I give this book 4 out of 5 Cozy Kitty Stars! This was a highly enjoyable cozy mystery. I loved how this book was perfect if you are an animal/cat lover. Meow! I have 5 feline friends, 1 canine friend and 2 turtles. So you can definitely say I am an animal enthusiast/crazy cat lady! This book also had some bookish elements that made me oh so happy! The story was well written and was entertaining. The only issue issue I had was that this was second in the series and I have made the mistake of choosing a few books off NetGalley that were part of a series that I haven’t read so the characters were missing a little depth. This is my fault for not paying close enough attention but overall, I highly recommend this book!😄📚

Calling all feline and mystery lovers, this book-- the 2nd in the Cat Rescue series-- has something for you. Sydney McCall is organizing a fundraising event for the Friendly Paws Animal Rescue when a suspicious death of the featured celebrity occurs. Keeping another shelter employee from suspicions of involvement leads Sydney down a dangerous road. Another enjoyable entry from LoTempio

Thanks to Crooked Lane Books and netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Death by a Whisker is the second installment in the Cat Rescue Mystery series featuring Sydney "Syd" McCall, Publicity Director for the Friendly Paws Animal Shelter located in Deer Park, North Carolina. The shelter is buzzing with excitement in preparation for their upcoming fundraiser; a book signing by local author Dudley Simmons with all proceeds from the book sales going to the shelter.

When Dudley is injured in a car accident, Crowden's Bookstore owner Tara Pitsenberger recruits another Deer Park native Ulla Townsend, famed television shopping channel host. Unfortunately not everyone is delighted to have Ulla back in town. The woman had a reputation as being one of the mean girls in high school, her pranks leaving bad memories for a lot of the locals.

Ulla arrives as a diva, ruffling feathers and dredging up the past. Ultimately she signs her last book at the fundraiser and shelter employee Maggie Shayne becomes the prime suspect in Ulla's untimely death. With the help of her sister Kat and roommate/bestie journalist Leila Addams, Syd sets out against the wishes of boyfriend and homicide detective Wil Worthington to clear Maggie's name.

Fun, fast paced plot with plenty of suspects. Readers will once again fall in love with the animals of the shelter, and Syd's delightful tabby Toby will have you laughing aloud with his antics.

I received an advanced copy of Death by a Whisker from NetGalley via Crooked Lane Publishing. While not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.

If you like cats or to read about them, this story is for you. It takes place in Deer Park, NC. It is centered around the Friendly Paws Animal Shelter and their annual fund raiser. This also is the time they try to place many pets for adoption. The original celebrity has an accident and can’t make it. Soon after the replacement arrived there is a murder. Sidney McCall, an amateur sleuth, is trying to solve this murder when aSidney solve these mourners. Again, thanks Net Galley for the opportunity to review this book.

Enjoyed the characters and the setting. This is the first book I've read in the series, although I've read this author before and have also enjoyed the other books as well.

So many characters, so little character development. Clearly, the belief is "the more characters tossed into a story, the harder a mystery should be to solve". However, not so in this case ... it was quite obvious.

However, since I read it in one night, something held my attention!

Sydney McCall is back in Deer Park, North Carolina with her tabby cat Toby. She's helping her sister Kat run the local animal shelter. The shelter gets involved in a fundraiser with rich and famous Ulla Townsend, but things go terribly wrong when Ulla turns up dead. Are Sydney and Kat up for the challenge of whodunit?

A cozy cat mystery. When Syd and her sister Kat join together to set up a cat adoption with an author's meet and greet, the plan goes awry when the author turns up dead. Syd decides to play detective, and digs into the numerous characters and their pasts to find out who was the killer. Overall, a good murder mystery, but dragged a bit at times. I also did not see any sparks with her boyfriend Will, the cop, and he is only in and out a few times. References are made to previous stories, but this is the first I've read in the series. May be better to read some of the others first. Would recommend, but could have been better.

I'm so enthralled with T. C. LoTempio 's writing that I actually went and purchased the previous series. The story progresses at a steady pace while the ending was a complete surprise. Adding characters from the first book in the series was a nice touch. While it's not mandatory to read the first book I highly recommend it for greater background.
I'm so looking forward to the nest book!

While I really enjoyed this book, it had a few let downs early on that prevented me from giving it five stars. Firstly, I felt like there was waaaaay too many female characters introduced early on, especially when we all know a cozy mystery is going to have a murder. There were in fact so many that I forgot the main character's name, as well as her sister and her room mate. Add to them the team around Ulla, the volunteers and then the cafe workers and I was lost.

I also felt like it took too long to get into the mystery of Ulla's death, and it could have been shaved down a little. But then when we did finally get there, it was worth it! The cats play a major role in solving the case, which is a cozy aspect I always love.

I felt like the dynamics between characters are just beginning to grow, and I'm not sure if I like the romance or not. It is very stereotypical to have the sleuth going out with the detective after all, but we don't even see enough of Will to form an opinion.

This was a quick fun read that will appeal to mystery lovers. It has a few faults but nothing that cannot be easily overcome. Four stars.
