Finally picked up on reading this year after a super long hiatus, and wow I’m so glad to have read this.
I originally thought that this was going to be another insta-love story, as mentioned by some reviewers, but it goes deeper than that! Although the characters’ actions drive me crazy sometimes, it was an excellent depiction of teenagers navigating through their lives. I loved the representation of bipolar disorder too.
The second half of the book was really gripping, I ended up finishing it within a few hours - can’t believe it made me teared up.
Overall an enjoyable read, thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have always been drawn to books about music, so it’s no wonder that I enjoyed Someday, Somewhere so much. This book is absolutely heartbreaking, but beautiful at the same time. The main characters are realistic and easy to root for, and the dual perspectives add so much emotion to the story. I would definitely recommend this one, especially to those with an interest in music.
Books about music always have drawn me to them.
Dominique and Ben are both interesting characters, struggling with their own problems and, while their backgrounds are different, they are both wanting something more.
Plot wise it was expected. I think that after a while reading books, all plots get easier to see from the get go - but it doesn't mean I didn't appreciate it.
Overall it was an easy read that I enjoyed very much.
Character-driven stories are my absolute jam, and I found just what I needed in this one. It's not a light and easy story to read, but it's ultimately meaningful.
I'm glad I picked this up.
The writing in this was so boring and choppy. I had to mark it as did not finish. Makes me really sad because it sounded really good and the cover is gorgeous.
I didn't really enjoy this even though I wanted to a lot. The characters and story just didn't do anything for me.
Unfortunately, I just never could get into it. I tried 3 times but the story just never caught me. Maybe for other readers.
I was disappointed while reading this book as I had a hard time getting into it. I don't know what it is but I just couldn't connect.
Once I started reading this book, I didn't expect to like it this much.
Insta-love is a very hard concept for me to deal with, especially when there feels like there is no foundation. If anything, the characters are built on lies.
But somehow, Lindsay Champion was able to save the day with her beautiful writing. The pace was slow, and it did not match the types of books I normally read, but this book came out of left field and left me utterly astounded. I recommend the beautiful writing for all, and most importantly, I would recommend giving a book like this a chance even when it feels wrong.
I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.
I had a really hard time getting into this book. I am sad to say that I was unable to finish it. The story just could not keep my interest.
The cover is beautiful and so was the description so I assumed I would love this book. And....I WAS RIGHT! It was a quick read with alternating POVs, which I loved. It was also about mental illness and music which I believe both were written in a good way. Excellent book and a solid 4 to 4.5 stars for me
I found myself cringing at some of the description of mental illness and also how Dom just didn't get it for so fast into it. Still kept me guessing though.
This book was so cute and emotional. I loved the hope and dreams of Dominique and I was intrigued by the mental situations that Ben faced. I think that the whole story was a realistic outlook on life, due to the fact that not all things can be as successful as you hoped they would. I also have such an appreciation for novels that include art and music because those are usually the most pushed aside topics to teach in schools today and very rarely do we ever see people express theirselves as individuals. To write a novel with two completely different lives and conjoining them in a roller coaster of a journey of art and music and dreams and love, really makes me appreciate the world we could be if everyone just tried.
Fantastic read, well written with a great plot and characters. An engrossing read, I couldn't put it down. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Netgalley.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Someday, Somewhere was a magical musical debut. The cover alone is gorgeous.
I really enjoyed this contemporary novel even though It had a few annoying nuances like insta love BUT it worked in this story. I really didn’t like all the lying and stalking going on or the obsessiveness but it worked in this story. There was romance, heartbreak and even suspense in this heartsoaring novel.
The author expertly wove a tale of first love in the mystical backdrop of NYC.
Someday, Somewhere, a debut novel, by Lindsay Champion is the story of Ben and Dom. This book contains a lot of tropes and things most people, including me, don't like in a contemporary story. Examples being; lying, insta-love and building a relationship based off of almost nothing. But somehow this author makes it work and I found myself really into the story.
Dom is a junior at a school in Jersey. Her class goes on a trip to Carnegie Hall in New York City and there, she sees this stunning guy that she instantly falls for. Love at first sight? Yes. Love at first string? Also, yes. Dom falls for this guy because of his looks and his amazing ability to play the violin. Now that Dom has seen her soulmate, she has to figure out how to meet him and see where things could go. But that will be kind of hard when it costs nearly $20 to go back and forth to NYC every day and her and her mother can barely make ends meet.
Ben has a very obsessive personality which tends to become unhealthy. Normally his obsession only gravitates towards his violin playing but when he meets Dom, he can't stop thinking about her. The book is told from both characters POV's and while I really loved both characters I think I enjoyed Ben's side a little bit more. I always end up liking the troubled character the best. I also really liked how the book felt like a piece of Ben's work. Everything was paced well then it started speeding up the closer we got to the finish.
The authors writing in this book just draws you in. Even if you hate insta-love or dislike books about music, this book will win you over. But this book is about so much more than those things. There is a pretty prominent mental illness subject. There is a lot of lying. This book pretty much is meant, to me at least, to teach a lesson. Each person will form their own opinion and get their own lesson from this book but what this book has taught me is be careful who you fall in love with.
In the end, this was such a great book and had a lot of depth that I wasn't expecting. I was expecting this cutesy romance story but it had so much more to it. Lindsay Champion has one hell of a debut novel on her hands.
Overall, I gave the book 4.5/5 stars.
I got a copy of this for a fair and honest review. I love the changing POVs between Dom and Ben. There is a lot to say about the musical set up of this book. It is unique and beautiful debut of Lindsey Champion. I love the look that I got at NYC. It is a real coming of age story and it a magical love story as well. A true blending of two voices.
The beginning had me in love with this book, just generally everything about it was perfect for the entire first half of the book and then I got confused which left me feeling disconnected from the story.
I think overall that if you are a musical person and you like contemporaries, you are likely to enjoy this book. If you aren't really into music. then maybe this is not for you, as this book centres a lot around music.
The cute meeting was actual perfection. I had heart eyes, it was so good!! I immediately saw the chemistry between the two before they even met, so that was extremely well done.
I loved the two perspective style of writing, the interchanging between the two of them was spot on!
And all of the music! I loved the music being incorporated into all different aspects of the story, and I was listening to the playlists while I was reading and I JUST LOVED THE MUSIC IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL!
And this book also deals with mental illness, which is definitely an important topic, so that was very well done.
The pacing!! I loved how they separated the book into the three movements and the pacing matched, that just made me so SO SO HAPPY and it was perfect!!
However, I did feel that the book was a bit unresolved, and I guess this was on purpose, but it kind of just left me feeling discontent rather than curious.
Overall though, an enjoyable read, and I loved the music incorporated into the storyline!
Not a fan, beautiful writing but kind of boring beginning. You can feel the characters as your friends and get lost with their story.
