I generally like these early reader books because they do exactly what they advertise. This title boasts clear text that is repetitive and simple for young readers. The photographic style images are clear and give the reader a very good example of the animal being discussed. The problem is that there is often no relation other than the animal identified between the image and the text. I don't feel they support emerging readers with context clues and wouldn't support learning new vocabulary from being predictable in that way. For that reason it's a borrow and not a buy for an early reader.

This was a cute easy reader book about baby animals. The text was repetitive which is good for beginning readers and the illustrations were very cute. The biggest problem with this book was there would be a sentence such as: Puppies play with bones and balls, but the illustration is showing three puppies in a basket. It would be better if the pictures matched the sentence especially to assist with learning new words using picture cues. This would be a good book in a grade one classroom where students are just learning to read. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

There are so many better easy readers featuring different animals that this one should be left on the rack. It is quickly and cheaply put together with standard stock photos of baby animals. Each animal has a sentence about that animal. Not well done. Pick something else.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of the fact that the pictures of the animals didn’t show what was being described in the text.

Kids book, very easy to read. Pictures of all the baby animals as well as a sentence about them. Only about 30 pages. Some of the animals may be a bit advances for a younger reader (marmoset?) but I loved all the monkeys that were included. Cute, cute, cute!

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.

Cute picture book! The pictures are crisp and clear. It does not have the best captions, but I tended to ignore them and just look at the pictures...like most children will!

Pictures of baby animals highlight one fact about what they like to do. Some are more obvious than others. There are three different types of monkeys included. Guinea pigs are an interesting insertion.
The photos are so cute you hardly pay attention to the text, pandas and hedgehogs in particular. Rats not so much. Should get some really small kids interested.

This is a nice simple picture book consisting of photographs of lots of different baby animals, and nice clear black text describing some of the things that each baby animal does. I like the simplicity of this and that photographs have been used as opposed to illustrations. The only downside is that there is a vast amount of white space, particularly at the bottom half of each page, and so it would have been nice to see larger images.

Simple texts; big attractive pictures of animals and their baby for very young readers.

This book uses color photos of actual animals to illustrate, which is realistic, and the colors are vibrant. I enjoyed the vocabulary and activities at the end. Straight forward and engaging, this is a great way to introduce baby animal words to your child.

Thank you to Xist Publishing for the opportunity to read and review.

It is a lovely book, with a lot of useful vocabulary for pre-schoolers. I particularly appreciated the variety of animals introduced, which sometimes are even beyond the basic knowledge of a pretty educated parent. The choice for photos as illustration is a good idea too.
