoiler), the Dark, Ulrik – or Mikkel, or both – the Reapers, Usaeil, the mortals – particularly the one you have in the dungeon – no’ to mention the wooden dragon and the magic mixed up in that. And lest we forget, the Druid who continues to wreak havoc among us.”

Throw Rhi and Balladyn into the mix, Usaeil’s treachery, and the newest developments with Esther and her brother, Henry, and there is much that is left unresolved.

"Heat" ends on a most ominous note - (view spoiler) And then there are those cliffhangers at the end: (view spoiler)

The world of the Dragon Kings is constantly changing and the tension keeps building. Even knowing that there is so much more to come before the final battle, I feel the series moves at a pace that keeps flowing and keeps my interest throughout. I can’t wait for the next books in this series as well as the interrelated Reapers series to learn what happens next.

Another FANTASTIC addition to the Dragon Kings series. I loved the story in this book and loved the way it fit in to the series as a whole. Still waiting for Rhi's King to be named :)

Book 12 in the Dark King series, I thought Heat was a great read! I loved Nikolai and Esther and thought their romance was beautifully done! I enjoyed how most of the story was focused on these two and their romance, with side pockets of other characters peppering the pages just enough to move the overall plot along. Ulrik, Con, and Rhi, encounter surprising changes of their own-some good, some bad-while Esther and her brother, Henry have a shock of their own.

I’ve read this series off and on over the years and was able to jump back in with Blaze (book 11) with no problems. In Heat, the romance was spot on and the supporting cast was great! I liked the plot twists and am excited to see what’s in store for the Dragon Kings next!
