I requested this book because at the time it was a story that really interested me but then life got in the way and it sat unread. Going through older NG titles and trying to determine my next read I came across this one again and I think I have to admit the my interest in this has passed and I'm not sure if I'll ever read it at this point.

This is not a book to read about the story. This is a book about people, and the dynamics of people's relationships and themes explored.

Jesobel is a very relatable character for every teenager out there. What however made me like this book more that just simply DNFing is her personality. She's so brilliant and thoughtful for such a young age.

Books with girls, nay characters, who are unapologetically themselves are the best books there are. Teens need people to look up to, and they are absolutely likely to find that with the characters of Rebel with a Cupcake.

I really liked Jess, the main character in this book, but the rest of the story wasn't very original. I did enjoy it though and it was a quick read!

It's a nice look into body-positivity, but there wasn't much going on plot-wise that held my interest.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review, which has not altered my opinion of this book.

I feel I should start this off by saying that I believe that this book is aimed at a younger age than my own. Like, entering high school age rather than 5 years out of college age. This is a book I would not read for the plot, that one is as predictable as a Disney Channel original movie. That being said, it's cute and a fun read at points, but at no point was I overwhelmed with enjoyment during this short book.

However, the characters and their development did save the story.  Jess' sass and her general outlook on life are inspiring and I think very relevant in today's world. She makes excellent points about putting yourself out online, dealing with fat shaming, mean girl issues, and general high school issues.

Overall, this book was cute and I recommend it for the younger crowd, such as girls going into 8th grade and early high school. It was good, but I probably won't be reading it again. 3 out of 5 for me.

Cute book. Loved reading a book about a women comfortable in her body as a plus size young women. And cover some important topics such as body positivity and positive self-image.

This was a fun read, but felt like empty calories. I loved the message it was trying to send, but felt that the message could have been conveyed in a better way. At times, the book included strange dialogue that could do with editing. Overall, this is a great book for people who want a good plot and won't get too hung up on the flawed details.

I really really liked this story. I loved that the main character was overweight but comfortable in her own skin.I voluntarily reviewed an Reader Copy of this book which I received through Netgalley.

You have to love a book where the main character is comfortable with her body even on the heavier side. When life gets tough for this daughter of a model and washed up rock star, she eats cupcakes and she doesn't care what others think......but she really does. So while there is some positive message there's also some body shaming and there is a lot of British sayings that I needed to look up to get the context of what she was saying. Not sure that any of my teen readers would connect with this book.

Sweet, cute & satisfying. Had fun sinking my teeth into this, so to speak. Worth your time if you're into exploring appearance issues.

A few lines from the books I thought were funny/striking:

I can live with my legs when they’re covered up. But au naturel? I think not.

“So, you think I’ll be happier if there is less of me?” “That’s not what I said.” But it’s what you meant, I think.

“Your obsession with food is just as weird as my interest in magic.” “Except food is real and essential for life,” I say.

All this emotion and all anyone has said is hi. Who says romance is dead? He’s just a boy. But he is lovely. I could just lie down at his feet and tell him I love him.

In this enlightened age, girls are still not allowed to ask guys out. You have to wait for them to make a move. Otherwise you’re “pushy.” Or “easy.” Either way, it’s not cool.

“Is he unbelievably out of my league?” I ask. They look long and hard at each other. Ouch. These are good friends.

Who comes over to a girl and then says nothing? It’s not as if my very beauty has struck him dumb.

Life is generally easier if you conform. But it is also duller.

I have to believe that it’s possible to find a boy who wants to go out with you and will treat you like a human being, not an accessory.

"I haven’t felt much like the girl who eats life lately,” I confess, “but I do have cake, which I am always happy to share.”

For all my good grades, I’ve been a fool twice. I think I’m so clever and that I’m a good judge of character, but I just keep making one bad decision after another.

P.S. That essay Jess wrote was just... well, let's say the icing on top.

Food is not the enemy. People are. If you don’t like how someone looks, maybe keep it to yourself. There’s an idea. How someone else looks is nothing to do with you at all. Nothing. Nada.

Jesobel was fun and refreshing and believable. I found myself cheering for her from the very beginning.

I like the story of Jesobel Jones and her possitive body image persona. I felt like the plot was a little slow for me but overall an a ok story.

I liked the characters but I didn't really enjoy the overall story very much. I do like the overall moral of story and the promotion of positive body image though.

Tell em' Jesobel!

I really like Jesobel’s character and her reflections. Though I thought the story and plot were a bit thin.

A fun, funny YA novel about a plus size girl who embraces her identity an positivity! Readers who liked Dumplin will also love this!

I couldn’t get past the beginning. The language used bothered me so much I had to stop reading. The language of talking no about food and eating just really turned me off and I have no intention of reading any more of this book.

I really enjoyed this and the characters were amazing. They developed into such in depth people and they learnt so much. Such an amazing book

I got a copy of this for a fair and honest review. I went into this thinking that I knew what the books was about. I think because I was like her so much going to school. I was bullied and teased, but I knew I just has to take it one day at a time. I did not have the self-confidence that she did. Even as an adult I got a lot out of this book and the message that it is doing its best to send. My favorite character was the grandmother. She gives good advice and knows just what one needs to hear. It is another book that I wish that I had not read so fast. It is kind of sad that it is over. I did enjoy the ending. Grab a copy for yourself and be prepared to do a little laughing and getting upset. It is worth the emotional roller coaster you will go on.

Rebel with a cupcake by Anna Mainwaring is the story of Jesobel Jones an overweight teenager, who has never been concerned with her weight, until she becomes interested in a boy. I found this book to be OK. I did not love it, but I like the idea of positive body images.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
