This is a great new addition to this series. The idea of a writer 's retreat is a good one that provides lots of details for the story without distracting from everything else. The set-up seems to work for Cat by this point though Shauna did place a wrench in things this time. The personal connection adds a nice layer and since Cat's Uncle is the chief neither girl is ever really a suspect like they would be normally. The characters are well developed by this point and the new twists just made them more so. The end was a nice surprise that I did not completely see coming. If you are a fan of cozy mysteries youngster to give this book a shot. I really enjoyed so it gets 4/5 stars.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars, I really liked it.

Book 3 in the series.

I love this series. The description of Cat's home always makes me wants to attend her retreats, and the Colorado location makes this Colorado gal feel even more at home.

Cat's got the routine down for her monthly writer's retreats, with a lot of help from her partner, Shauna. But this time around Shauna's distracted by her boyfriend/fiance. Cat's worried about how she's going to run the retreats if Shauna gets married and isn't around to help anymore. But suddenly, getting married isn't what will ruin their partnership, it's murder, because Shauna is suspect #1.

Each book just gets better in this series. And we finally see an end to mystery with in the mystery of Cat's ex-husband, so I really liked that. I could do a little less with the Mobster as a potential love interest, heading toward love triangle territory, but we're not there yet, and I hope it stays that way.

I am now impatiently waiting for book 4, haha.

When I start a new book by Lynn Cahoon I know I'll be getting a great mystery and a visit with characters who feel like friends. Of Murder and Men didn't let me down. It took me a little longer to warm up to Cat than it did to Jill from Cahoon's Treasure Cove series but I'm now just as invested. I loved catching up with Cat, Shauna, Seth, and Uncle Pete. It took a little while for the mystery to really get going and because it didn't take place in the house it never really felt like it was the center of the book. However, the mystery of just what happened to Cat's ex-husband is front and center and is just as intriguing. I loved getting each little tidbit of information as Cat dug more and more into her ex-husband's papers. The other mystery was good and while Kevin is a character I won't miss I was definitely turning pages to find out just what happened that night at the barn. I really had no idea just how it was going to wrap up until the last few pages and it definitely kept me reading. This is a light cozy series with characters you can't help but love. I love all the writer-y and bookish talk from Cat's writer retreat and as usual the mystery was well done and entertaining. This is probably a series that is best started at the beginning - or at least read the book right before this one - for some context information. If you're a cozy mystery fan Lynn Cahoon's books are a must!

I really enjoyed book 3 in the Cat Latimer series. It can be read as a stand alone but you'll miss out on a lot of character background. Cat's supplementing her author income by hosting writers' retreats with her BFF Shauna. Handyman Seth still loves his high school girlfriend, Cat. When Shauna's secret fiance Kevin Shield is found murdered, Cat adds finding his killer to her investigation of the death of her ex-husband Michael to her list. Seeing a writer's path to published author through the retreat participants and guest speakers was very interesting. Adding Sasha from Tourist Trap series here was fun for those who already love Sasha (which I do). The ending wrapped up story plot lines extremely well. Thank you Net Galley.

This is the third book in the Cat Latimer series. It was a fantastic read with more twist and turns than most books. The characters are intriguing and the mystery is so well written. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great mystery

Cahoon's Writers Retreat mysteries are great, mixing murder with writing. When Cat's business partner finds her boyfriend missing in the middle of winter, the stage is set for a compelling mystery. In between shepherding her writers and making time for her own novels, Cat must clear her friend from suspicion and find out who is up to no good. A fun, fast read.

