Harper is the perfect mom, she makes everything from scratch and owned her own business. When her husband leaves her for a younger woman she is struggling financially to provide for her teenage daughter.
Stacey is the perfect scientist who never wanted to be a mother but a baby is coming regardless of her wanting to be a mom or not. These two who are complete opposites are still sisters no matter what. Check out Sisters like us for a light fast read .

3.5 stars.

A sweet story about sisters and mothers and daughters and those messy relationships. Overall I really enjoyed this book. There were some things that drove me crazy but that most people will enjoy. I'll definitely be recommending this book to some friends in my book club.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

It was a sweet story. I love the characters and their development through the book. Very different two sisters but their fears are similar in a way. I love multiple characters telling their stories. Every one was well-written and detailed. I just wanted to read more of last part, but when I finished it, I realized I had a good time. Turkish publishers should remember Susan Mallery and translate her books more.

This is a story about relationships that women have in their life.
Heather and Stacey are sisters and are nothing alike. One that is divorced other is a scientist.... talk about two different people.
However, that being said-- I enjoyed reading about the sisters changing and supporting one another-- add in a few twists make this a good read!

3.5 stars from me

I read this book separately because I couldn’t read the others in the series before reading this one, but it wasn’t a problem.
In this book we have two sisters, we have mothers and daughters; a story about change and family.
It was a very nice story, it is easy to read and compelling. I liked the characters, most of them, especially Harper. I liked how it deals with the complexity of family relationships. Susan’s writing style is enjoyable and gripping. I really liked reading this book and now I have to read the other books in Mischief Bay Series and, of course, more books by Susan Mallery

Thank you for allowing me access to this book. I requested it when Heroes and Heartbreakers was still an active site. And for a while I didn't have a active site to post reviews.

For the most part this was a enjoyable, but not memorable read. I will admit that I do have some prejudice, or pre-conceived ideas about house husband that I should work to eliminate. That said, that plot line is not a favorite. And honestly the whole --"can't tell my mother" seemed far-fetched.

I did enjoy the other sisters story more. And a nice bridge to the previous book.

I am loving this new womans' fiction series of books by Susan Mallery, and I love this story of sisters who are facing life together even though they are in different stages of life.

Susan Mallery always does things with style and her storytelling style is absolutely fabulous. I love the way she has blended emotion with great characters and a realistic plot in this story. Such a great read and one I'd definitely recommend!

Witty with a side of sass, delightfully real and a downright fun read! Raised by an overbearing, perfection seeking mother, two sisters show their different methods of dealing with her as their lives swirl into unfamiliar territory that they're not so sure they can make it through without breaking! One tries to be the perfect daughter, while the other avoids with the best of them. Neither one is pleasing to their dear mother, so what's a gal to do? I enjoyed the drama, humor and search for happy ever afters!

Harper Szymanski tried her best to be the perfect wife and mother that life (and her mother) expected her to be, but all it left her with is a jerk of an ex-husband, a teenage daughter who can't stand to be in the same room with her anymore, and a mountain of bills that she can't afford to pay! She's thankful for the clients that keep her busy in her virtual assistant business she started to make ends meet after the divorce ... especially playboy cop Lucas who seems to always be at her house!

Dr. Stacey Bloom is as smart as they come, but it doesn't help her deal with her neurotic mother one bit. She has a husband she loves dearly, and a baby on the way very quickly, but she can't seem to find comfort in her pending motherhood. The fact of the matter is, it terrifies her ... and so does telling her mother that she's pregnant! She knows she's going to disapprove of her way of doing each and every thing ... not to mention the fact that she's going to continue to work while her husband stays home with the baby ... so she's shoving her head under the sand and pretending it's not happening!

Sisters Like Us is another outstanding book by Susan Mallery, but in this book, she explores the world of two sisters Harper and Stacey, who are polar opposites, but have a wonderful relationship; which is more than they can say about their over bearing mother Bunny. But adding in to the mix, is Harper's daughter Becca, who is struggling to deal with her parents' divorce, her father's new girlfriend, and her mother, who is working for the first time, in Becca's young life.

Now I could go on about the 3 main characters, but honestly that is just the tip of the iceberg for this book, as there is a host of characters that you cannot help but love. But even though there are lots of characters, the author has a wonder talent of not making you feel overwhelmed, or even get confused by all of the characters.

The author doesn't shy away from the tough subjects either, from teen age sex talk, remarriages, new babies, dating, drugs, rehab, and so on, the author tackles these tough situations, without bombarding you to too much information.

I found Sisters Like Us a big breath of fresh air, which is why I give it 5 stars! I also this it will be a book that I will read again and again, for many years

Susan Mallery is a wonderful story teller. Her novel about two sisters and their critical/abusive mother is a gem. The characters are realistic and their story is told with heart and humor. The only character I could not warm up to was the mother, Bunny, but I think that was by design. And while the author tried to redeem her toward the end of the story, I did not buy the change in the character. While the story did contain some romance, the men in the story took a backseat to the women.. This was more women's fiction than romance. Once particular part that I loved was the women's use of animals as confidants. Loved it!

Sisters Like Us was a very enjoyable read. I actually cared about the characters and was delighted by the believable way their lives unfolded. Mischief Bay is a very loose series but it's been fun picking up with characters from one book to another. It took me a long time to get round to reading this owing to my tottering to-be-read pile but once I started I scampered through it enthusiastically.

