This is another book that I put on my daughter's ereader for her to read. Although this is the fourth book in the series, she hadn't read any of the others.
The book features two main characters, Earl and Mooch, as they get up to some fun times in Spring.

This was personally reminiscent of a very Calvin and Hobbes vibe. I loved reading CH as a kid, then I fed on a steady diet of Allie Brosh. I have been all over the place when it comes to the range of graphic novels. This one falls somewhere in the middle for me. I liked reading it, but I might forget having read it.
It was cute and wholesome, as many of Andrews McMeel books are.

'The Mutts Spring Diaries' by Patrick McDonnell is the 4th book in this fun series.

Earl and Mooch are happy that it's Spring. The cartoons in this collection are all about Spring (for the most part). There are gags about the birds returning, Earl's obsession with fetching when Mooch finds a ball, and the chained up dog in the yard in the neighborhood. Birds singing in the trees gets a series, until Mooch shows up to try his hand at it.

The cartoons are well drawn, and the characters are pretty likeable. This is a good collection for anyone who likes dogs and cats, and would be nice read for younger cartoon fans.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

I love reading this comic strip in the newspaper. I don't know which of the characters I find more adorable - Earl or Mooch. This book is a collection of Earl and Mooch enjoying the shmells and sights of spring. Yesh!!! They are loving it, and so will the readers in the target audience age group!
Sweet messages of spring, friendship, and kindness are scattered like flowers throughout the book; and bonuses too - on how you can watch their feathered friends out in nature; and cool bird facts, and more...
Thank you to NetGalley for an digital RC of this book

I always enjoy a cute lil' animal story, and this suits the bill. The art is nice, and the story is enjoyable.

Mutts created by Patrick McDonnell is one of those comic strips that pleases people of all ages, one which parents can read even to the youngest child without worrying about the content.

In The Mutts Spring Diaries, McDonnell has gathered various strips appropriate for Springtime and put them in one volume. Intended for children, these colorful comics are drawn with yellow lined paper in the background, reminding the reader of a school's legal tablet.

We have two best friends who are often found together - Earl, a sweet little dog, and Mooch, a cat with a speech impediment. Together they regularly visit the butcher and the local school as well as spend time outdoors or, on rainy days, stare out the window. Sometimes the adorable little birds nesting in a nearby tree make an appearance and even the threatening guard dog (despite his chain) gets some loving from a sweet little girl who visits him on her way home from school. Mooch is featured affectionately playing with a little pink sock and also makes an apoearance as the see it all, know it all - The Mighty Shphinx, demonstrating wisdom with wit:

You will never schmake any progress until you get over all your phobias
I was afraid you'd say that

The humor tends to be the groaning type:

I'm a snapping turtle.
I didn't even know turtles had fingers!

Veni vidi Oinki - Pig Latin

(When talking to a chicken): Pardon the fowl language.

Cute as a button, what's not to love. Four stars and a thank you to Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The puns are funny and the animals are adorable. What more could you possibly need.

Little Pink Sock!
Mutts is for anyone and everyone, animal lover or not. The simple but heart touching strips are sometimes reminiscent of Waterson's panels, the ones that made you think about something hard without being alienated.
A must read for any fan of the daily strip, animal adoption, fans of Bucky or Snoopy....young and old. A book for anyone and a smile for them at the end

This is a 3 star book for me, but, a 4 star book according to my 7 year old daughter. Since this version was intended for kids, we went with her rating.

If you are an adult fan of Mutts, this isn't the collection for you unless you are an absolute diehard who must have every single one. This one is definitely setup for younger kids without the subtle laughs adults are accustomed too.

It is cute and I love the layout for kids. My daughter liked it enough where she sat and read 73 pages of it in one sitting. That's pretty good for her. She needed a couple explanations of what was going on, but, not too much as these are definitely selected for kids. If you are familiar with Mutts, then you know there are going to be strips about Earth Day, animal rescue and other related topics. My daughter was happy to see that as she is excitedly counting down to when she gets to adopt her own cat next month.

