A collection of 12 short interviews of people who lived in South Africa during the apartheid era.

I thought this was ok but it could have been so much better. Most of the stories were just mediocre with only a few really standing out. I personally felt a bit bored and think that that is maybe more to do with how the interviewer/narrator portrayed them rather than the actual stories themselves.

My favourite story was definitely about the Shebeen (an unlicensed illegal bar) and the owner who was a feisty, strong willed woman with a no-nonsense attitude to her patrons. Her story made me smile!

I received this book free of charge from the publisher in return for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I read this book in one sitting. Outstanding stories from people about being Black during apartheid and their experiences. It was a sobering experience to be able to read these stories., The poet, Yolanda, Detective Hubi, they all invite us into their lives during this time. One story is just as good as the other. This book must be read by all. I am sure we all will come away with something different, but I ask you to get your favorite beverage, sit down and read this book. You will not be sorry. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review.
