A great book by a fantastic author. The writing is excellent and the mystery keeps you turning the pages. Characters are well developed. Highly recommend.

Deja Moo is the third book in the Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum mystery series. Although I haven't read the previous titles, I would recommend this series to library patrons who are fans of paranormal cozies. Quirky characters, interesting locale are two big pluses when reading cozies and this series has it. What is also so important with a cozy is the strong lead character, hopefully, an unconventional crime-solver in a small community. Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner, folks. I can't wait to read more of this kooky & slightly spooky series.

I love this series! This book is a win, win with for me. I really like all the characters not to mention the witty dialog. If you like cozie mysteries with a little paranormal on the side, you'll love this series for sure. I've already purchased the first book in the series and this is the third installment I got some catching up to do for sure.
I would like to thank Midnight Ink and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this e-galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum is a fun mystery series and this third book doesn't disappoint. Maddie has completely embraced her role as the owner of the paranormal museum but she can't work up any enthusiasm for the thirty foot tall straw Christmas cow. It competes with her own business and the thing is burned down almost every year...and this time arson isn't the only thing to go wrong. One of the committee members who was out that night to guard the cow is murdered and her mother is a suspect. There's also the panic growing around Maddie's newest display of cursed cowbells. She can't tell people that they aren't cursed, which would be bad for the museum, but everyone in town is hearing bells and fearing that death is near. There's a fourth book coming out next spring and I'll definitely be watching for that one.

Deja Moo is the third book in the Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum series by Kirsten Weiss. While each mystery stands well on its own, the characters and their relationships are built up through the series. To really understand some of the relationships and issues it is best to read this series in order.

Maddie Kosloski is no fan of San Benedetto's Christmas Cow, a thirty-foot straw bovine that graces the town square every December. For one thing, the cow displaces her paranormal museum as the number one tourist attraction. Plus, every year, despite around-the-clock surveillance, the cow goes up in flames. But this year, there's more than just a fire blazing in Maddie's wine-country hometown. One of the Christmas Cow guards has been found with an arrow in his chest, and Maddie's new haunted cowbell exhibit is fueling a panic. Are the spirits in her museum getting too hot to handle? If Maddie can't stop the hysteria—and the murderous archer—her holiday plans might not be the only thing full of holes.

Deja Moo is a solid addition to the series, with quirky conversations and interactions to entertain through out the book. I liked the continued relationships and how they change and grow, particularly with Maddie and her friends. I like seeing Maddie and her mother interact and how their relationship and respect for each other is always growing and evolving. I found the the mystery of the archer, flaming cow, and town politics to be multilayers and just complicated enough to keep readers guessing, but not so complicated that it got over the top or boring. One of my favorite things about the story is the use of paranormal activity and skepticism that leaves it up to the reader to decide what is real, and what really happened. While maddie is firmly a skeptic she accepting of other beliefs and willing to keep an open mind. I do like the slow burn of Maddie's current romance, but could have enjoyed the book just as much without any romance written in.

Since I was reading an uncorrected proof from Netgalley, I am hoping that the one thing that bothered be through the read was fixed by the release. There was a small even that the characters started referring to about a third of the way through the book. I figured I had been interrupted or distracted when it happened and missed it- but after going back three times I could not find it. It distracted me through the rest of the read. I would also love to read a book with no love triangle, or even hints or references to one. Maybe a mystery without a current romance would be okay, I know I would still read it.

Deja Moo is a quick, enjoyable read with layered story lines and well developed characters. I look forward to this series continuing.

I received an e-copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a review. Thank you to Kirsten Weiss and Midnight Ink!

I'm not going to lie, I picked this book based on that title. My husband is a dairy farmer so I tend to lean towards bovine-related things. :)

Even though I had no idea going in that this was the third in a series, I really enjoyed it. It's a quick, fun read, and the bonus was that I didn't have the whodunit aspect figured out within the first half of the book!

Deja Moo by Kirsten Weiss is the third book in the cozy Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum mystery series and I think I enjoyed this one the most. Each book can be read as a standalone, but because this series is so good, I would read them all.

