Jeanne has been through hell since the day her mother was diagnosed with cancer and lost her a couple months later, but the big secret she cant tell anyone has made her spiral out of control until she met this boy that just starred at her non stop. He was patient but when she snapped she finally had to do something or tell someone. One day she found out that this same secret happened to another person and she was determined to end it. Her journey was sad but it also had hope that she could get past it after she opened up.

NetGalley, as well as Kay & Unruly Books, provided me with an electronic copy of Take Me Far Away. I voluntarily chose to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

Jeanne Rowe used to be a popular high school cheerleader with a promising future. It only took one night to take it all away. Will one person be able to reach Jeanne, despite the efforts of others?

Take Me Far Away is a book of grief, anger, violence, and innocence lost. Unfortunately, the novel reminded me too much of Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, as well as other YA books that deal with this delicate subject matter. The writing style is a bit choppy, which made it difficult to connect with the main character, as a result. Because all of Jeanne's background is told as reflections, or snippets of the past, the reader is never quite given a clear picture as to who the young woman was before that fateful night. In a genre full of similar books, Take Me Far Away just does not stand out.

This book is a disturbing story about a rape victim and the aftermath she has to deal with. The subject matter is tackled very sensitively and the book is shocking in places and very emotional and upsetting in others. However, a book well worth reading about a subject that can affect a victim for the rest of their lives, and should be explored.

Jeanne is a popular girl, after all she’s a cheerleader. She finds out that her mother has cancer and will die in a few months,, however mom dies sooner than expected. On the night of her mom’s funeral, she goes for a walk that she will never forget. Why? Because she is raped. Afterwards all she wants to do is forget. After the rape, she isn’t the same. Her friends think it’s because her mother died. She think she has forgotten until the rapist comes into her life. What will she do?

A story that is written with youn adults in mind but I think it is one that could be read by adults too. It made sense to me that I could see not wanting to remember that awful event/experience. It’s a book I won’t forget reading anytime soon.

While this book was very good, it wasn't an easy book. It piled on the emotions and sometimes i struggled with the sadness of the story and what the character went through. The sensitive issues were handled well but could still be hard for some readers. I think the author wrote a beautiful book about a hard topic.

This engaging novel boasts well developed characters, genuine emotions, and insightful commentary on how rape culture fails women, along with a meaningful teenage relationship.

I really struggled with this book. I wanted to like it because of the tough subject matter, but I just didn't. It felt like the protag got too close to the love interest too fast, and trusted him even though he was way creepy. Honestly, this didn't read as genuine to me. I won't be reviewing this on Goodreads because there are very few reviews and I don't want this one to bring down the overall rating.

Jeanne Rowe was the party girl, she was a cheerleader and loved life. This was all before her mum was diagnosed with cancer and given just a few short months to live. After her mums death she becomes insular and doesn’t get any enjoyment from her old life. Her friends slowly give up on her except one, who stands by her regardless and tries to encourage Jeanne to do things like she used to do. What no one else sees is that something else even more tragic happened to Jeanne, on the night of her mum’s funeral she was raped.

Plagued by anxiety, Jeanne struggles to keep her life together, even with psychiatrists and pills to try and keep her sane. There is one person in Jeanne’s life who always watches her, Ryan and he sees more than what Jeanne is willing to share and desperately wants to make things better for her, but Ryan has his own secrets.

Take Me Far Away is a touching story of how rape can ruin a persons life and how it spills over into their every being and how helpless those around can be if they don’t understand what the problem is.

Wow, this book touched on some really serious issues that are still really prevalent in society right now. This story focuses on a teenage girl who after suffering through the loss of her mother, has an absolutely horrific act done to her. We then see the heartbreaking after effects that she has to live through. The author did a really good job making you feel the emotions of the character as she went through them. She also did an excellent job of showing how victim shaming is a real thing and a very strong reason why a lot of woman don’t report rapes, as well as how hard it is to actually get convictions in these types of situations. It was gripping, emotional and intriguing book and I really really enjoyed reading it.

Take me Far Away is a story about a high school girl who loses her mother to cancer and on the same night she faces something no one should ever have to face. It's a book about how rape and how she deals with everything that has happened in her life including having to interact with the person who raped her. It is about two young adults understanding each other because of what they have been trough in their lives and how they help each other regardless of what anyone else thinks.
Kudos to you Kemdi Ik for writing a story and putting the emotion into it that people who have suffered this horrible crime feel and letting them know they are not alone.

This book is about a rape victim and the aftermath she has to deal with. Very sensitive topic and extremely emotional so be prepared beforehand because it is a lot to handle. Much focus on rape culture and how the victims take the blame which is so so sad. I felt sorry for Jeanne. It is a really good read though! Lots of emotion.
