We now spend up to 80% of our workday in teams. How can we make the most of our efforts and come out on top? The Best Team Wins: The New Science of High Performance by Adrian Gostick & Chester Elton explores just that question.

Team work is no longer an option, it’s a requirement in today’s highly competitive market. How can we create teams that outperform the competition and produce the best results? Best selling authors Adrian Gostick & Chester Elton look at data from more than 850,000 employee engagement surveys and develop Five Disciplines Of Team Leaders in The Best Team Wins.

Released around the same time, The Culture Code by Daniel Coyle focuses much more on the key features which allow organizations and teams to build the best culture, while The Best Team Wins is offers advice many more specific pieces of a high performing team. While it was interesting at first, the granularity The Best Team Wins provides wasn’t needed. With a good understanding of the key requirements for a great team and culture, you should be able to figure out the details fairly simply.

Those that like things to be clearly spelled out for them will enjoy the level that The Best Team Wins goes to in providing actionable advice for building highly functioning teams. It moves quickly but at times seems to be overly detailed for beginners, rather than managers who already have experience in team optimization.

Through data and practical suggestions for greater team performance, The Best Team Wins offers insight and advice to get the most from your groups. It’s easy to understand and provides plenty of ideas you can apply to nearly any team.
