Kenni Lowry is the sheriff of Cottonwood, Kentucky, where she took over the position from her deceased Poppa, Elmer Sims. The town of Cottonwood is about to have a celebrity chef, Frank Von Lee, who is also a food critic, paying a visit. Kenni's mama, Vivian Lowry, won a cooking contest for her chicken pot pie. Vivian is one of two contestants, who will have their dishes featured on Von Lee's Culinary Channel.

When Kenni's Poppa shows up in ghost form, although happy to see him, Kenni knows it's not for a good reason. Poppa shows up whenever there is a murder.

Unfortunately, before any filming for the Culinary Channel could be done, Kenni got a call about an unresponsive male. When Kenni shows up to investigate, she finds incriminating evidence pointing at her mama. When Vivian sports a black eye, then the gossip starts flying.

With Kenni being so close to the case, she is pulled off it. Finn Vincent, Kenni's boyfriend and deputy, is handed the case to solve. When Finn listens to a conversation taped by Kenni, that has Kenni talking to her Poppa. The conversation with her Poppa wasn't supposed to be taped and puts Kenni in a bad light. It causes friction between Finn and Kenni, and leaves Kenni in a bind on whether or not to confide to Finn about her Poppa.

This is a great mystery, with a lot of shenanigans involved that only add to the story. Great read!

I absolutely love Tonya Kappes books! This one is no exception! This story is fun, captures your attention and moves along at a nice steady clip. Although this book can be read as a standalone, it is a bit easier to follow (the characters) if you've read the previous Kenni Lowry books. Nonetheless, the same familiar characters cross paths in this delightful whodunit. Without revealing any spoilers, it is clear from the beginning that Kenni (Sheriff Lowry) will struggle with her obligation to the community, although she maintains that she can remain fair and impartial when her mom is accused of murder. As the story unfolds, several other side stories develop, several other suspects are revealed, some friendships/relationships are challenged, and the ending is certainly not what you think it might be! This installment in the Kenni Lowry mystery series is just as entertaining as the ones before, and makes you look forward to the next...If I could give 10 stars I would!

Likeable characters, a quirky ghost and an intriguing murder mystery makes this latest book from Tonya Kappes an entertaining read.

Kenni Lowry is the sheriff of small-town Cottonwood, Kentucky. She's happy in her job, taking over from her Grandfather 'Poppa', who's now a ghost and shows up to help when something bad is about to happen in their tight-knit community.

Her mama Vivian is over the moon because having won a contest for her chicken pot pie, it's now bringing to town Chef Frank Von Lee, who has a show on television and Vivian is one of two contestants to be interviewed, with the chef picking the best dish.

As if that's not enough, people are being seen all over town with pink handicapped stickers for their cars which are obviously illegal; someone is running an illegal Botox ring, and she's also navigating her new romantic relationship with her deputy Finn Vincent, and hasn't decided on a way to tell him about her Poppa; which, while they're still figuring it out, will have take second place to the fact that shortly after Frank arrived - he died.

Kenni received a call from the inn where he was staying, and it appears at first that he died from a heart attack. But while in his room, she notices what's left of a pot pie and a memo he left behind stating it was from Vivian, and that from all appearances, it was store-bought. While Kenni doesn't believe it for a minute, her mother has been acting strangely - including getting Botox injections, and now has a black eye she won't talk about.

So with Viv being the main suspect, Kenni is pulled from the case and Finn takes the lead. But this is her mama and she's not going to sit back and watch her being railroaded for something she didn't do. Once Kenni starts her own investigation, she learns that there's more than one person who might have had a finger in the pie and wanted Frank dead; but in order to pull Viv's fat out of the fire, they need to sift through the suspects and figure out which one wanted him cooked for good...

As always, Ms. Kappes has turned out a top-notch mystery about another murder in this little Southern town. The usual residents make an appearance, of course, with the focus shifting on her mother this time around. While, for the most part, the townspeople don't think Viv killed a man, there's still the circumstantial evidence - even if it doesn't make sense to Kenni and Finn. Still, they need to strike quickly before a killer gets away.

There's so much going on that it's hard to decide what the best part of the book is. I can honestly say that I enjoyed this one as much as the others, and that's quite a bit. The author pulls us into Cottonwood's quirky characters' lives, making you either want to visit there or decide to keep your sanity and just stay away altogether!

