I was really pleased to receive this ARC by Ashlyn Chase. I have read one or two of her stories previously and like her as a person. This paranormal romance was not quite what I was expecting.

It was a contemporary romance featuring a large loving, supportive family who just happen to be shifter Phoenix. It barely qualifies as paranormal to me. The focus is on the contemporary romance between the steady Gabe, middle child of firemen phoenix family who find himself looking after his best friend's little sister, who's now all grown up! She and her brother are orphans and look out for each other. Because she's been having some mysterious medical issues that are starting to cause her some real trouble and her sleazy boss, Gabe steps in to lend support to this very independent old family friend. He's really troubled that he finds her really HOT and off limits because she's his best friend's little sister.

This book had great passion, contemporary issues and very little paranormal to it. Gabe's shifting to phoenix almost didn't need to be part of the story and didn't happen until 2/3 of the way through the story. The love story progression was good with enough give and take. The other problem I had was with how the eventual medical diagnosis was handled. I won't give away what they found but it just didn't seem taken seriously enough. The resolution at the end for "fixing" it seemed lightly handled as well.

Thank you Ashlyn and Sourcebooks for the NetGalley ARC of this story for my honest review.

“A PARANORMAL TWIST ON STAY AWAY FROM MY LITTLE SISTER or face my irrational wrath, because I put you in charge of watching over her adult self while I was gone.” HOOKED ON A PHOENIX by Ashlyn Chase is her latest paranormal romance that follows another Fierro brother as he finds the love and romance he worked hard to avoid. The problem? Little Misty has grown up and her lifelong crush on Gabe is about to explode, right when she learns of a potentially devastating medical issue that really seemed to be glossed over. Oh, and Gabe is not the settling down, commitment, kind, of course sex with Misty is fine, just no commitment.

Ms. Chase is an excellent author, but this storyline has been done so many times and there was nothing to make this one “special” for me. There is a highlight, though… Gaia! Dang, I love that woman!

This is far from the first book that i've read by this author, and it definitely won't be the last. The characters are fun and engaging, and it introduces you to another family that i"m going to want to know more about.

Hooked on a Phoenix is a paranormal version of my best friends little sister. It is sweet, fun and will have you heart running the gamut of emotions from anxiety and fear to laughter and love. The world is well developed and the characters are likeable.

I was luke warm with my feelings on this couple. Gabe and Misty hadn't seen each other for years, which allowed Misty to grow and and grow up pretty, which made Gabe notice, making his task of looking after Misty for Parker not a good thing. I had to give Misty props for going after her long time crush, Gabe wasn't sure whether he was the luckiest guy ever or a bad guy for lusting after his best friends little sister.

It didn't help that after their encounter Gabe often came off as a cold fish, at times being there for Misty and ignoring her. Misty deserved better. It's almost too bad that her life became a train wreck and needed to lean on Gabe and his family. While Gabe was iffy, his family was a great help for Misty.

I sort of expected more after the family revealed their secret, instead it wasn't hardly a blip and Misty took it well. It was a good thing as Gabe needed to use the phoenix strengths after a bad day at work.

The ending was ok for me. Of course Misty was offered a job from Gaia and there was a HEA.

The Fierro family at it's finest. The love, laughs, and strong family ties make this book a fun read. Another great story to add to the books.

I didn't enjoy this. I really was hoping I would have. It has everything I tend to love! but unfortunately I only got to 25% maybe 30% and I wasn't feeling it. It was a struggle to get into it from there onwards, maybe it was the mood or it could have been that I just came off reading an amazing 5+ read. I think for what I read, that people who love this genre will enjoy it. I am hoping I can return to it in the near future.

arc was received for an honest review.

This is the latest episode in the Phoenix Brothers paranormal romance series. This one focuses on Gabe who is the middle of seven sons. He's the responsible one who is quiet and reluctant to take responsibility for anyone. He has decided that he'll never marry or have children because he fears that he won't be able to care for them.

However, when his best friend asks him to look after his baby sister while he is deployed to Afghanistan, Gabe agrees. After all, he liked her when they were children hanging around the same Boston South End neighborhood. Misty has grown up and is back in Boston after seeing her grandparents through their final days. She's working as a bank teller though her real dream is to be a dancer.

