BARRELED OVER - Jenna Sutton

#1 in the Trinity Distillery romance series

A LITTLE TOO BLATANT - 3 stars

Plot - 4 stars - Ava Grace, a top Nashville star, needs more male fans. And Trinity Distillery needs more female customers. Both parties decide to join forces and help each other to expand their markets. What they didn't expect was that the two main players would fall for each other.

Writing - 3 stars - I enjoyed the story right from the first page, although I was disappointed that the author depended too much on obvious sexual comments rather than building the sexual tension more subtly.

Characters - 3.5 stars - The characters are pleasant and friendly. Beck is a complicated man, with a lot of baggage, who has survived many problems that happened in his past through no fault of his own. Ava Grace is sweet and talented, but she has a core of steel and comes from sturdy stock. They are attracted to each other immediately. I didn't particularly care for Ava Grace being so sleazy when getting to know Beck. It's one thing to show that you're interested, but it's another to be so obvious about it. Rather than build the tension between them, they both had strong sexual thoughts. Nothing wrong with that, but it just felt like too much, too fast, with little lead-in. The best characters were Beck's friends (Ren and Gabe) and Ava Grace's friend (Amelia).

Title - 3 stars - The title makes sense, but it's not really all that flattering. Isn't the term "bowled over"? Barreled over seems manufactured simply to fit the bourbon theme.

Cover - 3 stars - At first glance, it's difficult to decipher the cover. The colors are not particularly bright, and the characters seem to get lost against the background. Definitely not my favorite, and this did not entice me to read the book.

Overall - 3 stars - At first read, this book is fine--a typical romance with a bourbon distillery theme. The romance portion is nice, although I felt it was a little too obvious and would have benefited from being softer and building more slowly. There was way too much background in bourbon distilling for me. It was interesting to a point, but I felt that it went on too long, and I found myself skipping over much of the explanation. The book got better as it went along (perhaps the author got more comfortable?), and my favorite part was the epilogue.

I received Barreled Over (Trinity Distillery #1) by Jenna Sutton for free in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed it. It was a good romance-- a little predictable, but enjoyable.

Ava Grace & Beck's love story was a great twist on a modern romance novel, with her being the celebrity and he being the businessman. This was a great, fast read, and I look forward to her continuing this series.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

I adored this story. I loved all the characters. (I have to go back and read Quinn's and Amelia's story now). Beck was so humanized in this story. His fear of getting hurt again by another woman (first his Mother and then a live-in girlfriend) was so touching that I couldn't stop feeling for him. Ava Grace was the complete opposite. She was so loving and giving that she touched a special place in the heart. The story of how these two completely different people came together for their HEA, was a fantastic read. It was hard to put down (I did fix dinner at least!) I was completely enthralled right from the beginning page here. I was so sorry to see the ending but the Epilogue was a beautiful glimpse in their future.

Yes, there were sex scenes here but they added to the story, they weren't the whole story. There were some "F" words but at least the author didn't use slang or vulgar terms to describe body parts.

The story was written in a dual POV. I love this. Since I haven't experienced what these characters have been though, so I don't know how I would react. At least, I know what the character is going through and why. I took a class once, and one of the main things I learned was if you haven't been through something, you don't know what someone else is feeling when they are going through it. It is so very true. I appreciate the author's giving me these details.

I will also mentioned that the author was very good at giving us the reader a thorough detail of the process of distilling bourbon. It was fascinating to read. There was never a boring section or should I say, a section that went over my head here. I will have to purchase a bottle as some of the ideas for recipes sounded to good to pass by!

I look forward to more stories in this series. I hope that Kyle and Mercy get a story soon.

Every now and again, you read a book frustrates you… but you love it! That is this book for me!! “Barreled Over” is about Ava Grace, one of country music’s biggest stars, and Jonah Beck (known to friends and family as Beck), son of the family that is synonymous with bourbon. While Ava Grace is battling her record company who wants her top broaden her fan base of just women, with wacky ideas of how to do that, Beck is trying to make a name for himself. Together, they can help each other, and find love at the same time!

Everything about this story is adorable and funny, with great characters. While the two main characters have some not-so-great things in their in past and I understand why they are the way they are, I found myself almost liking the secondary characters more than the main characters. As this is my first book by this author, it felt as though I should already know some of the characters. It didn’t detract from the story, but it did make me wonder if I was missing out.

The chemistry between Ava Grace and Beck is wonderful. They have great banter and the chemistry is instant. What I loved about this book is the bourbon lessons you get! I know it’s not the point of this book, nor is it meant to be the focus, but I thought it was fascinating and a nice addition to the story. With Ava Lucas's narration bringing this story to life, you couldn't go wrong. I am intrigued to see where this series will go, as I enjoyed getting to know Ava Grace and Beck.