Even though I am a reader and not a writer, I think that it would be fun to attend a writers' retreat at the home of Cat Latimer in Aspen Hills, Colorado. In addition to all the yummy sounding food served by her business partner, Shauna, there are great sounding restaurants in the area. The attendees get to hear great lectures. visit a college library to research and write, stay in a lovely home with other writers and enjoy the camaraderie of the group. With all that said, be prepared to be close to someone involved or touched by a murder. Cat is a former college professor at the local college, Covington College, but is now a published author spending her time writing between and during retreats. Cat and her ex-husband, Michael, a Economics professor at Covington, were happily married until she walked in on him and a co-ed in a compromising position in his office. After the divorce, she moved to California until Michael died of a heart attack and left their home to her in his will, where she hosts the retreats. This is the third retreat that Cat and Shauna have hosted and there is always a murder to solve. This time Shauna's fiancé Kevin is found dead in the barn on his ranch and some think that maybe Shauna is responsible since it seems that poison is in the stew that she prepared for him. Cat's Uncle Pete is the local police chief and has faith in Shauna's innocence. He warns Cat to stay out of the investigation and let him do his job. Cat's high school sweetheart, Seth, is helping her out with handyman jobs around the house as well as transporting guests to and from the airport in Denver. In addition to Kevin's death, Cat is still trying to figure what kind of activity Michael was involved in before his death. It appears that Covington College and the area may have ties to the Mob. Did Michael somehow get involved in a bad situation before his death? Shirley Mann is a former detective from Alaska and is a guest of the retreat. She and Pete connected before her trip down and she wants to help Cat investigate what was going on in Michael's life.
There are lots of twists and turns and many different suspects in the murder of Kevin and I kept changing my mind about the responsible party to the end. Cat does get some new information and answers about Michael and what was happening with him before his death. I always enjoy Lynn Cahoon's books and read all of the Tourist Trap series in addition to this series.. I just slipped right into the story and it flowed smoothly-almost like a continuation from the last one that I read. Her characters are well developed, real and likable. The setting is a lovely Victorian home in a quaint town during the winter months in this story.

This is a great book; this is the third book in the Cat Latimer Mystery Series written by Lynn Cahoon. This book can be read as a standalone, but once you read it you will defiantly want to go back and catch up with the other book in this series. I have never so badly wanted to eat a cookie while reading a book. This lovely cozy murder mystery, Of Murder and Men by Lynn Cahoon, has so many scenes with such delicious descriptions of the food being eaten that a reader could gain weight just from reading it. Cat, a successful author who leads a writers’ retreat at her newly inherited Victorian mansion, learns more about her recently deceased ex-husband’s death and at the same time assists her Uncle, the chief of police, in solving the murder of her best friend’s fiancé. What more could you ask for in a story, two unsolved crimes for the price of one? I thought it was a pleasant change from the standard that Cat doesn’t solve the crime all by herself. The involvement of all the different characters and their interactions with Cat and with others made for interesting subplots. If you want a fun, quick read that will have your mouth watering while you solve the mystery this it the book for you.

I enjoyed this book very much. It takes place in Aspen Hills, Colorado. Cat,, Shauna, and Seth are running a writer’s retreat called Warm Springs Resort. A great story for aspiring authors. Gives many good writing tips and a look into the publishing industry. There is never a dull moment in the story. There are two, not one, murders to solve; and if Cat doesn’t come up with a solution, she may be next. Thanks to Net GAlley for the opportunity to review this book.

Of Murder and Men is the third installment in the Cat Latimer Mystery series set in the small town of Aspen Hills, Colorado. With repairs and renovations almost complete on the old Victorian she'd inherited from her deceased ex husband Michael, Cat is looking forward to hosting another monthly writer's retreat, this one hopefully murder free.

Cat's a little nervous that her best friend and business partner Shauna Clodagh is spending so much time with her boyfriend Kevin Shield at his ranch. One thing that makes the writer's retreats so special is Shauna's fantastic cooking, and if she decides to move in with Kevin, Cat doesn't even want to think about finding a replacement to help run the B&B. When Kevin pops the question, Shauna is thrilled and to celebrate she makes Kevin his favorite dish of Irish Stew.

Sadly, Kevin suddenly goes missing during the night and the women call the police chief who happens to be Cat's Uncle Pete. Unfortunately for Shauna, Kevin is found dead in his horse barn and the autopsy points to poison. Between farm hands and the other women in Kevin's life, Cat has her hands full of suspects but she is determined to find Kevin's killer and clear her friend's name with the help of Uncle Pete, her boyfriend Seth Howard and retreat guest Shirley Mann, a retired Alaskan detective turned true crime writer.

A fast paced storyline with a great cast of returning characters. The secondary mystery surrounding Cat's ex husband Michael's death continues with more clues and information surfacing as Cat pages through his many notebooks and college papers. Cat discovers that the mob connection to Covington College plays an even bigger role in Michael's death than she originally thought and is left wondering exactly how the mysterious Dante Cornelio fits into the puzzle.

