Heartbreaking story about loss and finding love again years later. I loved Mac and Delaney together. I didn't read the first book, so had to do some catching up, but I really enjoyed this book.

15 years ago, a tragedy torned Mac and Delaney apart. She needs to forget about him and move on and he keeps hoping for her to give him another while knowing he's to blame. But when Delaney is danger, Mac is the first person she calls.

This is the kind of book that makes you want to hug the characters and tell them everything will be alright. I understood where each caracther was coming from with their pain and doubts and I couldn't blame them or get impatient. They have gone through so much they needed to move at their own time and the pace was perfect for the story.

Mac is such an amazing guy. Strong and determined. Super sexy and caring. He would do anything for Delaney. Even when she doesn't want help, he puts her over everything else, including his work. But he never treats her as a damsel in distress he makes sure she has ways of protecting herself.

Delaney is my kind of heroine. She needs no one, she knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it and honestly? her job as a reporter is something i always looked up to so she gets bonus points for that. Delaney is also the biggest issue in her and Mac relationship, because she's not ready to let the past go and won't let herself to see where they could go.

Final Siege is a great combination of second chance love, drama and action. Delaney's life is in danger but so is her heart and in the middle of finding out who wants her dead, she and Mac need to figure out what is left of their relationship and if they can continue.
The chemestry between Mac and Delaney is still there, palpable but their heads aren't. Reading their story was a great experience and I can't wait to see more about the men at Eagle Securities.

1.5*

I made it through FINAL SIEGE, my first Scarlett Cole novel… but I can’t say I much enjoyed the experience. Shoddy editing aside, it’s hard for me to get into a novel when I find the hero and heroine so juvenile and the reason behind their estrangement so… inane. Couple that with the unevenness of the story and plodding pace for a romantic suspense novel and you end up with a lacklustre read. I’ll look elsewhere for my RS kicks.

Mac got a phone call in the middle of a celebration that stopped his world from turning. The only woman he had ever loved needed him. Rushing to her side he finally came face to face with his past and hoped he could look at everyday in the future. Delaney is not too willing to hear about the past but each day with Mac her resolve starts to fade away towards seeking a brighter future.

This is the first book that I’ve read by Scarlett Cole and I have to day I thoroughly enjoyed it and I love the cover!!

The book is set at a great pace and I loved the main characters. The plot is well planned and the writing style is great, it is as very easy read.

This is the second book and I haven’t read the first and I do think that put me at as slight disadvantage as the story runs straight on but there is enough detail about what happened to still make it a very enjoyable read. I’ll be reading the first one at as later date now to see what I missed!

Four stars from me for this one, highly recommended!!

A tragedy separated them fourteen years ago, now they have a second but is it too late. Final Siege is an enjoyable second chance romance. I liked the characters and the storyline and would recommend to readers.

Mac and Delaney grew up together until the point where she transitioned from the tag along little sister of his best friend to the love of his life. Unfortunately the death of her brother caused an irreparable rip between them. For years, Delaney has hated Mac, but suddenly he gets a call that she needs him. He never stopped loving her, and he drops everything to get to her. She doesn't want his help and tries to convince him she can handle herself and is not his responsibility. I do have to admit that I wasn't a big fan of her at first because I didn't want to see Mac treated badly after I loved him from book one in this series. This story focuses on how they work through their issues in the midst of trying to keep Delaney safe from same of the same people who came after Lou in the last book. It has the typical Scarlett Cole suspense mixed with steamy hot romance.

Net Galley provided an ARC for honest review.

Suspense and drama in perfect proportions, shared history of romance and tragedy, but when she needs him, he comes running. Mac and Delaney were a great pair in the face of danger and chemistry galore.

I have been a fan of Scarlett Cole's since I picked up her first book The Strongest Steel back in 2015, each of her books have been four or five star reads for me and this while this story wasn't a five star it definitely gets four Love Over Duty stars.

There are a few things I loved about this book first and foremost is that while Delaney and Malachai haven't seen one another in fourteen years they have never really moved on so when Delaney finds herself in some trouble the person she calls for help is Mac and he runs to be by her side. I love a good second chance at love story and this is exactly what you have here, what makes it even better is that Delaney holds onto her conviction on why they separated all those years ago and doesn't just fall back into things with Mac....he definitely has to work for it.

The only thing that held me back from giving this five stars is silly really now that I am thinking about it, but, it bothered me that Delaney would get close to Mac only to shut him down again and again I understand she was having an internal war but Mac asked her to let him explain things and she didn't want to hear it if she had maybe things would have happened quicker for them. For a tough investigative journalist that needs to find the answers before she can report it she doesn't do that in her own life? It sort of threw me off a bit and really annoyed me, if you can be tough in your job pull up your big girl panties and be strong for yourself in your own life.

There is much more than going on than just the two of them finding their way back to one another, Delaney is an investigative journalist and apparently she has uncovered something that someone wants to stay hidden. With Delaney's life in danger we get to see how the men of Eagle Securities takes care of one of their own.....watch out bad guys because you are not going to like what happens to you if you mess with one of their women!

