Iqbal needs and idea for his science fair project. After watching is mother cook over a stove inside and inhale its fumes, he decides to create a solar stove and use the funds from winning to buy a propane stove for monsoon months. The end notes include information on how to create your own solar stove.
An inspiring story about how a school assignment changes a family’s life.

It's raining? Take the umbrella.
It's sunny? Take the umbrella, too!
Nonsense? Not for Iqbal and his sister Sadia; it makes perfect sense, because they have to solve a problem concerning mom and little sister; and they have to win their district's science fair.

Accompanied by beautiful, full-page illustrations, "Iqbal and His Ingenious Idea" is an interesting and clever story. It shows the living conditions in many parts of the world, and how even simple inventions can make a great difference. And it let understand that a vigilant mind and an attentive brain can improve the conditions of the people and the environment.
Read this story with your children. And let them invent something!

I always love Kids Can Press books, including this one.
Iqbal and His Ingenious Idea has beautiful illustration that I really admire. Besides, the story makes my heart warm. About Iqbal who participates in science fair in order to win a gas stove for her mother, because her mother becomes sick due to smoke. In the back of the book. there's a DIY to make stove that we can try inspired by Iqbal's project.
However, there is one question that lingers in my mind... Why does Iqbal and his family use the gas stove instead of using the stove he created? The stove he created doesn't produce smoke, rite? Hmmm
