This is a no-nonsense toolkit that outlines what is needed to fight the most dangerous societal issues that plague the globe today.

This book begins by defining serious crimes and the guiding principles behind writing this book. Then it delves right into the steps necessary for a task force to combat the serious crimes they face.

The first section is how to conduct an assessment, followed by the second section, which is reforming the legal framework in the conflict-affected area. The third section is how to deal with institutional reforms, the fourth is implementing strategies for addressing serious crimes, and finally, the fifth is dealing with international engagement.

The book is not just a how-to manual. It describes how mistakes were made and the lessons learned from those mistakes. It brings in past scenarios and examples from other conflicts from around the globe to explain why certain steps should be taken and what can happen when shortcuts are made.

However, this is not a one-stop shop. The book only outlines what should be done. It does not give step-by-step instructions, nor could it. Every conflict, every region, is different. It does, however, have an extensive resources list that can help any task force in taking the next steps.

On a personal note, it also gives a peace of mind to know that serious, seemingly hopeless issues do have steps that can happen to mitigate it happening again. And with each crime, more lessons are learned and more effective measures are put in place.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an advanced copy to read. All opinions are my own.
