While Sheriff Lowry loves her Poppa and is always glad to see him, his ghostly presence always indicates that someone is going to die. So it is all well and good that Duke enjoys playing ball with Poppa, but Kenni is waiting for the news of someone's demise.

In the previous book, Momma won a baking contest with her delicious chicken pot pie. Now it is time for the renown chef Frank Von Lee to judge her pot pie against a nearby barbecue winner. Mama goes all out and gets a little botox filler so she will look good for her pictures-no lack of confidence there! A couple things go wrong and all of a sudden the doctor is treating people for the flu when they have botox poisoning, people are parking with illegal handicap tags, Momma has a black eye, chef at Ben's restaurant quits, a squabble amongst contractors arises, and oh yes, Frank is dead and Momma is the main suspect.

When Kenni gets taken off the case and Finn takes over, Kenni and Jolee have a chance to do some investigating, shopping, and cake baking. I have to say Kenni turning domestic was a fun and different side of Kenni we hadn't seen before. I liked the resolution of the book and the way an unexpected good deed turns out. It proves that small town living is all about bonding over troubles and helping others out.

Although the election, which most people hope will be a re-election of Sheriff Lowry, is inching it's way up the calendar, this book barely mentioned it-which I view as a positive point. Previously I felt the author pushed the re-election too much and too soon. I much preferred dealing with specific current issues within the town. Although I have to wonder when the Mayor is up for re-election and who might be around to win against him!

All through this book I felt Kenni was truly solving the mysteries her community was facing, and Poppa was flitting in and out because of his concern for his daughter. When he did give advice it was questionable and biased. Hooray for Kenni who has come into her own. I do enjoy Poppa, however I felt he was not a help in this book.

I enjoy my visits to Cottonwood and seeing the sheriff and deputy in action. I also like the various characters who are in the community and part of the books. It is a series that can be read by about anyone-no moments where you are embarrassed by language or activities, just murder, justice, and small town living.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy for my voluntary review.

Well Tonya did it again! I just love her books. This one had me laughing so hard at her mom who had gotten some bad Botox. Bless her heart, at the same time, she is accused of murder. The evidence is piling up on her. Can Kenni keep her job separate from her feelings for her mother and uphold the law no matter what the evidence proves? There were a lot of suspects to choose from which made it all the more interesting. As always, I love the dogs and cat. Kenni’s Papa is one of my favorites, even if he is a ghost. And Finn is so dreamy.

I read an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair review. I enjoyed Tonya Knappes’ lastest Kenni Lowry mystery. Kenni is a young sheriff in a small town in Kentucky. In this case Kenni found herself in the difficult position of trying to prove that her mother didn’t kill the famous television cooking star that had come to their town to judge her pot pie. I enjoyed getting to know Kenni and her family, Mama, the quintessential southern mother, Kenni ‘s deputy, who is also her boyfriend and even Poppa, the ghost of her former sheriff grandfather! Poppa comes back to help Kenni with her most difficult cases. Somehow this doesn’t seem ridiculous when you are reading it. Although the book is funny it is balanced with Kenni dealing with the serious issue of how far she will go to protect her Mama.

I love this series, and it just keeps getting better and better. Tonya Kappes writes fantastic books that keep me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I love Sheriff Kenni, and the cast of characters, especially Duke and Cozmo! I highly recommend Six Feet Under!

. This is the fourth in the Kendrick (Kenni) Lowry series.
I did enjoy the story even though I figured out who killed Frank Von Lee before I knew why he was killed. Frank, a food critic with a T.V. show, is killed the evening before the tasting of Vivian’s chicken pot pie that will put Ben’s restaurant on the map to celebrity. Viv becomes the prime suspect until Kenni, who has been removed as the lead investigator by the mayor, finds more evidence that clears her mother and implicates another suspect.
I didn’t like that Kenni’s mother was a whiney, needy mom but it soon gets better. I also have a hard time with the Sheriff and her only deputy dating and showing public displays of affection. As much as I may be rooting for them , I cannot condone the impropriety of this relationship.
I also liked the interaction between Kenni and her ghost grandfather and Duke, the dog.
This is a standalone with enough information that a new reader will not feel left out.

Tonya Kappes is the queen of coffee and mysteries. And the fourth installment in her Kenni Lowry series.

Cottonwood, Kentucky Sherriff Kenni Lowry has another murder on her hands and this time her Momma is at the top of the suspect list.

When The Culinary Channel heads to town to taste Viv Lowry’s award winning chicken pot pie, and Chef Frank Von Lee arrives in town. When he dies from eating poisoned chicken pot pie, Kenni has to find the real murdered before her Momma is sent to jail. But it’s not just a murder going on in town, there’s some bad botox and an illegal handicapped parking pass ring to expose as well.

