In the ninth book of E.J. Copperman's A Haunted Guesthouse mystery, Paul Harrison, the resident private investigator ghost has left for parts unknown, so things have quieted down for Alison Kirby, guesthouse owner and ghost whisperer. That is until Paul's older attorney brother, recently murdered, shows up wanting to see Paul.

Richard wants to find Paul so he could help Cassidey VanDoren, the client he was working for at the time of his death. He believes she is in serious danger not to mention, she was also arrested for the murder of her step-father, Keith Barent Johnson. When Paul returns home, he and Alison, with the help of their friends, embark on an investigation not only to find out who really murdered Johnson, but also Richard as well. But Richard strangely doesn't want an investigation into his death as much as he wants protection for Cassidy Van Doren.

This story moves at a steady pace with a host of prospective murderers. I have to say this one kept me guessing and when all is revealed, you realized how well placed the clues were and how they fit together. I would recommend this book and series to readers who like cozy mysteries with a paranormal element to it.

First, the title really makes no sense. The primary ghosts in this story are male, Maxi makes very brief appearances.

This is a very Alison centric story. The large cast of secondary characters all pop up, but briefly except for Paul because his brother is the ghost with the problem. You'd think this would give us an opportunity to learn more about Paul, but it's really minimal.

Alison is one of the most realistic cozy mystery characters I can think of. At times, she borders on being unlikable for such a character. She isn't always willing to help and on the go to solve crimes. She can be snappish and has other faults. They don't negatively affect the story for me, but I think I've noticed it in every book, briefly acknowledged it and shrugged it off.

It was nice having Paul's brother being the ghost with the problem and the story, despite having a very limited group of suspects, kept me engaged. It would be nice to have more character development in this series (besides Melissa becoming a better cook) and this set up would have provided an excellent opportunity for that and wasn't used.

A fun series. I have missed a few, but could still follow the story just fine. Alison runs a bed and breakfast, and can see the ghosts who live there. Paul and Maxie are a mainstay in each story, and work with Alison to solve murders. This one has Paul's brother showing up, and yes, he is now a ghost too. Working together, they help solve the crime, with the help of several ghosts and of course the living. Enjoyed this one. Highly recommend.

I've followed this series for awhile and have enjoyed it and the ghosts. This latest installment continues that success. I really enjoyed the background with Paul's brother, it's nice when author's can expand beyond the main characters.

Quirky and humorous with characters that make you feel at home . The mystery is solid as always and the intro if Paul's brother was interesting it gave a great look into some of is family background

As the owner of a haunted inn, Alison Kerby rarely gets time to relax, if her human guests aren’t in need of something, her ghostly ones are. Now, Richard, the newly murdered brother of Paul, the ghost detective has shown up looking for justice. But Paul is AWOL, leaving Alison to try to figure out who killed Richard. Richard’s last case involved a woman accused of killing her stepfather, and when he got too close to the truth, he was apparently murdered. Still trying to find Paul, Alison continues digging to try to get justice for Richard, but it’s not lost on her that she may soon be joining the ranks of her undead guests if she’s not very careful. A fun cozy series that can always be counted on to deliver just enough chills.
