“Honk! Splat! Vroom!” will be a great book for story times. Children will enjoy the sounds (and find them silly) - they could even participate by echoing the sound. This title also teaches how pictures can tell the story.

Five mice race down a track speeding around turns, cruising over jumps, and running into a few obstacles. They will need more than just speed to become the winner of this race! With minimal words and lively illustrations Honk! Splat! Vroom! is an easy and fun story to read. My toddler loves it!

Honk! Splat! Vroom! by Barry Gott is currently scheduled for release on February 1 2018. Five mice speed down a road race, eager to cross the finish line. But first they must overcome all sorts of messy obstacles, including mud and one very hungry cat! Luckily, a friendly goose saves the day.

Honk! Splat! Vroom! is a fast and fun read for even the youngest readers. The five mice are racing hard, and while they struggle to win and are not always kind to each other as one mouse is left behind and they pass and pass again. However, when danger is at hand the mouse that was left behind and his new friend save the day. Not the best tale about how to behave in competition, but in the end they all redeem themselves and act as friends should. The illustrations and words are big, bold, and will capture the attention and interest of readers, keeping them engaged and entertained.

Honk! Splat! Vroom! was another book about cars racing. In this story five mice take off against one another and one car gets a late start. The cars run into various struggles throughout the race and instead of showing kindness to the other racers that mice laugh at each other and are somewhat unkind. In the end, one mouse helps the others by scaring off the cat, but the book radiates a lack of kindness. This isn't a book that I would share with my children because it doesn't teach how I would want them to respond in those situations. It could have been a funny, silly book, but I wasn't impressed.

This is a story told in pictures and sounds. Five mice are off on a road race. With mud, water and a hungry cat all in the way, will any of them make it to the finish line. With the help of a friendly and loud goose, the friends all make it to the finish line, but the goose gets the prize. A cute book with great illustrations. This could be used as a mentor text where students tell the story using sentences, or to get a discussion going about behaviour and teamwork with older kids. My grandson just liked making the noises and talking about the pictures. Vocabulary building and just plain fun are all part of this story.

Great illustrations. Could have used a little more variety in the text but still appropriate for the age range.

This is a “sounds” book and would be incredibly fun at story time. For the most part it is wordless, the words are sounds like Honk. Splat. Vroom. Some mice are on a road rally and the last one to the finish line is a rotten egg. But things get in the way and they will have to act like a team and make some new friend to get to the finish line.
