David Bell did not disappoint with his latest novel, Somebody’s Daughter. It is a fast-paced psychological thriller that had me captivated from the first page to the last.

Angela and Michael Frazier have just finished dinner when they hear a knock at the door. From that dusky evening till morning light, the reader is taken on a long, fitful, twisting and turning night, trying to find nine year old Felicity, who went missing from Michael’s exe, Erica’s car that morning.

With multiple suspects, fabulous characters and mind bending clues, Bell had me guessing till almost the very end. Bravo!

Married couple Angela and Michael are having dinner when there is a knock on the door. Michael is surprised by his ex wives claiming his daughter he didn’t know he had had been kidnapped.
Within 12 hours the books unwinds into the search for missing 9 year old Felicity.
Switching back in forth between Michaels account, his wife’s account, and the police.
So cool how it unfolds in real time and how all the pieces start to fit together. And how to biggest surprise of all is what did happen to Felicity! Well done. I couldn’t put it down. I read in one sitting!

This was my first David Bell book and it won’t be my last. He is such a good storyteller. This is such a complex psychological thriller with so many twists, there was no way my theories could hold up. I really enjoyed it. The characters were well developed and each of their stories well thought, out but man it was hard to trust or like anyone. That’s when you know the writer did his job and kept the mystery alive.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC of this book.

I am a fan of David Bell so I was not disappointed by this book at all. I'm glad that I read it before summer so that I recommend it to everyone to read on the beach. I thought it was a very good example of misdirection and untrustworthy characters because I wasn't sure who to hate or who to root for and that makes it a great read for me. I highly recommend this book if you like to play detective while snuggled up on your couch.

It's time for their tenth anniversary and the last person he expected on his porch was his ex. She says someone has stolen his child. He didn't even know he had one. And the more he learns, the less he's sure about what's true...

Berkley and Net Galley shared this book with me for review (thank you). It will be published July 10th.

He's almost positive it's not his. The dates don't match but he left the birth control to her. Now he and his current wife are trying for one desperately and the ex says his has been kidnapped.

Everyone knows pieces of the total but no one knows the whole story...

As you follow the trail of clues and try to paste the truth together, you find out why those ahead of you haven't done it yet. It's not a sweet tale, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat!

I really enjoyed reading David Bell's novel in 2015 and I was eager to see what 2018 brought with the novelist's first hardcover published. Full of twist and turns, the novel does not disappoint as one night unfolds for over 400 pages. Isn't that crazy?!

The story revolves around that of a young girl's disappearance. It appears that Michael and Angela Frazier are living their perfect life with their perfect house and their squeaky-clean routines until the ex-wife shows up asking for help about her missing daughter. At that point everything Angela thought she knew about Michael goes out the window because this is the first time Angela hears about the existence of the daughter Felicity. We kind of sort of don't know if Michael knew about Felicity either.

'Who is the bad guy here?' is the obvious thread, and quite surpisingly it could have been the sister, the mom, the ex-wife, the music teacher and the ex-wife's ex-boyfriend. Throw in a babysitter or a neighbor and we've got ourselves a twisted tangle of a hot mess. I loved the fast paced writing and how it truly kept me guessing. The part played by the lead detective was also well written-- so many angles and this is how we get that one crazy night spilling into over 400 pages. Oh and there's a dog, too. Every aspect you expect from a thriller is here for our enjoyment - five stars all the way to the bank.

(Review will post on my blog later -- June 21)
If you like Ruth Ware, Gillian Flynn, Mary Kubica then add David Bell to your want-to-read list.

The absolute best part is that David Bell has several other titles for me to investigate. Sad though that my local library owns just one. Get with the program, Rockwall!

This is a fast-paced thriller which takes place within a 24-hour period. There are many twists and turns within the plot.

This started out pretty well and ended interestingly enough however, the middle just seemed to drag for me. I thought there were just too many needless details and time consuming words. The plot was simple but good.

Thank you netgalley, the publicist and David Bell.
This is my first book and surely not my last from this author.
What a page turner where you can’t wait to find out what happens next.
Surprise ending.

