I enjoyed the story, though short, and loved the different tales of real octopuses and their antics and escapes. Unfortunately formatting wasn't great for reading on my kindle so I wasn't able to fully appreciate the illustrations and some of the text formatting got muddled and was hard to read.

This fun rhyming story is about an octopus named Inky who has been enjoying his life in his tank, but now aches to see more of the world And somehow, he manages to escape and venture out into the world. It's based on a true story and also includes some other fun, true, and crazy octopus antics.

The bulk of it is full of fun octopus trivia, making it a fun research tool for older kids. The first part, which is the picture book part, is fun for younger kids to read. Adjust your presentation of it accordingly depending on the age and level of children's you're sharing it with. Let them explore it on their own to get out of it what they can at their own level.

Thank you to NetGalley for the review copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh man, Inky and his exciting travels. There is no limit to what this slippery octopus will get up to. My kids thought it was a such a fun tale and were happy for Inky when he found freedom. I would have liked better use of bright, vivid colors, the illustrations while cute, could have been more vibrant.

'Other Odd Octopuses' is very funny. The reader will find the facts in 'Are you Squidding Me?!' fascinating.
Elementary school students are going to love it. It is a must have for all school libraries.

This was a really good book and the artwork was very well done. It is also interesting because it is a true story. I think any child would like this book to be read to them. It would also be good for school projects about octopuses. Near the end, the book had a neat summary about other octopuses that have tried to escape and if they were successful or not. It also shows how smart animals are, especially ones that we do not see in our daily lives. It is a charming true story.

Inky the Octopus thinks he should be thankful for his life in his tank, especially since he eats like a king, but his heart wants something more. He's curious about life outside the tank. So what is an octopus to do? Break out to find the open ocean of course. And when his tank lid is left ajar one night, Inky finds his opportunity.

Inky the Octopus is a fun story based on true events. The true story is detailed in the back of the book along with a few other true octopus tales and some fun facts about octopuses.

Through gorgeous artwork and charming poetry with a hint of rhyme, Inky the Octopus tells the story of Inky, a curious octopus resident at the National Aquarium of New Zealand. This clever creature escaped one night, when his tank lid had been accidentally left loose. It is believed that Inky escaped back to the sea. He had come to the aquarium after having been found injured, and it seems he longed to return home once recovered!

At the end of the book is a brief section recapping the true story of Inky and his escape, followed by a page about other unusual octopi. There's Otto, who would short circuit the lights by squirting water at them, Flo, who unscrewed a valve and flooded her tank with sea water, and Sid, who tried escaping so many times the aquarium decided to release him back to the sea. That same aquarium was also home to Harry, another Houdini octopus who would leave his tank and visit a neighboring tank to dine on crayfish. This fellow was so clever he would put the tank lids back perfectly, leaving workers to puzzle over the mysteriously vanishing crayfish! Lastly, there is a section with neat facts about these clever critters, and their closest kin- squid and nautilus.

This book is too adorable for words! The artwork is stunning! I read this with my cubs, and it became a fast favourite, right up there with Little Moon by Megan Padalecki. It also became a fav with Uncle Niall, who loves squid and octopi. This is a book we will definitely be adding to our collection in hardcover. Perfect for the child interested in nature and sea life.

It was amazing!

Love, love, love it. We need more children’s books like this. This is the story about a real life octopus who lived in the National Aquarium of New Zealand in Napier. While my copy was an ARC downloaded to my kindle, I could tell the illustrations were very well done. I think illustrations in children's books are extremely important.

The beginning of the story is about Inky, who was rescued and lived for quite a long time at the aquarium. Later, the reader gets to meet other octopuses where were rescued, like Sid, Flo, Harry Houdini, and others. There is a fun and creative question and answer section in the book. Questions like:
"How many tentacles do octopuses have again? Trick question! The answer is zero! Octopuses actually have no tentacles at all--they have 4 pair of arms."

There is a fact section which I loved. A lot of interesting facts for young minds but for old ones like myself too.
So cute for young readers. I plan to pick up a copy for my classroom.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this. 5 stars! I loved everything about this!

Oh man, what a cute story! The artwork is great and the story is based on a true story. The rhyming was clever. I loved the extra true stories from different aquariums at the end describing adventures of other crafty octopuses. I enjoyed it as much as my little girls did!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book, which I voluntarily reviewed.

My favorite part of this book was the back matter; as I read it, I thought to myself, "Sure. That would happen." Then I was excited to find out it was a true story. I have read and seen quite a bit about octopi (and even had my students dissect their close relative, the squid), They really are intelligent creatures. I have been so impressed with the back matter in children's books lately; it makes it so easy to elevate the book from more than an entertaining story to a learning experience as well.

Inky the Octopus by Erin Guendelsberger is a picturebook based on a real story, but from the perspective of the octopus in question. It is currently scheduled for release on April 3 2018. This story chronicles the adventure that the real-life Inky might have taken on his escape to freedom in the open ocean from the National Aquarium of New Zealand in 2016. After the entertaining tale, there is a more text heavy recounting of his adventure, tales of other aquarium house octopi, and facts about different kinds of octopi.

Inky the Octopus is an easy read, with fun rhymes and basic text to make it accessible to a wide variety of readers. The story is fun, and the art work is bright and adds details and humor to the story. For the adults and more advanced children reading the story, I found the real accounting and news articles referred to at the end of the book to be funny and well worth taking the time to explore. I also liked the facts about other clever octopi, and the different types of octopi in the world, to be very interesting and entertaining. I already knew they were smart and could squeeze into tight places, making them masters of escape, it was neat to see this collection of stories and information dealt with with humor and respect for the creatures.

I was excited about this book. I love true stories made into picture books for young readers. I was not a fan of the rhyming scheme though.it was too distracting and forced.i feel like the story would have been better not rhyming. I did really liked the facts at the end of the book which can help young readers understand the octopus.. Great illustrations too!
