Bering Sea Strong is a tale about strength and searching. The author, desperate to get into grad school, took a job with a government agency to report on catches from fishing ships. With interesting snapshots of her past, she writes of her adventures of being the lone female aboard testerone laden boats. Ultimately, her time at sea had a profound impact on her life and the undulating waves sent her in the direction she was supposed to go on land.

I thought this book was going to be about something completely different, and once I started it was not sure if I would read it. I don't like cold, cold water, fishing, sea sickness, and a boatload of men, some questionable, so I was hesitant.
But I ended up really enjoying this story. It's real, you can almost feel the chill and see the guy in his underpants. The author was brave, no doubt. Her honesty about why she found herself where she was, and what she needed to do about it was good to read, I hesitate to use the word authentic since it is sooo abused, but that is the feeling I got from reading her story.
Excellent and a nice surprise.