Harper Syzmanski is trying very hard to raise her teenage daughter Becca after a divorce by running her own business, Harper Helps, a virtual assistant company. At the same time she's trying to live up to her mother's insistence that she put her daughter first -- the way women were expected to do in the 50s and 60s -- never mind that if she does that they'd be homeless. Her sister Stacey, on the other hand, seems to have missed that gene altogether and is a medical researcher, married and pregnant and afraid that she doesn't possess the mothering gene. The two sisters are as different as night and day, yet they love each other and tolerate their overbearing mother. Other secondary characters from Mischief Bay appear, specifically Lucas, Harper's sleezy ex-husband, Stacey and Kit's nephew Ashton, and Bunny, her crazy mother. Instead of making the story more confused they add layer upon layer of reality.

Harper and Stacey are as opposite as sister's can be, and each has their own uniqueness. One, Harper is as perfect as a particular type of mother can be. She is the type of woman who decorates her house for every (and I mean every) holiday, cooks homemade everything and is always dressed well. Since her divorce she has tried to turn her crafting into a business; a virtual assistant business. She is not doing well, either with her business (she has never worked outside the home) or with her daughter. The typical entitled teen.

On the other hand, Stacey is looking for a cure for MS, she is a scientist, she is also very pregnant and has not told her mother. Stacey is also worried that she will not be able to nurture or love her child.

These two have what I considered the worst mother -a know it all throwback to a very different era when women put their husband and children first and Bunny (the Mother---that name is telling isn't it!) lets her daughters know flat out that what they've done is not good enough (Harper getting a divorce and trying to make a living) or abnormal (Stacey for working and putting family second).

The good parts of this book are that it combines narrative for both sisters and the parts were written so you have a clear understanding that each was their own person. It has an interesting love story, the mother Bunny is almost redeemed at the end and the daughter grows, matures and learns many valuable lessons.

The bad part is that I couldn't connect with either sister, and it took more than 50% of the book to stop being annoyed (and that's a mild word compared to what I really want to say) with these women and to stop wanting to smack them silly.

It's not a bad beach read as long as you don't mind being frustrated for much of the novel.

Sisters Like Us is another great story by Susan Mallery. I had no idea this was the fourth novel in this series when I requested it but I don't think you need to read the rest first to truly enjoy it. I certainly did.

The story relates the tribulations of two sisters and their families during a time when they are both going through big changes in their lives.

Harper Szymanski was brought up to become the perfect housewife. Sadly, she's now divorced and her ex-husband is dating someone younger. She's having problems with her teenage daughter who's rebellious and selfish at times. She's also struggling with her monthly bills and her job as a virtual assistant. Over the years, she has developed a clientele including Lucas, a cop who got hurt in the line of duty and who needed someone to organize his life afterward. Harper loves to do things from scratch. She's a great cook and great at her job as an assistant but her relationship with her daughter is suffering and she's not dedicating enough time to her job either. She feels overwhelmed.

Stacey Bloom is a research scientist. She's very smart and she's also very pregnant. She hasn't told her mother she's six months pregnant and the longer she waits to tell her, the harder it is. You see, Stacey has never wanted to be a mother but she loves her husband and they are at the right time in their lives to start a family. Her husband adores her and supports her. He's also going to be taking care of their baby once he's born while she goes back to work. Yet, she dreads telling her mother she's pregnant since her mother believes her to be a failure. She's nothing like Harper. Being a housewife was never her goal. But her mother, Bunny is old school and under her hypercritical eyes, neither daughter became what she wanted them to be.

Sisters Like Us had more of a women's fiction vibe than a romance. I still very much appreciate the romance in it. Lucas was great until I wanted to punch him but regardless, he was there for Harper in so many different ways. He was also there for Harper's daughter. Stacey's husband was adorable and just perfect for her. I love the humor in this novel. So many great quotes. Some of them had me laughing out loud. I love seeing the growth of the female characters too. Harper's daughter learned to think about more than herself and started helping Harper more. I never warmed up to Bunny. She was mean to her daughters and her archaic thoughts rubbed me the wrong way.

I want to go back and read the rest of the books in this series. I know I'll enjoy them.

"OMG, you want to have sex with me."
Yes, there were complications, yes, this could be a huge mistake, but honestly, who cared? She grabbed his hand and started for her bedroom, only to come to a stop and spin toward him.
"I don't have condoms."
"I do."
"I haven't washed the sheets in three days."
"Shocking but I'll recover."
She bit her lower lip. "I'm not sure I remember how."
One corner of his mouth turned up. "I'm happy to reacquaint you with everything you need to know."

Cliffhanger: No

4/5 Fangs

The fourth in a series that doesn't really seem connected, so you can start here and read all over the place! I have read two out of the four of this series and have loved both, I need to read book two and three and of course continue on in this series!

In this book there are two sisters and they are completely polar opposites raised by the same woman, but couldn't have become different adults. One is divorced, was a stay at home before the divorce and is now raising a daughter and strives each day to be the perfect mom with the perfect house, while her sister is a scientist and has great fear about her abilities to become a mother and is thankful for a husband who will stay at home with their upcoming child.

I love books about sisters. It reminds me of me and my sister. We are polar opposites and now in our adulthood we can see the positives in each other's choices and celebrate each other. I loved that from the beginning these sisters respected each other's choices and loved each other for who they were.

If you tend to avoid Susan Mallery because she is primarily a romance writer, I would urge you to try these books. There wasn't any sexy times in this book and they are about relationships, so don't be wary book is for those who like a good book with good characters and a good story. And this series is full of stand alones which I love!

After reading this book, I am more motivated to get caught up in this series and to look out for the ones coming in the future.
