Enjoyable read. Found myself asking the same questions as Thomas. Very interesting blend of history and fiction. Thomas is one of the few apostles not clearly portrayed. Would definetly recommend.

An interesting book, but one I couldn't really get into like I thought I would. I liked the premise of the story but it just didn't work well for me.

The Book of Thomas the Doubter is much more than just the Gospel of Thomas; it's a fictionalized story incorporating the gnostic gospels.
The narrative construction itself is fine but in reading it I understand why this collections of works is not considered cannon. In reading it you see hw it contradicts other teachings and philosophy already established as part of the Christian Bible. This is this exacerbated by the fact the author didn't even use the whole story. He edited out parts that he considered too gnostic such as talking animals because that didn't fit in with his view. So it's don't really even an objective look at these bodies of works.
There isn't much at "Uncovering the Hidden Message". The epilogue provides some historic background but it doesn't really get into what makes the gnostic gospel important for study and what the hidden messages are in these works.
This book did very little for my understand of the body of work enclosed other than to show me why the mainstream does not accept them. I need to seek research elsewhere.