Final Siege is the second book in the Love Over Duty series and it can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend the first book Under Fire. Cabe's story is due out in July and I cannot wait to see how things work out for him in Deep Cover, Cabe has been in a somber mood since the death of his fiancée so I am really pulling for him to get the perfect woman for him.

Final Siege is book 2 in Scarlett Cole's Love Over Duty series. Mac is a former Navy SEAL and now Co-owner in Eagle Securities. He is shocked when out of the blue he is called by a nurse saying that the one woman he has ever loved is asking for him since she has hated him for the last 14 years.

This relationship is full of angst and anger. Not to mention the suspense and passion. I will admit I was highly frustrated with Delaney. She just made some really dumb choices. I get wanting to advance a career and do right. But when you have no regard for personal safety it was just aggravating. So I had a hard time with this one. The book was seriously well written I just wanted to strangle Delaney's neck a lot. Mac and ALL of the guys are every woman's wet dream. I want a harem of these guys at my disposal, seriously. They had the alpha bad boy, joker, serious, studious nerd and protectors all down pat. I look forward to more books and see what all these guys get into. The book does entertain and I didn't put it down. I wanted to see where it was going.

Unfortunately, it's a DNF at chapter seven, 44%.

It hurt to do so, but sometimes, a story, a book just doesn't do it for you, no matter how much you loved an author's previous books or her writing style.

Having loved book one in the Love Over Duty series, Under Fire, of course I wanted to read this one.

But somehow, this one wasn't as good. In fact, it felt really slow, and similar to the author's previous release, Nikan Rebuilt. Both second chance romance, both had the heroes bending over backwards to get back with the heroines, whereas the heroines were the total opposites. In fact, Delaney annoyed the hell out of me and poor Mac was better off without her.

Another issue of mine was how suddenly the POVs changed, no warning. Maybe that was a formatting error and only in the ARC, but it was distracting and confusing.

All in all, this shall remain an unfinished read, but this doesn't mean I'm giving up on this author because I see this as a bump in the road, and while I didn't manage to finish it, others may love it.

I voluntarily agreed to read an early copy of this book and the rating is my standard DNF, 2 stars rating.

I’m in love. Mac is my new book boyfriend, and I’m not giving him back! You gotta love a man who knows what he wants and does everything in his power to get it. *Swoons* But there’s tons of history there and somehow Mac and Delaney have to wade through it all and hopefully come out on the other side unscathed. Cole hinted at this story in the first novel of the Love Over Duty series. Based on the few hints of background we got in that novel, I was excited to read Final Siege, and I wasn’t disappointed! I didn’t love Delaney, but I liked her well enough. She seemed at times childish to me, but, then again, I’m an old lady compared to her. *Sighs*

Although I loved the story and recommend it to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense, I’m giving an overall rating of four stars. The abrupt changes of scene mid-chapter were jarring. I also thought the big secret wasn’t the big deal it was built up to be. I could overlook those aspects, but I’m a stickler for detail and a few of the military aspects were unrealistic.

I've loved everything that Scarlett Cole has given us since the first tattoo hottie in the Second Circle series.  She does such a fantastic job of creating sexy, take-charge men with big hearts and a ton of understanding.  It doesn't matter what situation they find themselves in, they will do their best to do what they think is right.  And, of course, Mac is no different.

He's been carrying around a big regret for years and he finally might get his change to set things right.  Of course, it's not going to be easy and there is a lot of turmoil before he can set things right with Delaney.  But they have a connection that has managed to last through time and heart-break so if they can manage to put the past to rest it will be worth it.

Delaney has come a long way from the girl she used to be, but she's never gotten over Mac or his role in her brother's death.  When a dangerous situation brings him back into her life she finds it difficult to keep her distance.  She may not want to let those feelings go but it won't be easy when danger follows her back to California & Mac is the only thing standing between her and harm.

I've been reading a lot of military/suspense romance series and I don't know if I'm getting them confused, but I remember a bit more action in Under Fire.  While we do get it (and Cole does an AWESOME job of making it tense and thrilling), it mostly happens towards the end of the book.  The main part involves the back and forth between Mac & Delaney as they come to terms with their past & whether they can have a future.  Don't get me wrong, the emotional portion of the book is well done and quite compelling.  It's just that I was expecting something a little different so it took me of guard :)

I loved the first book in this series, but this one fell short for me. It was slow and the timeline was choppy. I also couldn't connect with the heroine. It had sexy scenes and good tension though so I feel like you could go either way with this read.

ARC provided but NetGalley.

3.5 stars

The Love Over Duty series follow three Navy Seals friends. I enjoyed the first book in the series and with a sneak peek into book #2 Mac’s story, I was interested to read on. When Mac gets a call that a former lover is in a trouble, he rushes to get to her. However the reunion isn’t all nice and sweet. Delaney blames Mac for her brother’s death(the fourth friend that was once a part of this group) and their break-up revolved around this. Will these former true loves get a chance at their happy ending?