Maddie Kosloski owns the Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum in San Benedetto and has changed everything up to a Christmas theme. Each year, the Ladies Aide Society and the Dairy Association erect a 30 foot Christmas Cow made from straw, so Maddie purchased and displayed "The Cursed Cowbells" received from their sister city in Sweden where the cow tradition came from. The humorous thing about this cow was that every Christmas, someone ends up setting the cow on fire and this year is no exception. Maddie's mom is on guard the night of the fire and her partner gets an arrow in the chest. Shortly after this, her car is bombed, which pulls Maddie and her mom fully into the investigation. The other storyline has to do with the cowbells. Many in town are calling both the police and the museum about the curse. They are complaining about hearing bells and are worried the curse is responsible for Bill's death. Trying to solve this problem has Maddie paying "Shamans" and psychics to "bind the curse".

I really enjoyed the humour in this story. I also enjoyed the subtle touches of paranormal and the mystery itself. The characters are wonderfully quirky, loving and loyal as you would expect in a small town. Of course I love GD cat, the ghost detecting kitty who lives in the museum. There is a bit more danger in this story with arrows flying, cars exploding and even cars trying to run people down, but it was not graphic or gory. The love storyline almost became a love triangle with Maddie, Jason and Mason, but fortunately it looks like the Mason story is done and Maddie and Jason (a police detective) may be starting a romance. I like Jason, he tries his best to protect Maddie, but does not treat her like a helpless female. Overall, I love this series and look forward to my next visit to San Benedetto and the Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum.

3.75*/5.

Maddie Kosloski runs a paranormal museum in the California town of San Benedetto. Although she's actually not a big believer in the paranormal aspects of most of the objects in her museum, she enjoys the quirkiness of it and it is a big tourist draw. One of the Christmas traditions of the town is the Christmas Cow, a giant cow built entirely of straw. Somehow, almost every year, it gets torched and this year is no exception. Apart from the fact that one of the people standing guard over it is found dead, an arrow through his chest, after it is attacked by people dressed as gingerbread men and a Santa.

I love the paranormal and is one of several themes I look for in a cosy mystery. So having a new (to me) paranormal series to dig into pleases me greatly. I wasn't aware this was the third in a series, but it was easy enough to leap in and not feel too lost (the usual character arcs/issues) and I enjoyed the quirky, unusual setting around the MC.

The Mason/Maddie relationship was a bit flat for me, but I suppose they had just broken up and were trying to figure things out. I'd need to go back to the beginning to get a better feel for it as I don't know how long they'd been dating but neither appeared to be particularly broken up about it which, if they'd been together for quite some time, I find a bit hard to believe, but if they'd only been dating a few months, I could accept more easily. Regardless, the relationship with Detective Jason Slate seems to be a good way to go.

The one main issue I had (and realising this is an ARC and there are going to be some inconsistencies prior to final edit/release) throughout the book was that Jason's shoulder was damaged by a car hitting him, not by being shot, yet every single instance after the incident that it's mentioned, it's referred to as 'being shot'. As well, I don't remember Maddie's truck being shot up with arrows at any point, yet it is referred to a couple of times.

Also, the point towards the end where Maddie somehow became 'Val' over a few sentences, threw me off briefly.

Both of these, I hope, were corrected in the final edition (please correct me on any of these points if I'm wrong and if the 'man shot' references were directed to the victim rather than the cop, Jason, and I was entirely misunderstanding).

Despite these niggles, I liked it very much and want to go back and start at the beginning of the series.

Very quirky but also a very good read. This was a story within a story within a story. Didn't guess "who done it" nor did I think for one minute that love wouldn't blossom. It is ironic that Maddie doesn't believe in of the items in her own museum and how quirky to have a paranormal museum in wine country. Sounds like a fun place to pass through. Great story line and I look forward to checking out the other books in the series. Kept me engaged and never seemed trite or over done. Wouldn't have figured it for a Christmas Story from the cover that is for sure!

I like the mystery in it and the twists that you cannot see coming. The secondary characters are charming and it can be read as a stand-alone since it mentions the previous cases.

Princess Fuzzypants here:
There are lots of different Christmas traditions from around the world including a massive straw cow. Sadly said cow seems to attract pranksters who like nothing better than to set it afire. This year the culprits are using flaming arrows and in the process one of the town’s leaders is killed. Is it a prank gone horribly wrong or is it murder?
When Maddie and her mother start to ask questions, there is a second murder and her mother’s car is blown up. Clearly it was no accident but premeditated murder. And what is the connection to the cow? There are lots of suspects as few are as innocent as they may seem.
On top of it, there is a panic going on. Maddie’s paranormal museum has a cursed cow bell and there are some who consider the murders and other odd things going on around town a result of the curse. How can Maddie reduce the hysteria without ruining what is turning out to be a stellar attraction for the museum? Museum cat GD is not talking.
This is a fun read. Lots of quirky characters populate the book. Making it an enjoyable few hours.
I give it five purrs and two paws up.