Grab a cup of coffee, kick back and enjoy the story. If you’re not a coffee drinker, well then bess your heart and grab some sweet tea and enjoy. Either way, you’re going to enjoy the time spent in Cottonwood with Kenni and the locals as they work to find the murderer.

While this is the fourth in a series, I have not read the first three and this story stands alone quite well on it’s own.

Kenni Lowry, the sheriff of Cottonwood, Kentucky is solving another mystery. She is not alone though because she has help from the ghost of her Grandfather who use to be the sheriff. A chef has been killed and everyone thinks that Kenni's mother is the killer. It is up to her and her Grandfather to solve the case and maybe a cute deputy can help her too.
This series is so enjoyable to read. It is how a small town operates with everyone knowing everyone else's business.

Kenni and her crew are so fun. I really like her mama. I haven't read the other books in this series, but I will be getting them now. Very interesting characters and a good mystery. Kenni's mama is getting ready to show a famous chef that she has the best chicken pot pie. But, the chef turns up dead. Poisoned by a chicken pot pie. Kenni knows her mama wouldn't kill someone, so who did? After Kenni is taken off the case by the mayor, she is able to spend some time investigating some other suspects. She also has an illegal handicapped placard ring to figure out and some of the women in town are going to Botox parties. And they are getting sick after. Kenni needs to find the murderer, figure out who is making the placards and get the people who are illegally injecting Botox. Easy, right?

Dollycas’s Thoughts

The synopsis is right, “This book’s so delicious it’ll make your mouth water and leave you hankerin’ for more.” Those television people are in town and you just know there is going to be trouble.

Sheriff Kenni Lowry’s mama makes a scrumptious chicken pot pie and celebrity chef Frank Von Lee from the t.v. show Southern Home Cookin’ has come to town to check it out. He is also visiting another recipe contestant in a nearby town before he makes his final decision of which one to feature on his show. It is very surprising when the chef is found dead in his hotel room with a chicken pot pie nearby. Kenni’s mom becomes the prime suspect, and it is going to take everything Kenni and her ghostly grandfather can do to clear her of the crime. Some of the things they uncover are pretty shocking.

While reading this book I was reminded of a series of books written by J. J. Cook (Joyce and Jim Lavene), the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade Mysteries. In that series, like this one, the protagonist is assisted by her grandfather that happens to be a ghost. I have been missing those authors and that series. As I get further and further into this series by Tonya Kappes the feelings I had about the Lavene’s stories are rallying with this one.

This time with Kenni’s mother seemingly the only suspect, she is removed from the case, with her now boyfriend Finn taking it over. That doesn’t mean Kenni is done investigating, she just needs to be a little more careful so the mayor doesn’t get wind of what she is doing. I love the interplay between Kenni and her Poppa. He has had her back since she became sheriff. But, it is getting harder and harder to keep his ghost a secret. There are too many times she has been caught talking to “herself”. All the characters Ms. Kappes has created in this story are interesting and the main ones are very engaging.

The plot lines this time are full of goodies, fraudulent handicapped parking passes, a pop-up botox clinic, the antics of Kenni and her mama checking out the other recipe contestant (be prepared to laugh out loud), and the murder of chef Frank Von Lee. Tonya Kappes twists it all together to make one heck of a story.

Filled with Southern charm, humor, delightful characters, a smidgen of romance, and a well-plotted mystery Six Feet Under is an absolute must-read.

If this is a new series to you, start and the beginning, sit back, read and enjoy. You can thank me later 🙂

Six Feet Under is the is the fourth novel in the Kenni Lowry mystery series by Tonya Kappes. Although part of a series there is enough description so that it can stand alone but not so much as to bore the series follower, just remind them.

Famous chef and food critic Frank Von Lee of the Culinary channel’s Southern Home Cookin’ show is coming to town to judge Kenni’s momma’s chicken pot pie, a favorite at longtime friend Ben Harrison’s diner. Also in competition for the coveted show coverage is barbecue from a diner in nearby Clay’s Ferry.

There is quite a todo with the famous chef coming to Cottonwood. Ben is busy sprucing his diner up and has brought in a former culinary classmate to help while he supervises the remodel. Vivian Lowry, Kenni’s momma, has lost her everlovin’ mind in anticipation of the judging. And things go terribly awry when the famous Frank suddenly dies and it is found that he was poisoned by a chicken pot pie. Then the plot thickens, just like the special sauce in Viv’s pot pies.

