The overall theme of this book can be summarized in the author’s words - “Together we’ll discover the evidence that making a difference in the world is the best way to make a difference to our own happiness.” The book strikes an encouraging tone with a lot of specific large and small suggestions. The only critique I have is that the author sometimes appears to be talking down to the reader, as if lecturing someone less intelligent or accomplished. Still, I found the book to be quite enjoyable and it did provide useful and thoughtful ideas for improving oneself and the world around us.

Great title, terrific cover art....so much to like about this book. How about the idea of "feeling good by doing good"? Who doesn't want that? The author isn't afraid to dive in the deep end and wade through tough choices, being brave and determined and willing to give it her all. She has important ideas and valuable experience, a rousing manner that kept me reading long after I would have thrown it aside for its uneven, indifferently paced presentation. It baffled me that an accomplished person who has made such enormous contributions addressed the reader as if talking with a bright, blank mind, the way that some people speak to small children or those who they deem incompetent or wrong. Possibly this book would have made an excellent, in-depth article. Possibly this book would have benefited from a professional writer stepping in to organize, to address the reader with respect instead of patronizing sweetness and light and "it's going to be tough, but we can do it!" aphorisms. I apologize in advance to the author; she is a force for good, no doubt about it. This book is not.

I had picked up this book thinking it was for self help and motivation. I was pleasantly surprised. The author talks about and lists how we can pick up a social cause and how personal changes can improve us as well as the society. An important issue that has imminent danger like global warming ,and how we can change ourselves and help support this cause has been effectively discussed in this book.
Hats off to the author for a good book and picking up a present-day topic.