I've read and reviewed the first two books in the series and I give this one the same "really liked it" rating. The mystery is good, Maddie is a really proactive investigator. The author also gives us a lot of page time with Maddie at her job and it seems pretty realistic (versus some cozies where the person never seems to actually do their job or the set up is implausible).

In this outing, Maddie's friends have a back seat and her mom decided she's going to get actively involved. I liked the mom helping out and the believable way she does, even when prevented by the police presence in her life.

I am not fond of love triangles and both of Maddie's love interests show up, one with a much more dominant presence. Despite my preference to just cut one out and "drop it" from reference, it makes sense that the ties can still be there between two potential love interests. I didn't feel it was used to excess.

Looking forward to the next book. I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I loved this series from the beginning. It is such fun to read about a paranormal museum and the antics that occur at the museum. This is the third book in the Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum Mystery series by Kirsten Weiss . Maddie runs a paranormal museum in the town of San Benedetto, California. Its Christmas time and she is guarding a town mascot,. a 30 foot cow. Hilarity ensues and much happens to both the cow, the town and the museum. This is a series you can count on for a fun read, a group of supporting characters that are fun and a great protagonist in Maddie. I look forward to each new book in this series. Its different, interesting and fun. The sleuth kept me guessing! Thank you for the ARC which did not influence my review.

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

'Deja Moo' is the third book in a mystery series revolving around main character Maddie Kosloski. I love cozies set in coffee shops, book stores, and especially museums, so this book was perfect for me! Add in a touch of the paranormal and a really great cast of secondary characters and we have a cozy series I'll stick with. Now, not every book is perfect. I did guess the killer within the first fifty pages or so, but the story line was interesting enough to keep me engaged.

Maddie has her museum all decked out with some cool paranormal type Christmas decor and she even bought the towns cursed Christmas cow bells.

Each year at Christmas time their town builds a Christmas cow out of haystacks. It's a Swedish tradition they got from their sister town and it was the Swedish town that gave them the cow bells. A few years back the cow caught fire and now it's a new tradition with some of the local teens to see who can light it up. So the Ladies Aid along with the Dairy farmers association have put guards on the cow to try and make sure nobody burns it down.

Maddie was on her way to meet her mother at the cow but her old truck had other plans, Detective Slate stops to offer assistance when she gets a call from her mother. She is frantic telling her the cow is under attack and not to come. Detective Slate gives Maddie a ride as they are both worried about what is going on. What has always been a prank has turned into murder though as the other person who was supposed to be guarding the cow is found with an arrow sticking out of him.

It was flaming arrows that hit the cow  but a regular arrow that hit the man, so was it a prank gone wrong or someone taking the opportunity to use the prank to commit murder? It's something Maddie needs to find out as her mom was there when it happened and she want's Maddie to look into things. Then some other things happen and panic sets in as someone is spreading rumors that it's the cursed cowbells causing everything which could be good or bad for Maddie's business.

I really like Maddie and her museum, her mother would be hard to get use too but she makes things fun. I also like her friends and feel that she has a really good couple of friends and even those who are not friends seem to watch out for each other. I was a little bummed about what happened between her and Mason, but I do like Detective Slate and it seems that maybe there is a budding romance there. :)

I really liked how this one ended as it showed the dynamics of a small town and the author did a great job of making me go back and forth between suspects trying to figure out who done it.

If you like cozies then you should check out this series, if your not big on paranormal then don't worry, there isn't a lot of spook in these books just a fun series around a fairly odd little museum. :)

Though this is the third in the series it can be read as a stand alone. It's a great "get away from it all" kind of read. How can you not be intrigued by a mystery involving a huge straw cow and a museum display of cursed cow bells? Along with the usual corpse or two, of course. Maddie could do without the traditional yearly cow especially since it usually ends up going up in flames do to vandals. This year Maddie's mom is on cow guard when murder strikes one of the guards - by arrow. If that wasn't insane enough, Maddie is soon fending off a rumor that says her museum exhibit of cow bells has brought a curse to town. Maddie has her hands full dealing with her museum, her mom, her love life and more than one murder. I love the humor, the setting and the mystery - a great combination. I'll be looking forward to book #4.
My thanks to the publisher Midnight Ink and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