Mac was a great hero. He still loved Delaney after all these years and he did whatever it took to be there and take care of her especially with her being in trouble. The love that came from him was evident. When these two were on, they were great together. It was interesting to see them work it out and the progression of their relationship after the past. But this story also had some suspense in it. I enjoyed all the action and tension throughout. I was intrigued to see what would happen with that part of the story as well as the second chance romance between Mac and Delaney and how these two parts interlinked. Scarlett definitely kept me engaged as I couldn’t wait to see where it would lead and how the story would play out. Overall, Final Siege was a good story that had the right amount of anticipation and love. I’m excited for Cabe’s story-the final book in the series. I am fascinated with him. It is surely to be great.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This was a great romantic suspense book as we see the guys helping Delaney stay safe and solve the issue with the gun running organization which also was tied to the story with Louisa. There was also the romance that was between Delaney and Mac even when she tried so hard to stay apart from him.

I did find it hard to accept that Delaney would want to bury her head about the truth of her brother's death and not search out the truth when she is an investigative report! I do realize that this was personal but I am the type of person who wants the truth!

I loved Mac and the guys! The story with Six and Louisa sounds great and now I want to read their book! I sure hope that Cabe gets his book as you know it has to be sad when he lost his fiance.

One issue that I did have problems with is that there was no warning or break when there was a change in scene or location. You would be reading along and then the next paragraph, was a totally different location and set of characters. sometimes when I was skimming along, I was totally thrown as I was still thinking about the first set of people and then realized that we were now reading about different people in this paragraph.

Malachai 'Mac' MacCarrick has never gotten over Delaney Shapiro. So, when he receives an urgent phone call about her being in overseas hospital, he rushes to her bedside determined to protect her from whatever mess she's found herself in as a investigative journalist. He knows she's not going to give up on her story, but the deeper they dive into the investigation, the more danger Delaney finds herself in. Will Mac be able to keep her safe, or will they lose their second chance at forever after?

What an enthralling and fast-paced read Ms. Cole has delivered in this second book of her Love over Duty series that tugged at my heartstrings because of this couple's history that had me sympathizing with the both of them. Will Mac be able to make things right with the heroine? Will he finally give her the truth about what happened that fateful day that cost the life of someone they loved?

The way this story started had me hooked straight away, as Mac will do anything for Delaney, which is proven by the way he's there for her in her time of need, even though she isn't the most gracious of people that he's dropped everything for her. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time in this book that had me intrigued, as Mac is determined to win Delaney back, but she doesn't make things easy.

Both the main characters were fantastic and I loved every interaction between them, as the hero does his best to win the heroine over. Will Delaney ever be able to forgive Mac? Moreover, both the main characters back stories had me liking this pair too, as the loss they both suffered led them to the careers they have. Delaney being an investigative journalist is resilient, courageous, full of integrity and determined to only report the truth, which is proven by how far she's willing to go to get her latest story. What happened to her that landed her in an overseas hospital? I also liked how the heroine gave the hero a second chance, because they deserve to be happy and neither have been able to forget the other.

While the hero, he's honorable, confident in his skills s a former SEAL, and I liked how determined he was to protect the heroine from being hurt again, as she continues to investigate her story. I also liked the close friendship he shares with his two best friends and that his friends weren't afraid to offer their advice because they know how much Delaney has always meant to him. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero was his determination to win the heroine over, even if it means breaking the promise he once made in order to make her understand what happened that fateful day that led to their break-up in the past.

Overall, Ms. Cole has delivered a wonderful read in this book where there was a perfect combination of suspense and romance; the chemistry between this couple was heady and convincing; the romance was hot and had me loving that the heroine gave the hero a second chance; and the ending had worried for one of the main characters because of the danger, but had me satisfied by how things worked out for the best for Mac and Delaney. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, because of what Delaney's achieved when it comes to her story and the fact that she and Mac are finally together again and happier than ever. I would recommend Final Siege by Scarlett Cole, if you enjoy romantic suspense, second chance romances, or books by authors Laura Griffin, AJ Nuest, Misty Evans and Kaylea Cross.

Final Siege by Scarlet Cole
Love Over Duty #2

Second chances at love with the woman you thought you would spend the rest of your life with don’t happen often so when Mac MacCarrick receives a call saying that Delaney Shapiro is asking for him he is on the next plane to Germany. He finds Delaney battered, bruised and sedated. He wants to take care of her and hopes there may be a second chance for them after fourteen years apart. Delaney is not sure why he is there and is unable to easily forget the “hate” she has felt for Mac over the years… With time she does thaw a bit but until a secret is revealed she is still in a bit of limbo.

This story deals with the men of Eagle Securities Company and each of the two stories so far has seen one of the men meet the woman that is to be in his future. Both women have had compelling life threatening entities to deal with that required the assistance of the ex-military men they eventually fall for. And, there was a bit of overlap between books one and two in who the threat was perpetrated by. I wonder if in book three there will be another source of threat to the woman that is the main character and also who which male will be involved.

The road to love for Mac and Delaney is not easy. There are tense moments, emotional battles to be waged, evil assassins to thwart and a friendship and love to rekindle. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series. It did make me wonder about what compels people to take risks that can be life threatening as Delaney did with her investigative journalism and Mac did in the military and pondering that was an interesting thing…as was thinking about how journalists and military might have different viewpoints on the same situation.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