First book by David Bell, but not my last! I try to read multiple books at a time, but this was hard to switch from, because it's written in a way that keeps you entwined on each page. Loved the way it's written, the detailed characters, and twists and turns and suspense.
Will highly recommend and rate and review in Chapter Chatter Pub!

I am a huge David Bell fan! I recommend his books to anyone and everyone I can. I am not sure if I set myself up with too high of expectations for this one. I was so excited to get my hands on a copy that I could not resist to just dive right in! As typical Bell fashion, it did keep my interest - that is one thing I love about his writing - his ability to leave you hanging at the end of each chapter, so there is never a good stopping point. You must read in one or very few sittings!

Beautifully written, entertaining, a little quirky and brilliant. Before I say anything else, I want my readers and friends to know that there is not one thing about this book that is anything but great.

The characters have the same sorts of flaws you will find in every family, maybe your own. Too many secrets. Too many misunderstandings. David Bell brings them all to life. Some I loved, some I didn’t. Perfect.

The coolest thing about this story? The characters found out what was happening about the same time I did. I admit that I thought I had the whole thing figured out by about half way through the story. I was wrong, so I looked for different answers, different clues. I came up with alternate theories...several of them. One of them was actually right, but I can’t give myself much credit...the characters found out on the same page where I had my “aha!” moment. Drat. I think I’m pretty good at figuring things out. Much credit to the author.

This is a book, a story, that I believe most people will enjoy. Where is the missing girl? What happened and why? And the biggest question of all...who is her father? Grab a copy today, find out the answers and...

Enjoy!

Somebody's Daughter is a fast-paced mystery/thriller that plays out in one crazy night. We've all had those nights right? Okay, maybe not just like this, but a night where so many things happen and there are so many twists and turns that the day before seems like a lifetime ago?

The book opens on Michael and Angela, a fairly typical suburban couple. They've just finished dinner together, wine glasses still half-full on the table, and a promise hanging in the air of retreating to the bedroom when clean-up is complete.... when the doorbell rings. And it's Michael's ex-wife. And she tells him that their 10-year-old daughter, who he doesn't know about, has gone missing.

Wow! I can't even imagine being Angela in that moment.

Bell spins a interesting story, that takes through a life-changing childhood tragedy in Michael's past, his tumultuous relationship with his first wife, Erica and the jealousy and unrealized dreams that can hide beneath even the healthiest of relationships.

I really did enjoy this book. Although it does all unfold in one night, Bell includes enough flashbacks and jumps around a bit in time to keep the story from being too linear. The one character that was a bit of a problem for me was Erica's ex-boyfriend. I didn't find him to be completely believable, however part of that is that I don't feel his true motivations were revealed. He was a bit unhinged and I'm not sure why anyone would've acted that way in the same situation.

That said, if you enjoy a good mystery, check this one out. It will release July 10, although to me it seems less like a beach read, and more like a book to read on a balmy summer evening with a good glass of red.

Special thanks to Berkeley Publishing Group and Netgalley for an advanced e-galley in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 because the writing was strong.

I enjoyed Somebody's Daughter by David Bell to the point where I didn't want to stop reading, once I got hooked into the story - which was very early on! A 9-year-old girl, Felicity, is missing and her mother, Erica shows up on her now happily remarried ex-husband Michael's front doorstep one night with not only this news - but the news that she is HIS daughter! His current wife, Angela is as stunned as he is. Michael takes off into the night to help Erica try to find her daughter, because even if she's not his, she is somebody's daughter.

This book held my attention and was full of twists and turns, written through different viewpoints in alternating chapters. Each chapter (some quite short) ended with a cliffhanger, but they weren't all as thrilling as I would have hoped since they were in general immediately resolved by the next character. I was able to guess the "who" in the whodunit and the basic reasoning, but there was a lot of buildup to get to that point - my initial instincts were not correct, though, which is a good thing - I don't like being able to figure things out right off the bat!