This was an interesting cozy mystery which solves an old and recent murder. Granted, the "old" wasn't that long ago, but it was good to have so much explained. The writers retreat group is a bonus, not a focus of the story. They play supporting roles. Some amusing bits along the way help break the tension surrounding a murder, along with the mourning. Pleasant characters, along with the evil suspects, keep one caring about their loves and loss.

This book truly affected me. I not only want to attend more writers group activities, including a retreat, after reading this series but after this book I am tempted to open my house to authors as well. I love the camaraderie of the characters and the inspiration. The wonderful discussion of other aspects of the publishing business might be a bit scary or intimidating, but also fascinating.

Never before have I wanted to attach a theme song to a book I have read. For some reason this book screams Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart. Cat's venture of offering a monthly writers'retreat is like "... living in a powder keg and giving off sparks."
Both Cat and Shauna have had shadows over their love lives. Both fell for men who could not be totally honest with them and had secrets that would eventually rock the women's worlds.
I also enjoyed a cameo crossover connection to another of Lynn's great series.

While the story pulled me along without letting go and all was wrapped up pleasantly enough at the end, there are still enough possibilities left for adventure and surprises in a number of future books in this series.

Lynn Cahoon has set the stage for murder at her writer's retreat. I really enjoyed the insights Cat shared with the writers who come to the retreat and the reader. I thought the book read well as a sdtanf alone. However I think reading the previous books might have provided me with s little more insight into the characters. Without giving away any spoilers, I was a little surprised and taken aback by actions her ex-husband Michael had taken.

Of Murder and Men by Lynn Cahoon is the third in her Cat Latimer Mystery series and the best one yet.

Ms. Cahoon as written a cozy mystery that is both complex and deeply emotional for both Cat and Shauna. The writers retreat introduces us to a charming new crew of hopeful new authors, including Shirley, a retired Alaska detective who has captured Uncle Pete's attention. The murder of Shauna's boyfriend/fiance' sends Cat into Nancy Drew mode to help Uncle Pete investigate who wanted Kevin dead. There is also the continuing story of Michael's past and who wanted him dead and why. There were so many suspects, twists and layers to each of the murders that I just had to keep turning the pages. A smoothly paced plot and well developed characters that have continued to grow throughout the series makes this a favorite of mine. Ms. Cahoon's descriptive writing of Aspen Hills makes me wish I could visit Cat and Shauna.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

Of Murder and Men is the third book in Lynn Cahoon’s Cat Latimer Mystery series. Cat is hosting another Writer's Retreat at her home in Aspen Hills, Colorado, and everything is going fine except her partner, Shauna keeps disappearing to be with her fiancee. Then one morning Shauna arrives extremely late for her cooking duties, only to reveal that he has disappeared. Later, Uncle Pete the sheriff finds him dead in the barn. In the meantime, Cat is dealing with cleaning out her ex-husband's study and reviewing his papers, still ruminating on the true cause of his death.

I liked the two separate mysteries, although the answer to Michael's seemed a bit anti-climatic. The reveal of Kevin's was completely the opposite though!

My one complaint is that having never read a book from this series before, I hated Shauna straight out of the gate. I understand that Cat would be annoyed with her. But the way it was presented immediately in the first chapter, it was hard for me to like Shauna later. Also, I never did understand the animosity between Shauna and Sean. Both people vvying for Cat's attention? But Sean was very ready to believe she killed him...

Overall, great characters and an interesting plot. Good read.

This is the third Cat Latimer mystery, and in my opinion, they get better and better. Cat runs writer retreats with her friend Shauna from her home in Colorado. Cat's ex-husband Michael died mysteriously and left the house to her. Cat has to sort out his papers, and she wants to solve the mystery of his death.
The January retreat starts and the writers arrive. Shauna is distracted by her fiance Kevin, who's a jerk. When Kevin is found murdered, Cat investigates. She gets some help from her latest crew of writers, one of whom is a retired detective.

The characters, the plot and the setting of this book were outstanding. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is another really great book in this series. We get some more answers and information about Michael which I found very satisfying. The new characters were great, the main mystery was great. I highly recommend this series to someone looking for a new cozy mystery series.
