I don't know if I really liked this book more than the others in the series or if I was just in the mood for this kind of book, but I totally dove into this one. I love that Riley made Cee's origin Australian without the standard convict or cattle station narrative. Instead, the historical parts of the novel deal with the less commonly fictionalized subjects of the mining industry, the north coast, and Aboriginal peoples in the early 20th century. The family ties are complex but manageable to follow, and the novel is populated with diverse and well-drawn characters. The plotting is fairly intricate too - thinking back on the book upon completion, I realized a lot happened in both timelines! The only flaw I found was that Cee's romantic relationships didn't really ring true, which made me reflect that this series about women discovering themselves and their origins unfortunately has required them to also find a man/partner in each installment. I mean, the romance adds some spice (at least in the first 3 books), but it's an unfortunate addition to the overall theme. But anyway, great book.

Fantastic addition to the Seven Sisters series! I think I say this after each one I read, but I think this has been my favorite. It seems to take me a bit to get into each new story only because I’m trying to put all the sisters stories into order. However, once I got to know Kitty I was hooked. I love that Riley is able through this series to take her readers to different remote places across the globe and teach them something about these places while they’re there. So excited to continue these sisters stories. 5 stars.
