This was a very enjoyable story, in the main it was told from the point of view of the chaperone, Amy Corbett. It also illustrates how dependent impoverished women were on their employer’s goodwill. Amy, at first, out of her depth in Society, finds a friend in an older chaperone, Mrs Bower. Amy develops an attraction to one of Lady Rowena’s beaus, Lord Pierson. Pierson is attempting to reform in order to gain Rowen’s hand in marriage. Amy has to put her own feelings aside to achieve the best outcome for Rowena. The author has written in an understanding way as Amy thinks through her dilemma and her thoughtful advice to Pierson. This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I shall look out for her name in the future. I received this copy from Netgalley and have voluntarily and honestly reviewed it.