While the book overall had plenty of twists, there weren't any huge shockers, and the resolution proceeded pretty much how I figured it would, which was fine but felt a little less "thrilling" than I had hoped for. I was a little thrown that one of the main characters played a huge part in the first half of the book, then became largely irrelevant and almost an afterthought towards the end, which I found odd.

Overall a pretty good read, fast paced but a tad bit on the long side. I'd definitely recommend for a beach read, plane trip, etc where you can sit and read the entire book in one sitting, keeping the momentum up!

Thank you to the author & publisher who provided a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Berkley Pub #Partner for the free copy in exchange of an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I am a HUGE fan of David Bell, he is my number one recommended author, so when I received an ARC of his newest book I was freaking ecstatic.

Somebody's Daughter was fast paced, entrancing, and high addictive. I was racing through the pages, following everyone involved in this book, trying to figure out who to Felicity and why? What was the motive? Who was really the father? (Maury Povich flashbacks. haha) Why did Erica seem so shady? Is Felicity safe? This book made me ask a lot of questions.

This was a twisty turny ride. Once I thought I had it figured out, A curveball was thrown my way, and I had to rethink things. With David Bell Novels, things are never simple. The stories are always complex. He is a master manipulator of plots, and I have never been disappointed with any of his books. I can only look forward to his next book, and this one isn't even released yet!

I'm a huge fan of David Bell's. His books keep you riveted till the end. This one is no exception. Hooked me right from the start. The book begins with a knock at the door of Michael's home. When he opens the door he's surprised to see his ex-wife standing there. They haven't seen or spoken in 10 years but that's not the biggest surprise. Erica's daughter, and supposedly Michael's, is missing. So Michael sets off with Erica to help find her, leaving behind his wife Angela. The story takes place over the course of one evening. With alternating chapters between Michael, Angela, and a cop named Griffin. It's fast paced and will keep you reading. There was one storyline that was brought up , and I thought added an extra layer. But, at the end it was forgotten about! And they mentioned it a few times so I was really wondering if it was true or not. Maybe at that point it didn't make a difference but I thought it did. So that bothered me. The rest of the story was enjoyable and definitely keeps Bell in my 'must read' list.

Felicity is a talented singer with troubled eyes. Being nine years old and not knowing her father; is overshadowed by her vanishing without a trace. We have a current wife Angela, an ex-wife Erica and their man Michael who puts his heart into HELPING find this girl who may be his daughter!! Race to locate the child is complicated with the question of her Father's identity. Team of police detectives race to locate anything that will lead to the discovery of Felicity "Safe and Sound". Many avenues are pursued to sort out current and past events. Good plot and characters. I had this one figured out early in the pages read; but still raced to get to the conclusion. "A copy of this book was provided by Berkley Publishing Group via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion." THIS IS NOT MY FIRST BELL BOOK and of course WILL NOT BE MY LAST!

Whenever I see a major editing glitch, it throws me out of the story line. I realize this is only partly the authors fault. When Gail has her phone taken away from her, she can't get a call on it when it is in someone else's possession.

Michael and Angela have a good life except for desperately having a child. When Michael's ex-wife , Erica shows up at their door saying their daughter is missing, Michael is stunned as this is the first he heard of his having a child. He agrees to go with her and help question the man she thinks took her. Angela is left at home wondering what else she doesn't know which is compounded when the police come to question her. The story follows Michael's and Angela's separate paths as they search for the truth.

There are way too many characters in this book, the ending was just odd. There was no reason at all to think of the person who actually took her. Easily 50 pages could have been edited out in the middle, there were a lot of pages but they didn't drive the story.

I think with tighter editing this book could be better as the plot was good.

Somebody's Daughter is the latest thriller from David Bell. In Somebody's Daughter Mr Bell tells us the story in various voices. As the chapters end and start on another part of the story you hate to leave those characters, wanting more of that part of the action....every time. Somebody's Daughter is an edge of your seat page turner with the reader anxious to find out what exactly happened. I was given an early copy to review.