Gabe decides to casually look over her by opening a checking account at the branch where she works only to come in during a bank robbery. He pushes both of them into the safe where they spend hours getting to know each other again. Misty has grown up into a very attractive and engaging young woman who is still in love with the boy who was her hero when she was a child.

Misty is going through some health issues and Gabe accompanies her to a number of doctor's appointments where she is diagnosed with MS. After a birthday party where they celebrate by becoming intimate, she finds herself pregnant. She knows that Gabe will do the "right thing" but she doesn't want to pressure him to do something he doesn't want to do. Gabe is torn between his previous vision of himself and this new vision which includes a family with Misty.

To add more excitement, Misty's boss at the bank is becoming a stalker who is trying to break up her relationship with Gabe. And Gabe is hurt in an explosion and needs to die and be reborn which means he needs to spend some months as a phoenix until he regains his current age.

This was a fun romance with an interesting sort of paranormal being.

Hooked on a Phoenix by Ashlyn Chase is part of her paranormal series. Gabe’s best friend Parker is shipping out with the Marines. Parker asked Gabe to watch his little sister Misty who is not a child any longer! Gabe fights his feelings for Misty but finds he’s attracted to her and can’t stop thinking of her. He thinks it’s a bad idea since he doesn’t want a serious relationship. Misty has loved Gabe since she was a little girl and wants to be with him. He fights against his attraction to her until she wears him out. Loved this book as well as all her books. 5 stars cant wait for more!!! You can’t put it down once you start!

Gabe Fierro is a phoenix and rather fittingly, he works as a fireman. When his best friend asks Gabe to look after his kid sister, Misty, while he's overseas, Gabe is hesitant, but agrees. After all, how hard can it be?! Apparently really hard, because when Gabe sees Misty, he realizes that little girl he used to know is now a very attractive woman. Gabe tries to casually come up with a way to keep tabs on Misty so he opens a bank account at the bank where Misty works. Lucky for her, he stopped by when he did or else she might have suffered at the hands of the men who held up her bank that day.

Misty has always had a thing for Gabe and she can't believe he is back in her life. After they get locked in the safe at the bank together, Misty sets out to make the most of it. Gabe and her begin seeing each other, but not long into the relationship, Misty's health begins to decline. She discovers she has MS and on top of that she is also pregnant. How will Gabe take the news? Can he ever come to love her like she loves him?

Reviewed via NetGalley! Up until the last part of the book, I was loving the story. I was very close to giving it 4 stars, but because of a few things toward the end being unresolved or just magically fixed, I had to give it a 3.5 instead. Also, I felt I was missing out on some things due to this possibly being a spinoff series. Misty is young and adventurous. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it. Gabe on the other hand takes a little more time to come around to the idea of him and Misty being together. Their story is definitely touching. They go through a lot, but in the end they have each other and that's what love is all about. If you're a fan of shapeshifters, author Ashlyn Chase's new PHOENIX BROTHERS series is for you. It all starts with HOOKED ON A PHOENIX.

**My thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This was a decent book and the second book that i have read from this author, although it is in a different series it is still about the same family of Phoenix's.

Gabs is the more sensitive brother and has decided he never wants a wife or a family of his own, however after his best friend Parker asks him to look after his little sister, a girl he has not seen for years, things take on a different turn. It takes Gabe having his life turned upside down to realise the mistake he has made, it also takes a special woman.

Misty is a strong woman who has a hard time just as she is seeing Gabs for the first time in ages, with health concerns that worry her.

The family shows a strong sense of loyalty and kinship and welcome Misty with open arms, helping her without question.

The author gives a good view of the modern world with a paranormal twist that is believable without sounding silly.

This was a pretty good book. Misty has always had a huge crush on Gabe. I liked how protective her big brother was because he asked Gabe to watch out for her. Gabe's reluctance was somewhat understandable but a bit of a reach. Their first meeting amused me, because he was expecting the little girl who used to follow him and her brother around, not the woman she had grown into.

Their relationship was entertaining to watch develop. Absolutely had ups and downs. I really liked how close Gabe's whole family was. The family secret has to be kept, but Misty has always known them so I was insanely curious how she was going to react to finding out. I didn't like her boss at all. He was a jerk and very creepy! The story-line flowed well and I look forward to reading more about this family.

It was a 3/5 for me.

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

I really enjoy this whole series by Ashlyn Chase! This one does not disappoint. Some people might not like that Mom Nature steps in to smooth some things - but I do. Light fun read!