I would venture that the target audience is a sensitive child between the ages of around 5-10 years old.

I did receive a Netgalley ebook to review but feel that it did not influence my opinion.

Mutts has become a comic classic that warms the heart. Not only does it tickle the funny bones, it also helps shed a spotlight on a number of animal causes. You can't fault the kindness and charm in this comic series.

I really enjoy these, volumes of comic strips all put together into a nice neat package. This series of strips is Mutts and their springtime adventures. I love that Earl and Mooch are such good friends and their personalities are what make these comics so much fun and funny.

This collection has dogs, cats, and a lot of birds. They celebrate egg-coloring and bunnies and welcome home all the birds and listen to their music.

Even if you aren't familiar with Mutts and the comic strip, these are still really cute and the collection would be a great coffee table book or great for anyone who enjoys Mutts, or classic newspaper comics. I was happy to have read these and now I am wishing for much warmer weather it is about 20 degrees F here in Vermont right now. I would love to welcome the birds home, but I have a few more months.

Patrick McDonnell’s adorable comic strip collection The Mutts Spring Diaries is a delightful and heartwarming read for all ages.

What a lovely, funny and cute book! I absolutely loved seeing Mooch, Earl and all their friends as Spring finally arrives. There are lots of flowers to shmell, birds and bears to greet, new bird songs to hear and, of course, many adventures to be had!

The puns are just delightful and nicely done. I really like that the humour is sweet and gentle while also being perfectly appropriate for all ages. The art is clean and simple yet interesting and adorable. There are also many comic strips like the shelter stories and the poor dog who is chained outside all day which are really heartfelt and poignant, and they may even make the hardest heart shed a tear or two.

I think this book would be perfect for both children and adults because it’s easy to read and meaningful. Even if you’ve never read any of the Mutts comics before, you will still be able to understand everything here quite easily. I highly recommend this book because it’ll definitely put a smile on your face!

A disclaimer: I was previously NOT aware that this is part of a collection of books, nor was I familiar with THE MUTTS characters in advance.

That being said, the characters were cute, as were all of the story lines about the birds coming back with their newly written songs, the Easter bunny, etc. I would definitely buy the series for some of the kids in my life.

This is an adorable book of springtime-themed comic strips from the popular Mutts comic. It is appropriate for children, and made me chuckle quite a bit. I recommend it for a quick, light read for fans of cute animal comics (whether or not you know the Mutts comic). I really appreciate the focus on adopting shelter animals and treating them kindly!

This installment of the Mutts collection is just as wonderful as the previous ones. It will be enjoyed Of dog lovers of any age. The reminders to be kind to animals and to adopt had me misty-eyed. Come spring the birdhouse project in the back will be fun to try! Highly recommended!

I  recieved a free digital copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

I loved how this collection is displayed on lined paper. It gives the comics an added appeal.

Mutt and Earl are the cutest friends ever. Yesh I do love this collection of comics. We follow along with Mutt and Earl as they eagerly anticipate springtime. We get to see all their friends
My favorite bit was when one of the songbirds sang old school! 😂

The reason I love Mutts so much is that Patrick McDonnell does with his comics what I would do if I had artistic talent. His love for all animals screams from these sweet and funny pages. The jokes are never cruel, they're always gentle and while you may not cackle, you will definitely smile.

The Mutts talk to their animals friends in their language, dream of Africa, and attempt to turn into butterflies. So much sweetness crammed into these volumes, I don't know how anyone couldn't fall in love with this shmotley crew.

I had braced myself for the Shelter Stories, but I was not prepared for the chained up guard dog being shown kindness by the little girl. That one punched me hard in the heart strings.

Did not catch my fancy but I'm sure it's for a very specific audience.

I adore Mutts! Every day, I look forward to Patrick McDonnell's sweet and funny take on life. I don't know why this is listed as a middle grade book; to me, it is for all ages. Smile, laugh and share the good feelings in this anthology. Highly recommended. Thanks Net Galley!