Fast paced and twisty turny, it isn’t until the very end that the true murderer is discovered, although it is always a given that it was all circumstantial evidence lined up against Viv. But then, if not her, then who and why and how? With the prime suspect being Kenni’s momma, mayor Chance Ryland removes her from the case and places it in the hands of her deputy, and boyfriend, Finn Vincent. But, of course, that does little to thwart Kenni’s investigation into who might have wanted this critic, who was known to either make or break a person with his sharp tongue, dead.

Ms. Kappes has once again treated us to a delicious cozy with delightful, if flawed, characters. She lovingly writes of a landscape she knows well and shares that knowledge with her readers such that you feel right at home in Fayette County, Kentucky. I do recommend this read and look forward to the next installment of the Kenni Lowry saga, Dead as a Doornail.

What a great Southern mystery. I loved this book!
Lots of mystery, and laugh out loud moments.. the southern sayings put a smile on my face every time.
I didn't figure out who the killer was until it was revealed in the book.. A page turner from start to finish.
The characters in the book were so easy to relate to, especially if you live in a small town haha.

The fourth book in the Kenni Lowery Series and my favorite so far. I love the small town southern charm, humor and manners. Tonya’s books are funny and keep you guessing until the end. This one is no different. The team of Kenni and Ghost Poppa just are so great together. A good mystery, a little romance what more could you ask for? This book was hard to put down, so many twists and turns. Each book in this series just gets better and better. I highly recommend this book it is a fun read and if you like a little romance, southern humor and are a fan of cozy mysteries this book is for you.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked that Kenni and her mom were the main characters in this addition to the Kenni Lowry series. The story was weaved nicely between the murder and mysteries handicap permits. Tonya Kappes writes southern cozies like no one else and I recommend this book and series to everyone

The Culinary Channel is headed to Cottonwood, KY, and Sheriff Kenni Lowry’s mama Vivian is excited because celebrity chef Frank Von Lee will be tasting and reviewing her chicken pot pie. However, things go sour quickly when Frank is found dead, and Vivian is the prime suspect. Will her legacy include being a murderer? Can Kenni put aside her personal connection and prove her mama is innocent, all with the help of Poppa (her grandfather, who’s the ex-sheriff … and also a ghost!)?

This is #4 in the “Kenni Lowry Mystery” series. It’s the only installment I’ve read so far, and it can easily stand alone. Enough background information is provided to make the reader feel right at home in Cottonwood. This cozy mystery is full of Southern charm, fun characters, and a small-town setting that pulls the reader in. The storyline is solid, and there’s a mix of mystery and a bit of romance, with a ghost thrown into the mix. The pacing is appropriate to allow the reader to follow the clues and twists along the way.

Mayberry is alive and well but now known as Cottonwood KY. Great folks living life in a slow down mode with a mix of gossip being added for some spice. Murder again sets Sheriff Kenni Lowry on the trail to justice with the help of her grand POPPA's ghost. This crime is especially tasty because it involves a restaurant critic and KENNI's Mom. Kenni's mom makes the best chicken pot pie but will it make the spot light? There are other books by Tonya Kappes revolving around Sheriff Lowry but they stand alone. "A copy of this book was provided by Henery Press via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion." Enjoy this sweet mystery!

This series is a favorite of mine. It has everything a cozy needs - humor, a good mystery, not too much drama, and - of course - a loyal pet. Ok, that last one may not be important to everyone, but I love it when pets are included in books. One thing that makes this series unique is that Kenni, being a sheriff, actually has a valid reason to investigate murders. This creates a little bit of conflict of interest when her mother becomes the main suspect, along with somehow being tangled up in other minor cases at the same time. Overall it was a highly enjoyable addition to a wonderful series.

Sheriff Kenni Lowry is in the middle of a murder, but like no other case, this one has her mother Vivian on the center stage. Vivian is excited about the cooking show TV host who will be trying her famous chicken pot pie recipe to be featured on his show. When he winds up dead, signs point to chicken pot pie as the culprit. Knowing she cannot investigate the case when her mother is involved, she assigns her handsome deputy Finn Vincent to work on it. Although she has been ordered not to be involved, she and ghost grandfather cannot help but meddle. Kenni's interaction with her mother is classic mother-daughter dialog.

Kenni works as the sheriff in Cottonwood, Kentucky who also has to keep tabs on her mother Vivian who will be featured on a cooking show with her chicken pot pie. When she is accused of murdering the judge, Kenny must solve it to avoid arresting her own mother. There are some very funny moments in this mystery along with plenty of down-home charm.

I obtained this book through Net Galley and have given an honest review.

Sheriff Kenni and the gang are back and it looks like trouble has hit close to home. A food critic has been killed and it looks like Kenni’s mama is the prime suspect. This crime will test the strength of more than one relationship in Kenni’s life.
Six Feet Under is a fast paced, well written, intriguing mystery with a great cast of characters that will leave you hungry for more.