Barreled Over is the first in the next series by Jenna Sutton, and it builds upon the wonderful characters we all fell in love with in the Riley series.

The Trinity Distillery is a craft liquor company owned and run by three unattached guys, and first up for the story is Beck. He has a tough past, a tough exterior but a soft center. And he is lucky enough to meet Ava Grace, whose backstory is a country song.

Truly enjoyed this one. She is one of my most favorite Contemporary Romance authors.

When country star Ava Grace is told by her label that she needs to start appealing to a more male dominated audience, does she go the obvious route and start using her sexuality to do so? Nope, she's smart and not willing to go that way. Instead, she partners up with a distillery; a distillery whose owner she never imagined would come to mean so much to her.

Beck and his two best friends run a craft distillery in San Francisco, and they're making a go of it. He has a lot of demons riding him, and the last thing he needs, or wants, is to get involved with a woman so prevalent in the the spotlight. He abhors the spotlight and can't imagine anything worse than constantly being in it. But, he can't seem to resist Ava Grace's charm, and soon they're involved in a seriously hot affair. How can two such different people make a relationship work? A woman whose life is lived in the spotlight (even if she isn't exactly thrilled about it) and a man who shuns the spotlight?

There's definitely a lot of push and pull on Beck's part, to Ava Grace's (and mine) dismay, and I felt for her. She was pretty awesome - smart, tough, and strong, and for her to have to deal with someone who pulled her close then pushed her away, was pretty disheartening. Thank God Beck finally pulled his head out of his ass, though, cuz I was wondering if they'd ever get it together.

I really liked Barreled Over and am looking forward to more of this series.

Jenna Sutton's Barreled Over is fantastic! It's the first book in her new series and if this is any indicator as to how awesome this series is going to be I am so ready to read the next book!

Okay when I got this book I was lile another country musician love story. Boy, was I wrong. We have Jenna Sutton showing us a real country star who by far is true all the way. Then we have a man who doesn’t want the limelight but wants his woman. Ava Grace Landy is the Carrie Underwood rags to riches woman in this book. Right away readers will love her for her feisty attitude and take no bullshit. Her career might end if she doesn’t attract more fans but she doesn’t fall for the raunchy things. Then we have Beck who is the one man to make her feel alive. The sex between them is hot but more than just their love. We see a man who is determined to make his business popular again and boy will I never look at bourbon the same way. Jenna Sutton just wowed me in this book and cannot wait to see what else in store from her. Loved it.

“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”

This book was well written, I did enjoy it but it was very descriptive! In the beginning I think there was a whole chapter of more of just describing everything about bourbon! How to make it how to taste it, and I mean really descriptive! So that was interesting at first then just boring sorry, this book is ava Grace and Becks book, ava is a music superstar and needs a bigger male audience and Becks family has owned a bourbon distillery for many many generations! Men like bourbon so they partner up so that ava is the bourbon spokesperson! It's a light fun read little steamy too!! I do recommend reading it, like I said it was very well written and I think a lot of people will enjoy it! Thank you Jenna Sutton and NetGalley for sharing this book with me!

Enjoyed the Riley O'Brien & Co. series set in SF and as I was figuring out what to pack for a looong flight, I knew I needed to take this Trinity Distillery #1 with me since it was clearly a sister series to Riley & Co. and set in the same world. Predictably I got hooked on this before my flight even took off, however, I did think the insta-love/lust didn't really explain the "come on strong" these characters have. Despite not getting action for years, I still don't think I'd ever throw myself as a public figure like Ava Grace did. Also, I would've given up some of the hot-and-bother scenes for more story-character development, which I know Jenna can do.

Barreled Over was a fun read. I was laughing so hard at one of the scenes when they were having sex in the room with the barrels and she got splinters in her butt. I know that doesn't sound funny but you would have to read it. I loved this book it wasn't overly sexual, ( like on every page and repetitive) and had plenty of fun moments too. Try it you will not be disappointed.

Barreled Over by Jenna Sutton is the first book in her new Trinity Distillery series. Having read & enjoyed Sutton’s previous series (Riley O’Brien & Co.), I looked forward to starting this series, and I am happy to say I loved Barreled Over.

When we meet, Ava Grace Landy, our heroine and a famous country music star, she is at a meeting with the new boss of her record label company. Though she is one of the top selling country stars, her boss feels she needs to open her music to attract more male audiences. Ava Grace will meet with the owners of Trinity Distillery, to become their spokesperson for a big promotional endorsement that will benefit both of them. Her best friend, Amelia (heroine from Riley O’Brien), is married to one of the four owners of Trinity,
Jonah Beck, our hero, isn’t crazy about bringing in Ava Grace, but his partners feel this is an opportunity to promote their great bourbon. Beck finds himself attracted to the beautiful, outgoing & bubbly Ava Grace, but he is determined to not become involved with her, especially due to her very public life. Beck has never forgotten the scandal when he was a teenager, with his deceased father that makes him avoid the media as much as possible.