When the ending comes and the killer is discovered, I have to say that it was done nicely. The clues were all there, but it was interwoven in a delightful manner so that unless you were actually looking for them, you may miss them entirely. I look forward to the next in the series. Highly recommended.

This is another wonderful Kenni Lowry Mystery by a pretty terrific author! The book is set in the small town of Cottonwood, Kentucky, where the antics of the townspeople make you laugh and keeps you entertained. Kenni Lowry is the town sheriff and her deceased "Pops", the former sheriff, tends to pop in whenever there is a murder to solve. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Kenni's mom is one of my favorite residents of Cottonwood. I love that she had a bigger role in Six Feet Under, even if it was because she was the number one suspect for the murder of a celebrity chef. I was entertained by her antics throughout this book.

Knowing that her Poppa only appears when there is going to be trouble. Kenni and her dog Duke are the only ones that can hear and see him gets her into funny situations. Viv her mamma was going to be interviewed by a food critic when he was found dead and all clues pointed to Viv. Kenni, Finn and Poppa look into all the clues to find the real murderer. Lots of suspense!

I love this series! (Of course, I love all of Ms. Kappes’ books.) I like that the main character is a woman and a sheriff. I also like the ghostly visits from her grandfather, who was the former sheriff of their small town. Ms. Kappes puts her Southern personality into all of her books! This book kept me reading with all the plot turns and twists. SIX FEET UNDER, the fourth book in the Kenni Lowry Mystery series, is a delightful trip to Cottonwood, KY, where everyone knows everyone else’s business and Sheriff Kenni Lowry balances small town life and solving crime with the help of her grandfather’s ghost and boyfriend deputy sheriff.

This time around, the town is a buzz with excitement at the arrival of celebrity chef turned food critic Fran Von Lee to review Kenni’s momma’s chicken pot pie. However, Frank dies shortly after coming to town, and Vivian Lowry (Kenni’s mother) immediately takes her place at the top of the suspect list. All of the evidence points to Viv, and Kenni is tempted, ever briefly, to sacrifice her morals to save her mother. Though she is taken off the case, she does all she can to clear Viv’s name and unmask the real killer. Throw in a rash of counterfeit handicap placards, feuding construction contractors, and illegal Botox parties to the mix, and Kenni is busier than ever.

I really enjoy the Kenni Lowry mysteries, and the series is my favorite that Tonya Kappes writes. Here she pens a really compelling mystery, made all the more nail-biting by the inclusion of Kenni’s mother as a suspect. For a good portion of the book, I second guessed her innocence. Not that Kappes does not provide other suspects; there are several that have even better motivation than Viv to kill Frank. The story movies along at a steady pace, and I found myself absorbed in Kenni’s world, feeling like I had to find the answers, reading well past my bedtime.

I like Kenni a great deal, but she does a lot of unprofessional things throughout the investigation. The case is just too close to her. I also find her relationship with her deputy sheriff Finn a touch strange. Perhaps the small town setting allows for the romantic relationship between the only members of the sheriff’s office, and their relationship does add some conflict and dimension to the story. Of course, I adore Poppa and Kenni’s bloodhound Duke.

I recommend SIX FEET UNDER to any cozy mystery reader. I guarantee you will enjoy your time spent in Cottonwood with Kenni and crew.

Review:

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and her ability to create a small town Southern setting. You can tell she knows the ins and outs of places in the South and she creates towns that are spot on. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery was carried on well throughout the entire book. There were plenty of suspects to consider and enough clues to sift through that I never really did figure out the culprit until it was revealed at the end.

The characters are well developed and well rounded. They seem very realistic to me because they all have their flaws. In this book we see Kenni almost crossing the boundaries of what is ethical and what is not. She wants to do whatever it takes to make sure that the primary suspect in the murder case is proven innocent but she just might have to cross a line that is best left not crossed. Poppa has once again come from the afterlife to help Kenni and I just love the interaction between him and Kenni. We should all be so lucky to have someone like Poppa in our lives.

I would recommend this book, and series, to anyone who enjoys a well crafted paranormal cozy. With great characters, a homey setting and a well plotted mystery, what’s not to love?

You just can't miss with a Tonya Kappes mystery. Her talent from writing a whodunit, and her southern charm, always make for a fun read. SIX FEET UNDER is total proof of that!

