Edward Eden is the illegitimate son. His younger brother, James, gets the title of Earl of Eden, but not the finances to run the estate, that, is in Edward's hands. Edward falls in love with James" fiance, Harriet. Harriet spends time with Edward, finding later that she is pregnant. She goes into hiding until after delivery of her child. What will happen to her child? Which brother will she marry? (Sorry, I am not telling the whole story.)

Most books I read are ok. This book went well beyond ok, it is one of the best reads I have had in awhile. I look forward to reading the sequel

Excellent new edition of the very talented Harris' classic tale of a cursed, but terribly romantic family. I first read this series years ago and I'm absolutely thrilled to see it finally out in e format! I've recommended this many times over the years, but to finally be able to point readers to the ebook is wonderful. Harris was an amazing writer with a wonderful eye for drama and her ability to keep the reader involved in this multigenerational saga is evidence of her talent at character development and terrifically twisty plots. Can't wait to re-read the rest of this series and even more to watch a new generation of readers discover the gothic greatness of the Edens.