Ava Grace previously met Beck at Amelia’s wedding and was attracted to him then. Now as they begin to work closely together, Beck finds the attraction becoming too strong to resist, especially with Ava Grace doing all she can to seduce him. Right from the start, we saw the sizzling chemistry between them, and I loved them together. However, the issues they both had in their lives didn’t make things easy for them. Ava Grace was famous, with the media always following her; she also had a father suffering from the late & violent stages of Alzheimer’s disease, which she kept secret from the public. Beck having lived through the harsh publicity from his father, wanted nothing to do with Ava Grace’s lifestyle. Would they find a way to stay together?

What follows is a wonderful sweet story about two people who despite their hot chemistry do not seem right for each other based on their location and lifestyles. Beck loves his bourbon business, which his in San Francisco; and Ava Grace lives in Nashville, where her career is centered. One of the fun parts of this book is that we get to learn a lot of the making of bourbon, and the different recipes to use with it.

Sutton’s always creates wonderful characters that we come to love, and it is no different in Barreled Over. Besides having already loved Amelia and Quinn previously, I really liked Beck’s other two partners, Ren and Gabe. I also liked Kyle, the caregiver for Ava Grace’s father, which did have a number of emotional situations that stressed on this terrible disease.

Barreled Over was a great read, which also had a bit of everything; hot romance, sexy couple, great characters, music and bourbon backgrounds, as well as emotional moments. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and I strongly suggest you read Barreled Over to start this series.

I absolutely loved this book! I was excited that Ava Grace finally got her story, and I love Beck!!!

Due to a management change at her record label, Ava Grace is told she needs to attract more male fans. Not liking any of the suggestions, she ends up becoming a spokesperson for a bourbon company, and involved with one of its founders, Beck. Great characters, and great storytelling. I like this author and recommend this new series.

This was my first book by Jenna Sutton. I picked it up because it's set in San Francisco, a city I love, and features craft bourbon production and a country music superstar heroine. Ava Grace, the heroine, is great. She is a smart, strong, loyal, hardworking country music superstar who came from a humble background, and got her start by winning a TV singing contest. She never forgets where she came from, and treats everyone with respect even when they don't do the same in return. She meets Beck, the hero, when her record label forces her to try to expand her appeal to men, as most of her fans are female. Her best friend's husband is invested in a start-up bourbon distillery that is trying to distinguish themselves and suggests that Ava Grace become their spokeperson. It will be a win/win - the distillery will use Ava Grace to draw more women, while Ava Grace can use Trinity Bourbon to get her record company off her back.

Beck is one of the owners of the distillery. Right from the start, there is tons of chemistry between them, but he comes from a famous Kentucky bourbon family with a huge scandal in his past and he prefers to stay far away from any kind of publicity, plus he is quite mistrustful of women. In his mind, a relationship with a country music superstar is something to avoid at all cost no matter how much he likes her and is attracted to her.

Unfortunately, although I loved Ava Grace, I couldn't connect to Beck. He constantly pushed her away throughout the book, insisting their relationship couldn't work. No matter what she did to show him how much she cared and was invested in the relationship, he continued to expect her to just get up and walk away. I think my problem was that she was clearly a caring, kind, loyal person and he never really saw that or admitted how special she was. Because of this, I liked the book, but I didn't love it.

I did love all of the information that was thrown in about bourbon production and it's obvious that the author did her homework there. There were also some great ideas in the book for cooking with bourbon since Ava Grace was planning to write a cookbook featuring it in order to promote the distillery. I'm intrigued by some of the secondary characters who will (obviously) be featured in later books, so I may give a later book in the series a try.

4 1/2 STARS!

Opposites attract ... and ignite! With the first book in her new Trinity Distillery series, Jenna Sutton takes us along for the ride as we meet the men behind this bourbon distillery. The backstory is built up nicely for Beck and the characters we meet are fun and sassy. The heat between Beck and AG is sexy with a side of sweet. I really enjoyed the first in the series and look forward to more!

Country music sweetheart Ava Grace Landry is happily basking in her dream come true career when all of a sudden a shake-up at her record label leaves her with an obnoxious jerk of a boss who's threatening to dump her contract if she doesn't increase her male audience demographic! She needs help ... and fast!

Jonah Beck is only slightly hesitant at the idea of bringing Ava Grace on as the spokesperson for his Trinity bourbon. Her appeal with definitely draw in the male buyer, but the instantaneous attraction he feels to her might be a problem! They know their lifestyles don't exactly mix, but that doesn't stop the sparks that fly every time they are in the same proximity. They try to keep their relationship private, but the press are always near ... when secrets are exposed and scandal ensues, will what they're feeling for each other be worth risking everything for?