My first Tonya Kappes mystery and I am so very glad that I requested an ARC as I have now discovered a new author to enjoy. Sheriff Kenni Lowry's Mama was expecting an amazing review from Frank Von Lee, the famous food critic, for her chicken pot pie. Mama even had the reporter from the local newspaper interviewing her before, in preparation for the big day when Frank’s review makes her famous. And of course, the hair and makeup to look good on national TV. But she did not expect to find herself on the local newspapers as Suspect no. 1 in the murder of Frank Von Lee. Mayor Ryland who never did like Kenni, wants her off the case, implying that Kenni may not be impartial in the investigation and hell of course not, Kenni will try her darnest to clear Mama because she know that she is innocent but she will not compromise herself and her job in any way if Mama was not. Kenni takes her oath as a law man very seriously, but when other suspects show up, she is only too happy to make sure that she get the correct killer.

Very exciting mystery, well written plot, and I enjoyed the book very much. Will certainly recommend it and will be on the look out for more of the same!

Kenni Lowry was the sheriff of a small Kentucky town and her late grandfather had also been the sheriff. So when she saw his ghost, she knew that a murder was soon to occur. The ghost helped her solve the few murders that occurred there previously.

Kenni’s mother, Viv, was a genteel Southern lady and a renowned cook. So when Viv heard about a competition to feature a classic Southern dish on the Culinary Channel show, Southern Home Cookin’, hosted by Chef Frank Von Lee, she submitted a local newspaper article about her tasty chicken pot pie. Chef Von Lee decided to travel to the area to chose between Vic’s dish and one served at a barbecue joint in a nearby town. Only one dish would be featured on the show.

Viv and Chef Von Lee met at his hotel the afternoon before the competition. Then later that night his dead body was discovered in his room at the hotel. A plate with a chicken pot pie was in the room and it soon was discovered that the chef had been killed by a poison in the pot pie. That made Viv the number one suspect.

Because of her mother, the mayor decided to remove Kenni from the investigation and replace her with her deputy (and love interest) Finn. Kenni was disappointed but continued to investigate the murder with the help of her grandfather’s ghost.

This book oozes with small town Southern charm and manners as well as the pettiness of the people in these towns. It is short and part of a series of books about Kenni Lowery.

With the Culinary Channel's show Southern Home Cookin' planning an episode at Ben's diner, renovations are being made in preparation for food critic, Frank Von Lee, to visit and judge the featured chicken pot pie by Kenni's Momma. But when the food critic is found dead, possibly as a result of foul play, Sheriff Kenni Lowry has to work hard with her ghost grandfather, to prove that her mother is not the prime suspect in his death. I love the relationship between Kenni and her mother, as well as her interactions with her ghost partner, Poppa. I also enjoyed the developing relationship between Kenni and her deputy, Finn. This was a fun mystery story with several suspects and motives, and side plots involving counterfeit handicap hangtags, as well as an illegal botox ring. There were even several laugh-out-loud moments, helping to offset the dangers Kenni faces in her job as Sheriff. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing this advance reading copy of the book.

Kenni and Finn are definitely a couple now and things are quiet in their small town. Until Poppa pops back up and you know what that means - another murder. Who is the number one suspect? Momma is in trouble - could she have really committed the crime? There are several things going on in this book - romance, murder, illegal activity, momma acting strangely, etc. Love the small town and its crazy residents.

Kenni Lowry has had another murder in her small town and her mother is the prime suspect. As sheriff, she can no longer be on the case but her deputy and boyfriend, Finn, can take over. While investigating illegal Botox injections and fake handicapped stickers, Kenni has the ghost of her Poppa to help her. I love the way Tanya’s books fit every piece of the puzzle together at the end.

A rollicking good time with a terrific cast of characters, fantastically funny laugh out loud moments and a great storyline. This series only gets better with each new addition.

Poppa is back again, so Sheriff Kenni Lowry knows something is going to happen. But what and who is going to end up dead?? That is the question.
Although this time her momma is thick in the middle of it, and a suspect when a body is found. With the help of Poppa and Finn, now her boyfriend as well the deputy of Cottonwood. Kenni needs to solve the case and hopefully keep her momma out of jail.
I love this series. The small town feeling always draws me in, as does the friendships and family. The characters have flaws which make them more relatable as you read.
